Despite being backordered. selling for full MSRP, and having sales split between the UHD60/UHD65, the Optoma UHD65 is now the #1 selling projector on projectorpeople's sales charts in the $2000-$3000 pricerange!

It appears the floodgates have opened... RELEASE THE KRAKEN!

I dont think there are seperate profiles when SDR-HDR is turned on or off, you can calibrate different modes (Gaming, Vivid, Reference, etc) but the modes not autometically change when turning on SDR-HDR.

I tried sdr-hdr across different settings, some better than others. Cinema and reference looked ok. True hdr signal seems to look best though. Neat the option is there though!

True HDR signals looks incredible.

I downloaded this http://hdrsamples.com/life-of-pi-4k-...ample-footage/ and tried it out and it looks amazing. Way better then any of the UHD movies I have. Maybe I'll have to pickup Life of Pi on 4K.

Wow ! Now wives are complaining about too much time CALI-brating ? What is the world coming to ?

Usually, on a projector, there are the preset modes like Cinema, Gaming, Vivid, etc. but as soon as you adjust any setting like brightness R-G-B-gain or contrast or lamp power, that becomes a different mode like 'User 1' or 'User 2'. Does the Optoma not have saveable User Modes ? Or does it, but SDR-HDR conversion is not saved specific to a mode and is more like digital zoom or something that is a temporary setting only lasting until the projector is turned off ?

I'm really interested too to see how it compares to the TV in a first hand account till we get some numbers.
Watched Star Trek Beyond in 4K HDR last night and it was crazy good! I do think you need a light controlled room with the UHD65 because it is dimmer, especially with HDR, than standard SUHD TV like my Samsung KS8000. I moved my mount up a foot yesterday, received a Sony UPB-X800 and a 40' 18GBps cable yesterday and got it all set up. The UHD65 plays nice with the Sony. Both Bluray and 4K disks looks stunning - the upscaling by the Sony is very good. Also even just broadcast 1080P upscales really nicely with the pj. As long as you have decent video coming in, the projector makes it look awesome. My wife was really impressed with the 4k HDR movie last night and says we should always watch upstairs in the media room now - we had been watching mostly downstairs on the Samsung KS8000 65" since we got it last year. Downstairs we have a lot of ambient light so the KS8000 needs to be bright to work well. Upstairs we can get by with the lower brightness of the UHD65 since the room is pretty dark, especially at night since I do have some bleed through on the sides of the blinds during the day. All in all with some light control the UHD65 is hands down a better image than the KS8000 - colors , contrast, black levels, sharpness, everything is great as long as you can deal with the lower brightness level. I have mine set at 6 - which I don't know if its high not, and that seems to work well even when I do have some light in the room.

Hands down a worthwhile upgrade from my 2 year old LG PF1500 and very much on par with my 1 year old Samsung KS8000. If you are looking for a pj that gives you great overall viewing performance for both 4k and non-4k images I think you will be happy with the new Optomas. For me, I think that I would have been happy with the UHD60 with its slightly higher brightness level. I think the color on the 65 is better though, but I probably could due with out the Frame Interpolation.

MichGoBlue,

Could you reconnect your 1500 and show a couple of comparisons between the two projectors? Most importantly the dark scenes from some movies.

Sorry really don't have time to do that. I previously watched Daredevil season 2 on the LG PF1500 and was watching Season 2, Episode 1 last night for comparison - it starts off really dark. The UHD65 has such great detail and sharpness that you can see everything going on in the dark scenes, whereas the LG PF1500 it's just dark and you can't really see what is going on.

Sorry for not doing a more comprehensive review and side-by-side comparison - I am still pretty much a novice when it comes to this hobby and I am more concerned about getting better viewing experiences than before, not so much getting the best possible relative to other projectors and such out there. I have other "real" hobbies out there that earn me some extra spending money, so I just dump that into new equipment and such every once in a while. Probably next thing I get will be a new AV receiver, but I may wait until I get a 4K cable box for that.

Anyway I will check out Brilliant color next time I get the chance.

Ugh. PP hasn't shipped my UHD65 but Best Buy says they will ship me a UHD60 that will arrive on July 6th. I really wanted one before my holiday weekend...

Amazon had the UHD60 in stock so I went ahead and grabbed one. Should have it on Monday! I will cancel my order from Best Buy and let PP ship the UHD 65 eventually. I will be able to compare the UHD60 and UHD65 and decide which one to keep and which one to return.

I hope you didn't pay over MSRP ($1999) for the UHD60 on Amazon. I just took a look and saw some people are price gouging on Amazon ($2350+) due to the high demand of the UHD60/UHD65.

That's one thing I do not like about the Amazon site. A few days ago it was 1999 was the main price on the landing page for the product. Today it's 2349.

So Amazon makes a scroll down the page and click the link that says there are three vendors selling them... With the cheapest being 1999 via Prime.

I don't know why they do that. I would think the landing page for the product would have the cheapest price of all of the vendors.

Usually the way Amazon works is the landing page is the cheapest price as long as it is both in-stock and prime.

Since another vendor is in stock right now and Amazon is not, Amazon defaults to the in-stock vendor.

According to the person I spoke with from the Projector People (they are a premier dealer for Optoma) the Optoma projectors are being drop shipped from Optoma. It make me suspicious that Amazon does not have physical allocations of the projectors, rather they have allocation slots from Optoma. I'm a Prime member, and Amazon's site claimed yesterday that I was able to get a projector delivered on the 4th of July (which I REALLY doubt), that if true would be still be 5 day delivery for a supposed 2 day delivery. My guess is that there is another allocation of projectors for delivery drop ship from Optoma next week.

Of course I could be completely wrong too.

I paid the $1999 on Amazon. They only had 5 in stock at the time I purchased. Now that Amazon is out of stock, I noticed the price gouging going on.

You are correct. My PP rep stated that I am in order for my uhd65 and that they are sending the info to Optoma so they will drop ship directly to customer and skip PP delaying delivery.

I don't have a 25' one but have several premium certified 15' Monoprice cables and they work great with 4K.
