VPLHW65ES vs pt-ae8000

Hey guys,

I currently have a Panasonic PT-AE8000. I love how bright and vibrant the picture is. I think it puts out 2400 lumens?

That said, the black level is pretty bad in dark scenes and I want more. Something vibrant still but better blacks.

I can get the Sony VPLHW65ES at under $3k shipped so am thinking about it. But, I see lumens are around 1800.

Will it not be as "punchy" as my Pansonic? Can anyone comment on the differences?

I have an itch to upgrade but not sure what to get. I would love a 4K projector but don't want t to spend a fortune. Sony 65ES seems to be a great 1080p projector but will have enough punch? Any other recommendations? Thanks.

I would wait until next month and compare it to the Epson 5040 and the Epson 4040. They are 23-2500 Lumens plus offer pixel shifting. Psuedo-4k.
I just got a Sony 55es for under 2k. Im happy with that price but honestly I wouldnt pay anywhere near 3k for the Sony 65. To me its just not worth that much money. Especially now that Epson is going to come in with the 5040. It will make Sony have to launch something with more bells and whistles to be competitive.
For what its worth go see the Sony 65es at Star Power in South lake. They have that and a JVC on display. Paul is my salesguy there and has been very helpful and competitive in regards to pricing.

Retailers currently advertising the HW65ES for under $3,000 have spotty customer satisfaction ratings to say the least. BBB and other consumer protection sites are your friends.

It was an open box on Amazon.

Amazon Warehouse is giving 20% off with code WDEARLY20 for Prime members.

I got it for $2500 plus tax shipped. I figured at that price I might as well try it since I have 30 days to return.

Thanks guys! Hope it works out. Dave, I know all about those shady dealers, most from the Northeast! I always avoid and wait for deals through slickdeals most of the time, through reliable companies.
