Can we get a moderator on this guy please. Look at every thread he is in and its nothing but troll posts and arguing. Now he is using a new article from 2006 to cut down BenQ as a company and its products in other threads too.

And back on topic, Chris, you need to get this done like today. The rest of us will have this projector early next week bud...

The shocking part is how that article is designed as propaganda pandering to a certain mindset.....

And for some one to get BenQ mistreats workers out of it, just shows it works.....

This projector has no lens-shift, right ? So I can't zoom in and out the image to fit my mounted screen from a fix spot (the current projector location) ?

I think your confusing zoom with lens shift. It has zoom, letting you make the image bigger or smaller. Lens shift allows you to move the image up and down (vertical lens shift) or left and right(horizontal lens shift). Most DLP’s that have lens shift, are limited vertical shifts below the center of the lens when when ceiling mounted.

One thing that I want to mention here that I didn't mention in the review is that the HDR performance of this projector is better than the UHD60 when the HDR mode is activated. The colors are more vibrant and the image has more depth than it does on the Optoma. Just keep in mind that it looks best on a screen smaller than 120 inches.

How does the PQ compare to your Optoma uhd60? Just saw your reply about PQ between both thanks. Did you ever review the Vivitek HK2288? Just would like to know if the PQ will be better on the Benq.

So what kind of xpr is this pj using ? Are the same pixels overlayed 4 times? Or there is a wobulating mirror?

Also, does it include the Vertical Stretch feature for use with an anamorphic lens ? On the Benq W1070 this is enabled by changing "aspect ratio" to "letter box" so it stretches a 2.40:1 image vertically to eliminate the black bars with losing anything from the sides.

the HT2550 utilizes revolutionary 0.47” single-DMD DLP technology to minimize the projector’s sleek, compact profile. So it's the 1080p 4 way shift dmd.

I too would like to know this as I have the hk2288 and on the fence to swap it out for the ht2550 if it's better in terms of pq. I pick up the hk2288 for around the same price as ht2550.

I got 2 more weeks to decide on keeping the Vivitek or get something else. Just don't know when Vivitek will release a firmware to fix some of the issues that people are having with this projector.

Good review. I will definitely watch more of your tech reviews in the future.

You touched on most of the major things we wanted to know about, including the border pixels and 3D.

It seems like the border pixels are indeed in the "off" mirror position, so the contrast being lower due to light leakage inside the optical cavity due to that border is real, but I think future models can fix it via masks and an DIY hacker could open up the projector and put an ultra black border around the DMD to mask the 16:9 portion of the image, to boost the on/off contrast to something comparable to the 0.66 inch chip XPR models. (or better). This is of course if you're willing to risk opening it.

I have another special request for you to try if you're willing, which I'll PM you about instead.

It has 110% default offset which is about the same as some previous projectors' max lens shift offset. This works out well for me.

Chris, you have a 100” zero border screen right? Did you happen to measure how much ‘overhang’ there was around your screen?

What to do if you find yourself stuck with no hope of rescue:
Consider yourself lucky that life has been good to you so far. Alternatively, if life hasn't been good to you so far, which given your present circumstances seems to be more likely, consider yourself lucky that it won't be troubling you much longer...

Correct. It's borderless. Its pretty huge. The photo in the video was about 4 to 5 inches of "light border". At 135 inches the border is at least 8 inches.

Chris, first I want to commend you on a thorough, objective projector evaluation covering both the good and bad. I wonder if you have tested any WUXGA (1920x1200 pixel) projectors with 1080p (1920x1080 pixel) content and had a chance to evaluate how bright the 60 pixel light borders are on the top and bottom. If so can you comment on the relative light border brightness. In the past it's been said that those top and bottom 60 pixel light borders from the inactive pixels are small enough to be hidden by the black borders most screens have. It sounds as if these light borders may be wider than most black screen borders. I just wonder if the light borders are equally bright or if there's something different about the 0.47" XPR chip that exaggerates the brightness of the light borders.

Is 120" ok, or is the pq noticably better on a 100"-110" screen? Do you think a short throw would help the HDR on a larger screen?

IDK if you've ever seen a BenQ HT2150, or my 2150st. I'm wondering about the pq difference between the two.

Thanks for the review.

I can't tell you how happy I was to see this review posted late one night. All day at work I was trying to sneak in whatever research I could and the video was great! Please keep doing these sorts of reviews. They are really informative and well done.

I can't wait to hear more talk about the HT2550 as well as its competitors from Optoma and Epson. I was so close to pre-ordering this but now I want to learn more about competing projectors. I came close to buying the Vivitek pixel-shifter before hearing about the handshake issues and weird lack of firmware updates from home.

My main concern lately has been if these projectors will work with 4K content and at which cable lengths. I'm NOT going to buy a $200+ HDMI cable if I can help it.

Thanks again for posting the review!

I'm sorry that's not much of a review it's just a general overview of the projector.
