What happens if you turn off HDR at the game source? Also 120hz HDR might exceed your HDMI bandwith and current bit depth or color sampling.

I'll have to play with it when I get home, but if i recall correctly, every time i touched it the colors went wonky, so i left it as auto. Maybe I'd have to change it both on the project and PC simultaneously (although I doubt it, because i don't think the PC knows what the projector is expecting)

As for gaming at 120Hz, If I turn off HDR at the game source, the colors are no longer washed out, but they're also no longer HDR. I doubt its a bandwith constraint because 2160p60 HDR should take double the bandwidth of 1080p120 HDR, and it works.

If you set YUV on the projector and send it RGB the color will go wonky, but changing the source output to YUV should fix that instantly. The PJ should detect YUV and change when HDMI color = Auto but maybe not with your PC.

what bit depth and color sampling is the PC sending at 120hz/HDR?

Avengers Endgame on my UHD50.

I watched Endgame on my UHD50/145in screen, using my Sony UBP-X700 and the 4K HDR BD.

I used the following settings:

HDR Dynamic range = Bright

Gamma = 2.0 ( I have a low gain grey screen)

UltraDetail = 2 (this 4K HDR BD was upscaled to 4K from a lower res master and Ultradetail works well with these)

Dynamic Black = on

Color space = native

Brilliant color = 10

I am still amazed at how well this projector performs when fed 4K HDR content.

I've attached some sample still frames.

Edit: I've attached an image of AEG 2KBD upscaled to 4K to compare to the 4kBD.

(I have a UHD300X - the European version of the UHD40 - and they have yet to bring out a firmware update for us, so this is the only solution at the moment.)
I had similar problem and removing digital zoom solved the issue. I think Optoma soft is very bugged.

When I turn on Dynamic Black I observe increasing and decreasing brightness in one scene. How to handle it and make it more smooth or faster?

I get actuator buzzing very often but not always. What is it depends on?

You should hear the buzz every time the PJ switches into a 2160p mode

Dynamic Black responds to the lighting in the scene and this is normal, and the dimming of the bulb leads to much longer bulb life and higher contrast. I don't think there's anyway to change it's behaviour.

I can't hear any actuator buzz on mine, but the actuator is on when the projector is fed a 4K signal.

Dan either your hearing is exceptionally tolerant of fan noise or you have one of the only PJs that doesn’t sound like a broken refrigerator.

Read the comments from this youtube video:

I own 5 projectors right now, and the UHD50 (HC2030, HC1040, UHD66, W1070) is by far the quietest of the lot.

This review is in German but at 4:30 they place the microphone close to the projector (UHD3000A) and it is nearly silent:

if yours is noisy it's defective.

So...I think my lamp went belly up. I had a small power outage with immediate recovery earlier this week. Now my lamp stays on with the power light flashing.

Anybody have recommendations for replacement options?

I am curious about the correct setting for gamma on the Optoma UHD50. I am projecting an approximately 96” wide 1.78:1 image in a black painted small room in our mobile home. The screen is a 55” x 98” Carl’s Ultra White thumb tacked to the wall. I am getting a really great 4K image now, but I always wonder if it could be improved.

Is there any test disc image I could use to figure out my best gamma setting?

In my experience gamma is content and environment dependent and there's no one setting that's best, although I tend towards 2.0 on my 145in gray screen. I really wish each BD or 4K HDR BD would have some test content so I don't have to adjust it after it starts.

Off is not enough. The red light needs to turn off so the unit can completely reset.
