I can't really help because the UHD40 and UHD51 are EU only, AFAIK. However you can download the manual for each from Optoma.

I want to share my experience with this firmware update..
I actually upgraded my UHD300X (which is an EU version of this projector) with this firmware. For some reason, Optoma rarely release any firmware updates for their projectors here in Europe
Anyway when I checked in service menu (Power -> Up -> Down -> Menu) the projector name was UHD50 before the update, all firmware versions were the lowest possible, so I had to go with all steps 1,2 and 3..

Some advice: before the procedure, make sure you have USB to RS232 cable. I bought one from ebay for £3, but did not work, so I had to go with more expensive one with the correct chip - Seems the chip is important, has to support UART..
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

All steps went fine with no issues apart the very last one where you need to program EDID. It did not go according the guide and received PURPLE and two RED flashes instead RED and 2xGREENs. The projector started up, first I did not have any input signal. After another restart it caught the signal from HDMI. Not sure if the last programming bit was 100% successful, but my computer and xbox1x now showing that the projector is 3D capable. Tried some 3D blurays and it seems to work. The signal just takes little bit longer to get into 3D (longer than normal modes)
Not sure if I will ever use it (3D), but nice to have it just in case

It's not a projector's fault. Most of the recent Optoma projectors do that. I believe other brands as well.. you just need to get used to it or look for other types which doesn't have this overshoot (or at least not that big).

yep, that's normal. Mine projector has definitely larger overshoot than yours. Eco mode should lower the visibility of that overshoot and when watching movie you will easily forget that it's even there if it still bothers you, the only solution is to look for another model. Replacing the projector for a new one of the same model won't help in this case..

Given your setup, you can add some black material around the screen. Once a brighter image is displayed the border becomes much less noticable.

for example:

Yes, I'm certain that a darker wall paint would greatly improve things.

You mean UHD50? The UHD50X is not yet on the market, AFAIK.

Also image noise or audible noise?

OK, that's very interesting.

Audible noise = noise you hear.

image noise = on screen noise that you see.

I note that Optoma has adopted a new case design, that is smaller and lighter than the previous UHD50 case.

Where is the projector mounted (table or ceiling)?

Projectors have to move air through their casing to cool the lamp, so some noise is to be expected. If you have it low table mounted, you might place it on a shelf under the table, to gain some sound deadening effect.

Mass effect, which firmware are you using?

Can anybody confirm that 3d at 1080p 120 hz works with the latest firmware?

Many thanks.

Hi CeeJayII

Did you have any luck or is there any way around? I just bought UHD40 and can't get to start working in 3d Vision. It was the main reason I've upgraded from Benq 710ST. Its probably because the new firmware: System C08/MCU 04. Hope you can help.

Hey guys,

I have a movie file that my iMac says is Bit depth = 10, Chroma subsampling = 4:2:0
When I play it through Plex on my XB1X my Optoma UHD40 says it is displaying as 10 bit RGB
When I play the same file through Plex on my Nvidia Shield TV 2019, The Shield says the file is YUV 420, 10-bit Rec. 2020, HDR10 ready

BUT

When I check the display settings on the UHD40 this time, it says it is outputting 8 bit, 4:2:2...

I checked Netflix (Spenser Confidential) on my Shield and the UHD says it's 10 bit 4:2:0
I checked the same movie on Netflix on my XB1X and it also says 10 bit 4:2:0

Does anyone know why movies are correctly showing via my Xbox as 10 bit, and also Netflix on the Xbox and Shield as 10 bit, but for some reason movies through Plex on the Shield only show as 8 bit? Even though the Shield itself says it is at 10 bit?

Also, I'm getting a little confused, people saying there is no firmware update for the UHD40, only for the UHD50... But I thought the UHD40 is just the European name and the UHD40 and UHD50 are actually the same projector?

Therefore the firmware update for the UHD50 is for the UHD40 right?

Not really. Does Optoma EU provide the firmware update? If not then it might not be authorized and might void your warranty.

I have run in to an issue trying to update my UHD50 firmware. I can't get step one to run. The DLPC4422 GUI give me this error: Cannot open USB driver - No projectors available.

Has anyone seen this before?

So, I got a 50 for my brother in law. His shelf is right side up just below the screen top. The projector seems to only throw the picture to the top 1/4 of the screen and onto the roof the other 3/4. Is there no way to adjust it down? The lens shift is at max. It's completely level with the screen and just points up. It's super weird. almost like it's fixed into the lens to only be placed either at waist level, or upside down at the top of the screen.
You can see the dust gathering on the top 1/3 of the lens where the light is coning out, rather than the middle. I can't seem to find anything online with the same thing.
