Hey folks. Super new to the forum and this thread. I have a 5040UB connected to a receiver connected to my PC. Anyone got any settings for showing through the PC? I have a 2080Ti. I was wondering about the best Nvidia control panel settings as well as maybe MPC-HC settings. Been researching like mad. I dont have a BD player or anything yet. It's hard to search such a large thread

Here is screen shots from computer Gui and also Bluetooth Gui..

Just confirming can xbox one x, pc, or ps4 pro with the hdfury linker do 4k25 4:2:2 12 bit hdr or is 4k60 hdr 4:2:0 8 bit the only option for 4khdr xbox one x gaming? I think a lot of 4k adventure games on ps4 or native 4k on pc with current gen graphics card gets around 30 fps anyways. Furthermore, most games are 4:2:0 so 4:2:0 10 bit hdr or 4:2:2 12 bit hdr looks better than 4:4:4 8bit hdr which sometimes show banding.

Source for some of this info: http://www.acousticfrontiers.com/uhd-101-v2/

Baseline info:
• The HDMI chipset within the Epson has a bandwidth limitation of 10 Gbps
• There are limitations to the signal that the Epson can accept due to this chipset
• 4k Blu-rays are encoded as 4k24 / 4:2:0 / 8-bit Rec709 (non HDR) or 10-bit Rec2020 (HDR10) neither of which are supported by the HDMI 2.0 specification
• Some form of signal conversion must occur in order for any device using HDMI 2.0 to accept a 4K Blu-ray signal
• The signal transmitted by the device must fall within the Epson’s 10Gbs HDMI chipset limitation for it to be displayed on the projector

Samsung K8500 4K Blu-ray Player & Xbox One S
• Both convert Blu-rays to 4k24 / 4:4:4 / 8-bit Rec709 which Epson can support
• HDR movies with Rec2020 color are reduced to Rec709, so HDR is stripped
• The resulting image for HDR movies generally appears too dark on the Epson
Phillips, Panasonic, Oppo (hopefully)
• Each convert the signal to 4k24 / 4:4:4 / 8-bit Rec 709 which the Epson supports
• HDR movies with Rec 2020 color are converted to 4k24 / 4:2:2 / 12-bit Rec2020 which the Epson supports
• The resulting image generally appears appropriate other than the Epson not having enough lumens to display HDR as intended
Fury & Oppo (hopefully)
• Both send an Epson compatible signal, but have the ability to strip HDR, while leaving the expanded Rec2020 color intact for those who feel the Epson is too dark for HDR
Roku Ultra (4K)
• Sends 4k24 / 4:4:4 / 8-bit Rec709 which is supported by Epson
• HDR movies with Rec2020 color are reduced to Rec709, so HDR is stripped (despite the screen showing 8-bit HDR BT2020, HDR BT2020 requires at least 10-bit color – is Rec2020 color really being preserved here? )
Amazon Fire Stick
• HDR signal is downgraded to 4k / Rec709
YouTube
• YouTube 4k videos are natively up to 4k60 / 4:2:0 / 8-bit
• If your player can send that native signal, the Epson can handle it
• Players that send the signal properly include: ????
Netflix
• Netflix’s 4k videos are natively ?????
• If your player can send that native signal, the Epson can handle it
• Players that send the signal properly include: ????
Gaming (PCs, 4k games on PS4 Pro & Xbox Scorpio)
• The Epson’s HDMI chipset (10 GBPS limitation) will only accept 4k60 at 4:2:0 / 8-bit color
• It is unknown whether these gaming devices will send 4k signals in this format. If for example they send the signal as 4k60 / 4:4:4 / 10-bit, the signal will fail or be downgraded to 4k60 / 4:2:0 / 8-bit color
• Either way, 4:4:4 will get downgraded to 4:2:0 and/or color will be downgraded to 8-bit (non-HDR) assuming the source was HDR to begin with
Future video devices:
• High Frame Rate (HFR) 4k Blu-ray will display with nothing higher than 8-bit color on the Epson
• If a future format support 4:4:4, color can be no higher than 8-bit for it to work on the Epson
• Dolby Vision’s goal is to be 12-bit color. This should work with the Epson, assuming the player can send the signal as 4:2:2

Ordered one this morning as well, should be a great value if we are able to end up with good quality refurb units. For the price, I'm willing to deal with a few returns if it comes to that.

Haha, forgot about that post. Thanks for quoting me, but the specs on each of those content sources may be out of date now with firmware updates. The main premise is still true, though. That's why I waited for the 5050. Now I'm just waiting for Epson to get past the early adopter pricing phase.

They shipped replacement overnight and the new unit is dust blob free and seem normal. Color is uniform and no pink discolorations. Will test more.

I jumped onto the 5040ub refurb train too.

I do have an Xbox One X, which I use for gaming and netflix and 4k bluray's.

Per the chart above, the 5040UB does support [email protected] at 8bit colors, but the 5050UB will support [email protected] at 12bit colors. Is that the right interpretation? If so, how much difference is 12 bit vs 8 bit really? I don't really care about HDR.

Is the nvidia shield the only box that can do 4/4/2 10bit @ 30hz for 4k hdr ?
I've got the old fire tv gen 1 to work with 4k 4.4.2 10 bit @ 30hz 4k but no hdr.
The newer fire tv 4k you cant select 24-30hz only 50/60.

Dont remember if its 4/4/2 or 4/2/2 10 bit.

do you still have the 5040ub, hdfury link, and xbox one x or pc or ps4? I am just really confused right now and I was wondering if you can check on something for me. I thought for hdr10 to properly display, it needs 10-bit color depth. I see people in the thread say that the xbox one x outputs 4k60 at a bandwidth exceeding the 10Gbps that the 5040ub hdmi 2.0 can support. But the hdfury link can change the edcc to 4k60 8-bit 4:2:0. Can the hdfury link also change the xbox one x output to 4k24 at 4:2:2 or 4:2:0? I know the hdfury link can do the 4k24 4:2:0 hdr for movies. But can it do it for xbox one x games? Or is the xbox one x locked in 4k60 for games and can't be altered by the hdfury link?

I am considering the refurbished 5040ub since the 5050ub is too expensive. I know it is a great contrast projector so I wanted to understand more about the limited bandwidth. I might go with the newer benq ht3550 (around same price) for now even though that has input lag (but i don't really feel the input lag on games i play).

I'm really confused too... if I don't care about HDR, and just 4k and 60fps, will I still need a HDFury link to use the 5040UB with the Xbox One X?

Finally bought the Epson 5050. I'm installing in the next day or two, anyone have any display setting recommendations?
I have a Screen innovations black diamond 1.2 gain that is about 5 years old (115")
My projector is in the ceiling about 22 foot throw.
Any other installation tips would be great.

Thanks

I never owned any of that equipment. Remember, I decided to wait for the 5050. Didn't want to have to deal with all of the confusion you are facing. But if money is an issue, the 5040 refurb looks like an incredible deal. The 5050 doesn't seem to be leaps and bounds better than the 5040 despite what some say. Just call it my intuition. You might want to talk to @JewDaddy about the HDfury + gaming. He tried out a bunch of stuff. Also, I'd be hesitant to sacrifice black level by going the benq route.

When the wide color gamut filter is used on the Epson 5040ub, is there a bluish green tint? So the proper way to use it is cinema mode and then turning on the wcg filter? This happens with the benq ht3550. It does seem to make the reds look more red and blues look more blue but for some reason it gives a bluish greenish hue tint on the whole picture so I am not sure why it is accurate reference colors.

With Epson Super White engaged, my PC windows explorer window has never looked better on a projector. The white background looks truly white. Eshift looks better off on the PC desktop though IMO. Fonts are much more crisp.

The single button turns them on and also pairs them (if they are compatible). Have the projector on to 3D then push the button on the glasses.

Sorry about the obnoxious large picture. I only wanted to post the hyperlink (no picture).

Ordered a refurbished unit on Tuesday as soon as some were available and I got it today. Looks good so far with no issues as far as I can tell. Bulb life was at zero. Honestly, it looks like a brand new unit to me. Wish me luck!

Can someone confirm whether or not the chf2500 is compatible with 6040ub? Epson lists chf4500 as compatible.

A member posted that he was getting the 5040UB for $900ish? The price on their website is $1,151 and I could not find a coupon code that would work. Do the refurb prices fluctuate frequently? I would buy one right now for $900ish since I need a new bulb for my Panasonic PT-AE3000u.

I don't know where it sourced from, but there was a 15% off coupon for a short while. I have no idea how often they come around.

Thanks for your response. Link doesn't work but I've reviewed the manual previously and I saw that 6040ub isn't listed; however, I've seen posts mentioning this wad included with their purchase of the 6040ub so it's unclear

Try it with a 2160p resolution signal from the PC. You'll be amazed.

What DPI scaling are you using?

I tried 4k and everything on the desktop (fonts, native text) was so small and blurry at 100% it made me nearly immediately switch back to 1080p.

I use 250% internal scaling. No video noise, no blurring.
