For Cable length, My setup needs about 27-30' due to all my gear being in another room. The fibre optical HDMI cable seems toi help, but looks like it's something to do with the AVR and signal issue. I had this happen with my old AVR, Pioneer VSX-521-K, changing my cable at the time helped the issue, but I wasn't pushing 4k HDR content due to my projector not supporting it at the time (Epson 2045).

Ok, I guess I would say try connecting directly if possible and see if you can isolate it to an AVR issue. Also, please feel free to post some screens of your settings and we can review to see if there's anything we could recommend trying differently from a settings perspective.

I've changed some HDMI settings like an Optoma CSR said to see if it will change, just need a few more days of testing.

Here are my current settings.

Using those tends to make the picture really blue on my screen for some reason.

Ok, no problem. Have you tried resetting everything to 0 and see how it looks from there? Maybe start small from zero and test incremental changes.

I've used a combination of settings found on this forum as well as with using Disney WOW and a couple of calibration apps on the Apple TV 4K. Here's what I've come up with for my UHD60.

Display Mode: HDR
Wall Color: Off
Dynamic Range: HDR Auto / HDR Picture Mode Standard
Brightness: -2
Contrast: 3
Sharpness: 7
Color: 15
Tint: -2
Gamma: 2.4
Ultra Detail: 3
Dynamic Black:On
Brilliant Color: 3
Color Temp: D65
Color Gamut: Cinema
CMS:
cyan / x offset 0 y offset +15 brightness 0
magenta / x offset -40 y offset -24 brightness 0
yellow / x offset -21 y offset +24 brightness 0
Color Space: Auto
RGB Gain/Bias Settings:
Red Gain: -4
Green Gain: 0
Blue Gain: -7
Red Bias: 2
Green Bias: -2
Blue Bias: 1

I know I may not have the best projector screen, built it myself with material from Carlofet. I'm thinking of upgrading to a EliteScreen Sable B2. Anyone have opinions on it or alternatives?

I would recommend a Silver Ticket matte white 1.0 gain screen with this projector.

Hello,

I have read through the manual and cannot figure what key to press on the remote to show what my source resolution is. Just to check if I am receiving a 4k signal from say Netflix? I'm assuming if it was a 1080p signal it would get up-scaled but I just want to ensure it's receiving a 4k source

Thanks in advance,
Bryan

Any reason for choosing silver ticket over elite screens?

They are both good choices. I went with the reviews on the Silver Ticket and have been happy with the results.

Go to settings, info. It will say either rec 709 or rec 2020. 2020 is from a 4k source

Turn off Dynamic Black then you should be able to change brightness.

I am sensitive to sound yes, but, also figured that something designed for home theatre use couldn’t possibly be right with this level and pitch of noise. Fan noise doesn’t bother me at all but the ringing I notice immediately, and in your use scenario I couldn’t use it at all. The PJ is 1.5m above and 1m back from the seating position so its close but I’m not right on top of it.

The retailer acknowledged the noise and said he’d installed a few and they were the same but I doubt this very much. I also noticed the fan noise you mentioned after shut down - a bit of a whoosh - but this is just fan noise and very different to the ringing sound which is present from right after power up. I have 4 fans in the server rack holdimg my amp and although they are there it is just airflow and doesn’t bother me at all.

I’ll send it back.

Thanks for the confirmation.
I returned the unit, the service centre replaced the colour wheel and discovered that 4 screws were missing hence why the unit was worse when upside down. It is much quieter now. Thanks for everyones help.

I bought Optoma UHD65 about 6 months back and after about 5 months usage projector would not start and bulb light came on red. So I changed the bulb and still have the same issue. When I turn on the projector the power button stays blue for about 30 seconds... starts blinking in red and bulb light turns on. Can any body have any experience on this please.

All three have had variations and severity of sounds. All of them have the extremely high pitched ringing, much like tinnitus. However the first two added a buzz to the mix. The second was so loud, I could hear the projector all the way down a long hallway, and into my bedroom.

I believe I can handle the one I currently have, but I'm still debating, and have a week left to decide. I am very sensitive to sound, so it's possible it's just me, but the projector has other issues the other ones didn't.

All three projector also had different throw distances. The first one I was about 4in diagonally from filling the screen. The second, I was just about a quarter inch off, and the third I am able to go over.

The current projector has issue with connecting when cycling between HDR and SDR. For example, if I'm wanting to play an HDR game on my xbox one x, and then want to go back to the dashboard, I'll get a no source found until I press the source button...sometimes up to three times before it connects. (BTW I'm using a 20ft high end fiber HDMI cable).

Also when switching from HDR to SDR half the time the image setting will stay on HDR (when it's supposed to be greyed out). This makes the picture look horrible until I manually switch it to cinema.

I did not have these issues with the first two projectors, and think Optima has a very underwhelming quality control...or I just have really bad luck.
Agreed on the QC. When mine went to the service centre it was missing 4 screws hence why the noise was worse when it was hung upside down rather than upright. They also replaced the color wheel. Its fine now.

Exclamation [Advice Need]Optoma UHD60 Buzzing Noise

Purchased UHD60 and installed last night.

Buzzing sound is coming from the device. doesn't sound like mechanical but more electromagnetic wave such as coming from bad condenser of voltage circuit.

noise is gone when only test pattern is projected. HDMI is fiber optic and noise is still coming even cable is off. power outlet is grounded. 3 different projectors has been used so far and no similar issues are noticed.
noise still coming no matter light or other nearby electric is on/off.

it would be great if anyone could give me an advice or known issues.

here's youtube video i took: youtu.be/GxcPrvx9YeY

Thanks.

No familiar enough with these to say for certain but the noise you are describing sound a bit like the e-shift in action. Can you turn this off and on and if so see if the buzzing stops too.

Try to disable actuator in engineer menu (on uhd50 it is off>up>left>left>menu on remote) but you need to do that every time. My projector have beed 3 time in warranty services and still has that issue. Its getting very loud on 60fps and I disable it every time

Thanks for the advise.
I was told that UHD60 does not use eshift but driving lense by actuator.
Optoma tech support replied that it is normal but noise is like i'm in under power tower and brings headache.
i have found couple of article complaining about this but all reply from Optoma were 'it is normal'.

Thanks for the advice. i will try it this evening.
it looks there're several peoples are concerning same issues. since you have got mutiple warranty services. have you noticed any differences b/w each devices?
i want to make sure if returning could be possible option. just have to take out from ceiling and readjust with new one which is pretty painful job.
please advise.

Hi I have tried command you mentioned on UHD60 but didn't work unfortunately. as you said, i have noticed noise is very per screen refresh. it turns very acceptable when bluray player shoots by 24Hz but very bad at 60Hz. just problem is that most appleTV, Xbox running based on 60Hz. so it is very rare having 24Hz environments. to be honest, i should not change the projector if 24Hz condition is more frequent. i'm planning to search UHD50 thread if there's any similar issues are and any advise would be awesome.

Thanks for the advice.

Thats strange. According to this thread it should work for your model: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/139-d...thread-55.html
You can try some other combination or ask in this thread.
There are some my samples: photos.app .goo .gl /paB34W4ha8hevD637
I think it is a little quieter after service but it is still no acceptable in 60fps for me.
I have tested eco mode and mor intensive fan (I have set high altitude to true) and no noise but I prefer bright mode.
Let me know about the progress.

[quote=abattle79;54131401]Finally got the screen and projector up and here is my review from a newb's point of view. Keep in mind I have high expectations that are rarely met when it comes to performance of just about anything. With that said...WOW...exceeds all expectations!! Pretty much the same reaction when I saw 4k on my tv for the first time. Great picture..you cant go wrong at this price. Two vids below 1 from youtube via hdmi from macbook pro and the second is the revenant from sony 4k player. Everything is out of the box with no tweaks I think in HDR mode. Last night I thought the projector was a little loud at times...had sort of a buzzing noise to it...but the speaker sounded pretty good if that matters to anyone. Once my rack is installed and I can view and hear in atmos i will be a very happy camper!

The blacks look great.

guys. giving you an update since someone may be interesting what's going on.
returned 1st product and bought another one by wishing 1st issue was the quality issue. 2nd one does not make buzzing sound however now it sounds 'humming'. different category but it is enough to make me dizzy.

so i'm about to return and i would say good bye with Optoma.
it would be awesome if you guys would recommend other product. looking at HT3550 but making me worry since it is DLP using same chipset with UHD. so possibly LCD model instead of DLP.

The most common solutions I've read:

- Switch to another lamp power mode (i.e. from high to low or from low to high) for a few hours, then back to your preferred bulb mode
- Usually it is to switch from low to high, as low or eco mode is more prone to the problem
- Change picture modes and then switch back
- Get a new bulb
- Run in high power mode for the first few tens or hundred hours on a new bulb to establish solid strike points for the arc
- Then switching to low power mode the arc will be less prone to develop wandering
- Place a magnet over the lamp area, if the wandering conditions are suitable that may stabilize the arc. Do at your own risk though of causing other problems with PJ
Most of these only seem to mitigate the problem or help stop it for a while, but if a bulb is prone to it, it may be very difficult to stop
Some say that going to high lamp at the first sign can help curtail it, but if it has been going on for a long time it is likely the bulb is too damaged to get it to go away with that bulb.
I have just started to experience this flickering issue, and have always used Eco mode. On a whim last night, I switched to bright and the flickering stopped. Today I googled it and found this post. Good to know that's all it is. Sounds like a new bulb is all that's required for a permanent fix.

The HT3550 would be a good option in a similar price range as the UHD60. If you can spend a bit more, you may also want to consider the HT5550, which does everything better than the 3550, or the Epson 5050UB, which is said to be brighter and have better color, but not quite as sharp as the 3550 or 5550. Also, you could go used with an Epson 5040 if you can find one available.
