It's less than optimal that one needs to use the service menu to verify all 3 firmware versions with this update, but there's no easy way to enter it, nor do they indicate that in the upgrade instructions.

Anyways, I received my 3D DLP link glasses today and I tested out 3D using the Passengers 2016 BD on my Panasonic UB420. I fired up the UB420 and switched the UHD50 from HDMI1 (computer) to HDMI2 (UB420) and the UB420 didn't recognize the UHD50 as 3D capable. I turned the UB420 off and on with its remote and when it restarted it did recognize the UHD50 and went into 3D mode. The DLP link glasses worked well and for the first time I watched 3D on a projector!

Awesome! Much better than in the theatre and bright enough even on my 145in grey screen, with a fair amount of ambient light (lights off, drapes closed, but still some light through the drapes) in the room. Tonight, after dark, I will watch more.

So I did watch some more from my UB420 and from my Sony X700. As expected it looked better in the darker room. Overall the UB420 might be preferable for 3D but the Sony did quite well also.

Which BD player? Is it connected directly to the UHD50?

It is connected directly to the UHD50? Intervening devices might not pass the signal properly to the UHD50.

I would try to by turning on the BD player, placing the disc into it and then turn on the UHD50.

I've found that receivers often don't work as expected. Anyways for trouble shooting it's best to directly connect the BD player to the projector.

In my post I state that I couldn't get the green LEDs either. These are the instructions:

9U13 Firmware Upgrade
1. Open the folder labeled “STEP3_9U13_C07”.
2. Rename: “OPTOMA_UHD50_Scaler_MST9U13Q1_C07_0x6C9E_svn706 .bin” (no quotations) to “UHD50.bin”. If you cannot see the .bin extension of the file, you will need to disable “hide extensions for known file types”. Please go to: Control Panel > Folder Options (in Windows 10 it is called “File Explorer Options”).
3. Copy UHD50.bin to the “empty” USB Flash Drive. UHD50.bin should be the ONLY file on the USB Flash Drive.
4. Connect the USB Flash Drive to the USB Port labeled “USB POWER OUT (5V 1.5A)”.
5. Press and hold MENU key on UHD50. Plug-in power cable. Power LED will flash Red/Blue (rapidly).
6. Release MENU key once the Lamp LED is flashing RED (LED in the middle).
7. The Power LED will flash Red/Blue and the Temp LED will be solid RED – Firmware Upgrade is now in progress. The Firmware Upgrade process takes roughly 1 minute.
8. When the Firmware Upgrade is complete, the power LED will turn solid RED.
9. Unplug the Power Cable on the Projector for 30 seconds -- then insert the Power Cable.
10. Remove the USB Drive.
Program Auto EDID – Please follow the instructions below “precisely”.
1. Remove all source cables from input port of the projector.
2. Press and hold Menu key, then plug-in the power cable. The power LED will rapidly flash RED and BLUE.
3. Release Menu key when power LED flashes BLUE.
4. LED will turn “PURPLE” for several seconds – do not touch any keys on the keypad.
5. When power LED flashes RED and lamp and temp LED flashes GREEN, press the Menu key.
6. After several seconds (10 to 15), the power LED will turn RED. Auto Programming is now complete.
7. Remove power cable, insert power cable, power on projector and use as normal.

Can u help me another time ? Im trying to read an mkv movie from my laptop to the uhd 50, the movie is in sbs format. The issue is that my uhd50 doesnt reckognize the file as a 3d content and the 3d options on the projector's menu are greyed out. I tried with 720p resolution as i know that sbs isnt supported by 1080p resolution, but nothing works, even when i try the 3d button on the controller it says "not supported"

Does your laptop's video card support 3D?

I'm embarking on a mission to upgrade this projector for the firmware update

when I looked into it a few months ago the steps just seem to be too complicated and a lot of hard work but with all this quarantine thing and having nothing but time on my hands I figured I'll give it a go

What kind of 3D glasses does this thing use? Active shutter or the movie theater type passive one?

It uses DLP link glasses, like these:

ttps://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07BMQ36DD/ (I bought a pair of these and they work fine)

If you decide to do the 3D firmware update, I'd suggest carefully reviewing the last few pages of the UHD50 (this) thread.

The UHD50X is a better gaming projector. The UHD50 and UHD50X can project a maximum ~114in image from 10ft:

A really nice way to watch 4K streaming content from a non-HDR PC is Reference Mode plus Gamma = Graphics.

As someone that owns this projector I would say the biggest weakness is brightness. I love the value of this projector for pixels, but it needs a lot of help to eliminate light pollution. Look at speed, pixel density, and throw distance of course. How much light the bulb puts out is also an important aspect that some of us have to look at when picking a projector in a room that is not windowless. YMMV.

Sorry I was not able to find an information on the last pages I'm interested in.

I'm currently wondering which 3D formats supports are supported by Optoma UHD 50 after updating to the latest firmware.

From the comments here I was able conclude that frame packed format must be supported now (because 3D bluray player works now and framepacked is the default format for it)
Then very likely Side by Side and Top & Bottom are supported as well.

But here comes the question of the day:
What happened to frame sequential 3D? This was the 3D format which was supported with the original older firmware of the projector. Did Optoma just drop that feature?

Could somebody look in projector OSD which 3D formats are offered there, please?

What do you need frame sequential 3D for?

For Nvidia 3D Vision. So far I'm using the projector mainly for stereoscopic 3D gaming on PC. The UHD 40 / 50 were one of the very few projectors supporting 1920x1080 @120 hz + 3D frame sequential mode. Would be a shame if the latest firmware had killed the best 3D format for the projector.

Shorty summarized:

- Frame packed format has full 1080p resolution but it's limited to 24hz. Playing games with just 24 fps is awful.
- With Side by Side and Top/Bottom you can play with 60 fps but lose half of the resolution per eye.
- 3D frame sequential has full 1080p resolution and 60 fps per eye. It combines the best of both worlds.

Tried 3D gaming a few years ago, but my 1080p could not handle sequential more than 720p. What other projectors are compatible?
Not sure what the user base for this kind of application is, but I don't think it's very large, especially since Nvidia dropped 3D support.

Have you been able to load 3D into new drivers after 425.31?
