Those with the 5040ub (or if anyone with the 6040ub).
which BD player is confirmed to have full 4K HDR?
There are way too many pages to scroll to try and find the answer, trying my luck....
I have the XBOX ONE S but i understand HDR doesnt work with the 5040UB. Which BD Player is confirmed to be working?
is it ONLY the Philips BDP7501, or is there a cheapest option that is confirmed to be working? (my sincere apologies for the i am sure already asked question).

I cannot seem to find any answer to this.

I have a BC300 RF emiiter (optoma) and the ZF300 glasses.

Does this projector have a VESA 3D port that I can hook this emitter up to and use my current glasses (I have 10 pairs of very expensive RF glasses) or do I HAVE to use the Epson RF glasses with this projector?

hi, there is no 3D VESA port. The ZF300 glasses are proprietary RF to the Optoma transmitter. If keeping these glasses is important, you may want to consider some of the alternative projectors that do have the VESA port (JVC RS400 and BenQ W8000 are 2 possible options).

quick question. sitting here playing with the various enhancement settings. when using 4k enhancement, the pj makes a noticeable noise. i'm running in cinema mode, default settings. it isn't coming from an increase in fan speed, the pitch is higher. source is 1080p.

normal?

tia.

A little bit of noise is normal. A loud noise is not normal. When engaging E-shift the projector usually make a higher pitched noise, but it should not be loud. One poster had one that was loud and he exchanged it and said the replacement did not make any noise. Either that poster can't hear the high pitched noise or he got a projector that does not make noise, which would be the exception, since it should make a little bit of noise.

hey mike. thanks for the info.

yeah, this was loud. "hear it clearly from 15 feet away" loud. i'll be fine with a higher pitched noise at a "reasonable" loudness, my brain will tune it out anyway.

the fan is in eco-mode sure is quiet though. i basically can't even hear it.

fedex guy is delivering replacement today, so i will report back later.

Just did not want everyone thinking it should be completely silent and all of a sudden Epson has a flood of returned projectors. Things like that have a tendency to drive costs up, which would mean, Epson's future replacement for the 5040/6040 would be at a higher price.

yeah, understood.

it is here and it is MUCH better. before, i could hear it over the fan when set medium mode. now, medium mode drowns it out entirely. i'd expect to hear something in eco mode, as noted, the fan is really quiet. no complaints here, the bit of noise it makes filters out as background.

now to level, align, etc. again.

The Phillips is BY FAR the "least expensive" UHD player that currently implements standardized output that the 5040ub accepts. The Panasonic has also been shown to work well but it is TWICE the price of the Phillips. If you are going to be "bleeding edge", you often have to PAY dearly for it so $299 for the Phillips is pretty cheap for what it is

Curious...any clue as to what could be causing the noise in some units, but not others?

I can easily watch my 5040 on 100" 1.1 gain white elite screen during the daytime with lots of ambient sunlight (but not direct sunlight given the house orientation) as there are no shades in the room it is located in.

Get the projector from some place that it is easy to return if you're not happy with it. Chances are you won't be returning it.

My other projectors are BenQ 1085ST, Panasonic AE8000 and Epson 1080UB and the 5040UB is the brightest in that room and I now use the others elsewhere.

Sounds like the 5040 combines the blacks of the 5030 with the brightness of the 3500? Wow... having seen the 5030 before that's quite an accomplishment. Not that it has the best blacks ever, but they are good and the brightness of the 3500 is amazing.

Getting my projector (6040ub) tomorrow !!!
Purchased the Phillips BD UHD player last night...

A quick question for those who have the Phillips if they can please confirm...
Are you guys going through a receiver or directly from BD Player into projector?

Purchased the phillips to get HDR 4k since the xbox one S is known to NOT work.
But i will have it running through Yamaha 2060BL and i was wondering if the Yamaha is supported to be working with the Epson and have 4K HDR. i really hope the Yamaha will not kill the HDR etc...

Trying to get the best working setup ! driving me nuts and i dont even have the projector yet lol .

Actually the pricing was for the 5030. Mistake. Looking for 6040 now. It will need front and back panels too. I expect $250

Great.
But will it cost $250 and warranty?

The costs will be MORE than $250 as that price was for the smaller, older 5030 parts and it was only for 2 of the FOUR parts needed so it could be as much as $500. What is this about "and warranty"? Are asking if changing out the casing will void the warranty?

Likely. The cost might also be less. Should still be interesting to learn if it's an option though.

Can anyone confirm whether the 5040 can talk to a PS4 via CEC over HDMI? I'm considering a PS4 pro as a media streamer and game device, but want to control it via Harmony. Since PS4 has no IR, I'm thinking CEC may be the ticket.

When I had PS3, I bought a IR adapter (usb) from Radio shack (something like $10 or so). It worked great.
I don't know if such an adapter is available (and will work for PS3).
I have it lying around somewhere after I traded by PS3.
I can give it (away) to you. You can take a shot if that works.

Edit: This is that adapter. Just for reference.

Hey thanks for the offer. I do actually have a very similar one on my PS3, but I don't think it will work with the PlayStation 4. I will give it a try though when my PS4 arrives.

Sony finally released a bluetooth remote a while back, but for IR it looks like this new PDP unit might be the ticket. Unlike the few other IR solutions that have trickled out, this one will cover the full range of PS4 operations, including power ON/OFF, with a Harmony remote. Licensed by Sony, ships in December.

I think the question would be why are some not making noise or is the sound high pitched enough that some can't hear it.

I've been investigating the 'whine' noise from my TW7300 (That's the 4040 in the US). So far I've discovered that it doesn't do it on a 1080i/50 source (Sky satellite) at all. On a 1080p/60 source (Amazon Fire 4K box) it does it all the time. It doesn't depend on whether 4K enhancement is on or any other setting that I can determine, just whether it is a 50 or 60Hz input.

I just made some measurements. Sky is the orangey line, Amazon Fire is the green line. All measurements in Eco mode, calibrated UMIK-1 mic pointing towards the rear of the inverted ceiling-mounted PJ.

This is 40 to 300 Hz, unfiltered and unsmoothed. The main feature is the sharp peak at 179.8 Hz on the Amazon line. That's exactly 3x the input frame rate of 59.94 Hz, the peak is about +10dB.
Everything else is fairly random in comparison. There's nothing particularly noticeable at other low multiples of the refresh rate.

This is 700-1000 Hz, unfiltered and unsmoothed. The big peak is on the Amazon line at 899.1 Hz, which is exactly 15x the input frame rate of 59.94 Hz. This is about 25 dB higher than with Sky in that area. The rest is fairly random fan noise.

Reproducing the 179.8 and 899.1 Hz tones with a tone generator gives the same 'whine' that I'm hearing from the PJ.

So, that's the 'whine'. Now I need to find out whether this noise with 60Hz inputs is a fault or not.

IMHO I don't think the sound is that high pitched. I have hearing damage from having made my living in nightclubs when I was younger and cannot hear higher pitches. I usually watch shows with CC turned on, nevertheless the noise from my unit was so annoying that I stopped using the 4k Enhancement feature unless I was watching a 4k film.

I think this may be true.

I can't hear it and my wife can't hear it but my son says he can hear it.

Even with the audio turned off, I can't hear anything.

Very interesting.
