Thanks for the updated. I did see an Optoma 65 last weekend uncalibrated and the PQ was OK. Hoping to go back once it's calibrated to see the difference.

How close were you to the projector? Product details say its 35db.

Yeah I noticed that in product details. More interested in input for gaming and some side by side comparisons or image examples of the picture. Also, what lumens are after being calibrated

Setting up my 2288 this weekend.
Using Panamorph UH480 anamorphic lens and 2.37 scope screen.
Current projector is Acer 9500BD, it does have an iris. If contrast is worse than the Acer, I will probably take it back.

It will be interesting to post somebody some calibrations. What hdmi you use for the vivitek? I can’t get 4K 60 with the current 25 ft that I have.

Testing the hk2288 I discover many bugs, for example the hdr auto doesn’t work all the time. You have to turn it on or off accordingly. It seems to me an unfinished product. I am gonna order the optoma uhd60 for comparison since this is my first 4k projector.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on two as I'm considering making the exact same jump.

Contrast on Vivitek HK2288 is better than Acer 9500BD, even though it doesn't have an Iris.
Overall I'm pleased with it, definitely a huge step up from the Acer, especially with 4K UHD BluRay.
Watched Transformers on the HK2288 last night from a Redbox 1080p BluRay, looked pretty amazing, almost as good as 4K.
I have until Nov. 10th to return it to FRY's, so far I'm thinking to keep it unless something better comes along. I'd say best bang for the buck for what I paid it has to be right at the top.
One thing it's a bit louder than I would like, but as soon as volume is up on movie I can't hear it.

So this happened last night.
Stopped by the local BB Magnolia store where they have a $250K (so they said) theater room. Sony 675 4K projector, Panamorph A lens, Stewart electric curved screen, McIntosh amps, etc.
I purchased at the store 4K UHD BluRay John Wick 2 and asked the guy for a demo, which he gladly obliged. So I sat there and watched the demo and was underwhelmed by the picture, it actually looked soft and not very bright. I even asked the guy to make sure he put in the 4K disc, and he said yes he did. I mean it looked OK but not what I was expecting.
When I got home I played the same movie on my HK2288 for a comparison. Honestly it did look better on my screen, much sharper, resolution looked higher, colors popped more, shadow detail looked great. HK2288 is a lot brighter than the Sony 675 also its not close.
I know that sounds crazy but that was my impression. I would not pay 10 times more for the Sony, don't know how much the Sony 675 goes for, maybe it was near end of it's bulb life or something, this is a discontinued model I think. The sales guy did say they had the new 285 and 385 models in, but they would not look as good as this one !

Bought the hk2288 yesterday here are a couple of photos. I use my theater 85% for gaming, these shots are from Xbox one at 1080p and not really calibrated I was just messing around with it so far. I bought this for the new Xbox one x coming out Tuesday which will have 4kuhd. I'll update later next week. My initial reaction is great so far though. With such limited info on this projector I figure I could give someone like me at least something to see, as I have been lurking the boards for content over the months.

Looks great, have you noticed any input lag when gaming?

I haven't noticed any input lag. That was one thing that really worried me, because my old projector only had 12ms lag. honestly I was expecting the worst because this is around 50ms but I have been trying to find the lag and its not there, all my scores online are on par with what they were!

Some images captured from my Vivitek HK2288, Oppo 203 4K UHD BluRay, Panamorph UH480 Anamorphic lens in place. Camera is Samsung Galaxy S8, movie on pause. Screen is painted PVC 2.37 ratio about 120" diagonal I think. If it looks blurry, that's in the movie. Underworld Blood Wars and John Wick 4K BluRays...Not easy to take these pics. I took dark scenes only this time mainly to show the colors and black levels . HDR is engaged. Not sure how it looks on the post, in real life looks pretty good !

The contrast is pretty darn good, acceptable for me. You can get an idea by the screen shots I posted.
Some of these scenes from Mad Max BluRay 4K UHD look almost 3D in real life, you can see in the pics.
One nice thing about the HK2288, with HDR engaged on "User" mode you have full control of all the picture adjustments, saturation, hue, contrast, brightness, etc, so you can tweak it quite a bit.
Here's a few more pics. Keep in mind all of these are with Panamorph UH 480 anamorphic lens in the path.

How are you able to use the Panamorph with this projector? I thought it was not capable of vertically stretching the image in order to use the lens.

Supposedly, the Oppo 203 has a function for Blu-ray's both 1080p and 4k that allows for an anamorphic lens on scope films. Its built-in scaler is pretty solid.

Listen up, studios! Dolby Atmos Lite™ print-outs must stop!!

Nice, that solves the CIH issue with this projector, now all that is needed is 3D.

Yes I'm using the Oppo 203 for the vertical stretch, works for 4K, 1080p, and 480p (DVD) sources.
I'm also using the Oppo 203 as a Pre-Amp, running the 7.1 outputs directly to my Earthquake Cinenova Amps. Works great.

Yes Oppo 203 for CIH scaling.
I'm not interested in 3D so no loss for me there.
