Has anyone bought an Optoma 4K550ST?
That's the best option for me to upgrade from a BenQ 2150ST 1080p. Best price I could find was $3300 shipped. Its throw ratio is perfect for my needs.

I have been looking at the same possible upgrade path from my HT2150ST as well. I found a quoted price slightly below the $3,300 figure you mentioned, but I'm still reticent to upgrade given the lack of info on the 4k550ST out there.

My understanding is that the 4K550ST is a data projector not intended for HT. I'm also looking for an upgrade for my BenQ (HT1085ST), but haven't found anything suitable, yet (UST would also work for me, but the ones I've seen all miss the mark in at least a couple areas). Looking for native (or "true") 4k for a 135" screen from about 8' max with HDR and >2,000 lumens (and preferably input lag < 50ms, but more flexible on that one).

It looks like the new HT3550 would be nearly perfect for me, if it came with in a short(er) throw version .

Yeah, I had decent hopes for the 4k550ST, but it appears you are correct. I wasn't expecting miracles out of it for home theater purposes, but Projector Central's impressions were that it only reached 75% of Rec 709. It did seem to do better than I would have expected for contrast and black levels, at least based on Projector Central's impressions. Sorry I'm post count limited, or I'd post the link.

At any rate, guess I'm in the same boat as you waiting for a shorter throw HT3550 or something like it.

Looking for a 4K replacement for my mothballed BenQ W1080ST with a 5"7" throw distance for a 100" screen. Would like the same weight, if possible, as well. (My 100" projector screen fits over my 75" Sony 900F LCD/Full Array TV)

I guess BenQ is not interested in providing an upgrade path for W1080ST users? Oh well, I wanted a pony when I was younger but I didn't get that, either.

Home Theater Setup
SONY 75X900F & 49X900E, BenQ W1080ST, Denon X5200 & Emotiva XPA-3
AudioSource 100VS, OPPO 103 & Samsung K8500, 9.1.4 Setup - Speakers - Studio 60's,
V.2 (FL/FR), CC-690 (C), V.5, ADP 590 V.5 (SS), MilleniaOne 2.0 (BS) - Velodyne 810 Sub,
Cornered Audio (FH/RH), Definitive Technology (Front Wides)

At the moment you get UST or you get minimum 1.2 throw and nothing in between.

Much thanks. Looks like the closest I can get is the Optoma 4K550ST which Projector Central estimates 5' 8" throw distance for a 100" screen. It's double the weight of my current projector but in the right price range. I'll guess I see what's available in the next six months. I need to keep my ceiling mount for my smaller man cave as I can't use an UST since my large, center speaker is located right in front of both my 75" LCD and drop down projection screen.

Anybody have any experience with the Optoma 4K550ST? I'll look at that thread, as well.

If you can wait a bit benq is going to push out a 1.13 throw at some point this year for an estimated $1500. It’s called the HT3550 although as far as I can tell it hasn’t been officially announced yet.

I have followed the post on the w2700/HT3550, and looked forward to recive my own after I ordered it. Its been a long wait (I finished the home cinema room for christmas), and today I got a new date, several weeks ahead. After reading more and trying with a cardboard box to simulate the projector, I now realised to my horror, that I have miscalulated the throw distance, and that the long awaited projector will not fit due to my tilting roof! (I can get the distance, but I will slam my head into it..)

Frustrated and angry with myself, I have started to look for options with a throw ratio from about 0,7-1. I would like to get 110" or 120" display from 215 cm`s away (flat roof).

Do anyone have a sugestion for me?? The main use will be movies, but also football. It`s prefreble with 4k, and same budget as the w2700/ht3550, but I guess the options a few (if any).
Is the HT2150ST the best one out there now? The lack of 4K is of course frustrating, but i need to get one now (since I allready have wasted 1\2 year waiting on the HT3550)

Thanks!

Sadly there are no options in that throw range for 4k.

It’s 1.13 or UST.

OK. Thanks for your reply Jason. I have ordered the Benq HT2150ST. Hopefully there will be a 3550 with ST soon.

It’s not like we haven’t been yelling at them to make one. Lol.

Tuan from optoma got ya all excited and then they pushed out a “me too” UST. Bah!

***Looks like many more "UST" projectors on the horizon. So far, we have Xiaomi (here, now, but I know - Chinese) with soon to be released - Optoma (P1) and now the ViewSonic X1000-4K. Did I miss any others?

The ViewSonic X10-4K looks like a boat anchor. The way my finished basement is - I can't mount anything over 7 lbs. Therefore, UST is really my only option in replacing my BenQ W1080ST with a 4K Projector.

Home Theater Setup

The much more expensive LG HU85LA and about a have dozen Chinese options. Considering you have a basement maybe a compact projector like the BenQ HT3550 with a 1.3:1 throw ratio might be a better bet than a UST.

***Much thanks for your post. At this point, my screen has gone kaput, as well, so I'll probably not replace anything until we move in a couple of years. We're trying to see if we can find a place in the Caribbean that makes sense. Something like Aruba that is out of the hurricane belt and a projector that I can take with me. I really like the ease of an Ultra Short Throw projector as it should be easier to install once the screen is setup. Having the noise farther away from you as opposed to right over head should help too. Hopefully, by then, there will be many more 4K Laser UST choices available.

Thx again - Rico.

9 lbs

https://www.projectorcentral.com/ViewSonic-X10-4K.htm

This PJ got pretty nice comments from PJ Central.

Also the HT3550 throw is 1.13 not 1.3.
