Projector Central Review:

http://www.projectorcentral.com/benq...tor-review.htm

Below are the videos I've found on YouTube so far. The last video is one that I created just today and it gives a basic overview of my theater but the second half is the projector in action. As if cell phone video of a projector is a viable source to see quality. Maybe it will be of use to someone.

I know the Cinema mode has been 'calibrated' from BenQ and has been said to be pretty accurate, but has anyone seen any 'other' calibrated settings?

Wow. Looks like my video was removed for having a scene from Mission Impossible playing. I'll try to take the scene out and repost with another video of some sort that won't violate terms of use.

Any ideas?

I bipassed my receiver to eliminate that as a variable, by connecting the projector straight to the PS3. Still getting the same error message. Anyone have any luck getting the PS3 to play 3D Blu Ray discs? Any ideas? The troubleshooting I have found say to go to video settings and set it to "automatic". I do that, then they say it prompts you to enter the size of the screen used, mine doesn't do that, and goes to "finish" or "audio settings". Help?

I do not have a PS3, but I can try a 3D Bluray on my Samsung Bluray player when I get to the house and post results.

Turns out it was a bad HDMI cable and my receiver can't pass a 3D signal (Onkyo 1007). I got a new hdmi cable to work with the PS3 directly to the projector, then Not when going through the Onkyo. Looks like I'm in the market for a new receiver! Going 4K and Dolby Atmos to future proof a little, any recommendations??

Sorry I didn't get around to testing mine out for you.

I have the Denon AVR-X4100 which supports Dolby Atmos but won't support the next DTS that is coming up. But for what mine does, I absolutely love it.

I have a question about this projector. I currently have the BenQ HT1075 that I have had replaced once because of a temperature sensor issue and the replacement is doing the same thing. Benq support is offering to give me an HT3050 as a replacement, which they say is a huge upgrade from the 1075 but it doesnt have horizontal keystone correction. I currently use my 1075 on a side table beside the couch to project onto a screen. I do have to correct for the projector being off center so I find it odd that a current projector does not have the ability to correct for off center viewing, especially when their less expensive model does. Does anyone have any experience with this?

According to the specs on the BenQ website the HT3050 has both horizontal and vertical keystone while the HT2050 has only vertical keystone.

In the videos and supported by the specs it appears the projector does have manual horizontal keystone correction. BenQ support is very responsive so I think I will go with this model and see how it compares.

Official BenQ HT3050 Owner/Settings Thread

I had to swap my HT1075 twice for the exact same reason. Initially BenQ wanted to swap mine for an HT2050 which does NOT have horizontal keystone. The HT3050 does and I went back and forth with them for a week before they agreed to give me the 3050 instead of the 2050. So just make sure they are sending you the 3050 which DOES have the horizontal keystone.

I just ordered a refurbished ht3050 from BenQ. Does anyone have their 3050 ceiling mounted and if so what ceiling mount are you using. I have never bought a refurb before. Hoping it works out well.

I bought the NPL-003 mount from mountdirect.com along with the matching extension pole. It's basically a universal mount that comes with a lot of parts for different projectors and you pick the ones you need to get it mounted. It took a while for me to figure out the best way to mount it, but once it was mounted I have to say I'm happy with it. It moves in all of the directions that the highly recommended chief mount does. It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but it's great for the relatively low cost.

Hey! I'm new here.

Just have one simple question: I accidentially reset my Rec.709-Mode (Menu -> Reset Current Picture Mode) right after unpacking my new HT3050. Now all values under Color Mangement (Primary Colors, Hue, Saturation, Gain) are set to 200 which seem to be the standard values across all picture modes. Is this normal? Is my unit still Rec.709-calibrated? Or have I deleted the calibrated settings? If so, is there any way to do a factory reset?

Many thanks in advance & sorry for the Pidgin English,

HDMI settings on this PJ default to Auto. Does anyone use on video and if so, do u find it crushes blacks? More pop but lose detail and hard to get right. Surprised no one mentions this. Otherwise great pics!

Hi all

Just wondered if someone could check their firmware version? I've just bought a refurbished unit, manufacture date is April 2016 but firmware version is 1.00 (I returned another one which was 1.02) - anyone know the difference between firmwares?

Thanks

I'm a newbie to projectors but have researched and decided to purchase a new BenQ HT3050. I plan on using it as a full-time viewer for watching DirecTV, Bluray/Bluray3d, and playing Xbox. I'm not concerned about shortening the bulb life versus enjoying the projector. Any advice would be appreciated.

Damn, I did this too. Every value is now 200. If anybody could give me the cinema rec 709 values (hue, saturation, gain), i would really appreciate it.

The rec709 mode is factory calibrated so resetting it should have no effect on the picture (unless you made your own adjustments).

You should never copy other people's picture setting from the internet. Because of manufacturing variances there is no way to tell if settings that worked on one unit will work for another. In fact, I've seen wild discrepancies between posted adjustments for the same LCD/plasma/projector.

Best thing to do is buy yourself a tune up disc like Disney wow or DVe or download the free avs709 disc here on this forum and run through it. Ideally your pre-cal mode should not require any adjustments or require very minor adjustments. On my plasma which has a THX mode running through the tune up disc required no adjustments. On my HT2050 which does not have a pre-cal mode I had to make very minor adjustments to the picture in it's most accurate 'cinema' mode to get the projector dialed in.

What to do if you find yourself stuck with no hope of rescue:
Consider yourself lucky that life has been good to you so far. Alternatively, if life hasn't been good to you so far, which given your present circumstances seems to be more likely, consider yourself lucky that it won't be troubling you much longer...

The true test will be if everyone has the same settings (200 for everything) out of the box. I should be able to confirm shortly...

True, true. But i still want the factory default settings. I mostly want to know if i imagined the differences, i could have sworn they werent at value 200 out of the box and im noticing differences in skin tones and green saturation. Its possible its entirely placebo.

Unfortunately it looks like the settings are projector-specific: it came with a factory calibration report citing the projector's serial number. But they're all close to 200 so you're probably not far off.

Attached are my out-the-box settings in any case!

Thanks kreeturez. Also i'd be interested to know how much variance there is between the units, so other owners could post their factory settings too.

I find it odd that you can reset the factory calibration just like that, it was i miss click from my part and i was going to select "no" when it asked me if i was sure but accidentally highlighted the wrong one .

Anyway the difference is marginal at best and for all i know its closer to rec 709 now in my space. Not a big deal but still weird. Also im not 100% sure they werent already at those values. I think they werent, i went through them couple times when i checked the settings.

Just finished ceiling-mounting and aligning.

I recall reading that input lag was quite high on the HT3050/W2000 (whereas it's much lower on the HT2050/W1110) but this was meant to be fixed in firmware. My unit is manufactured in April with firmware 1.03

Here're some basic results - these are taken in Game mode, with out-the-box settings, using HDMI 1. I seemed to get higher figures when using the MHL-capable port (HDMI 2)... But HDMI 1 seems to compare favorably to my HT2050/W1110, so gaming is definitely a go.

I just hard reset the projector to factory defaults from the service menu and now my cinema rec. 709 mode has same values as kreeturez's unit. Hard reset also resets color wheel delay so i wouldnt recommend doing it, or at least take a note what it is before resetting. Although mine was actually a slighly off out of the box, i had very slight "pink face" problem some described in ht2050 thread which is caused by the incorrect cw delay.

Doing the reset current picture mode once again resulted me in having everything set to 200 value.

Excellent. I wonder if the service menu is where that factory calibration is done, perhaps?

I've been doing quite a bit of gaming on this unit and have been pretty happy with its performance: I've re-run some lag testing today without my AV Receiver (turns out it adds a bit of lag even on its low-latency 'Fast Direct' mode) and I'm now consistently reading under 20ms - similar to the HT2050, and a solid result for gaming.

Otherwise, there's not tons of noticeable difference between this and the HT2050. The speakers on this model are way better (probably because there're two of them) - but almost everyone has surround sound. It's a bit heavier. My little ones like the gold trim. It's actually got an internal 3rd HDMI input (which supports MHL as well) for concealing a wireless receiver - along with a powered USB port - under the lamp cover - but hardly anyone uses wireless. (A Roku stick or Chromecast would fit in there, though).

In terms of picture quality, the two-point calibration out the box is spot on; and as a result I can leave Brightness and Contrast on 50, rather than the small bump-down in contrast and bump-up in brightness I required on my HT2050.

Since increasing the latter slightly hurts black levels (by turning them a touch grey), I'm actually getting slightly better calibrated black-level performance on this model as a result.

Color accuracy is good, but it was nearly as good on the HT2050. I'd need to run them side-by-side to tell the difference.

The factory calibration isn't perfect, though: I had to slightly correct for color clipping for both YUV (Red and Blue) and RGB (just Green) inputs. That should've been done at the factory.

I'm certainly satisfied, but for most people, unless there's a warranty difference (3 years vs 1, like in my case), I'd recommend the HT2050 for its slightly cheaper price tag and mostly similar performance.
