@Tuan have you guys seen the 3D sync issues that the HT2550 has and have you guys tested to see if the uhd51a will have a similar issue?

In case you’re not aware the HT2550 early units are dropping sync after about a minute of playback.

Just wondering if it’s a systemic issue with the TI chip.

@Tuan : Do you know when the 51A specs will show up on Optoma's website? Since it's not there it's probably going to be another month (ie. end of April) before release based on what they have done in the past with the UDH50.

can someone tell me, if this projector 3D Full HD and if he has an intermediate image calculation? So not 3: 2 pulldown, without jerking so?

thanks

Yes, the UHD51a has frame interpolation. The UHD50 does not.

Thank you. And 3D in Full HD?

Does anyone know if the UHD51A will be available in Germany?

Will the UHD51A offer DLP's BrilliantColor setting? If so, will the RGBRGB color wheel eliminate the purple solarization artifacts I see from my UHD60 (RGBCY color wheel) from time to time in very light colors like blue sky with clouds, etc?

I like BrilliantColor on high personally but have to turn it way down to 2 or 3 to keep the purple artifacts from every appearing for sure. Unfortunately, this doesn't work for the Apple 4K TV which looks best with BrilliantColor set on high to me as reds look wrong with it set to low or off.

Really want to have 3D again. I got the UHD60 just to complete all of my HT upgrades for the year and couldn't wait until April: it will make a good backup/extra projector. Was going to get a Benq HT2550 until it was released with issues.

not expecting to see the same 3d sync issue with optoma but also the UHD50 (and more than likely 51A also) has the same buzzing and light border issue that HT2550 has.

Is the buzzing from the 4 times shifting? I'm having to run my UHD60 in Bright mode to get over issues with it and it's louder than Eco mode.

The UHD50's spec sheet doesn't list TI's BrilliantColor as a feature. That's actually good news for me personally as it's obviously what's introducing the purple solarization I mentioned above from time to time. Hopefully the UHD51A won't have it/need it either.

@Wesley Hester : The UHD50 manual states Brilliant Color selection from 1-10. All Optomas that I have seen have it.

Thank you. I couldn't get a hold of the owner's manual. Good to know. Hopefully the RGBRGB Color Wheel will make up the difference. I'll know for sure some time in April.

The UHD50 "owner's manual" that my review unit came with is exactly one page long, with only basic instructions for how to turn the projector on, connect cables, and adjust the zoom/focus/lens shift controls. Anything other than that is up to you to figure out on your own.

The projector does have a BrilliantColor control, which comes maxed out by default. Whether you consider it an improvement to the picture quality is up to you. I turned it off.

I was OK with it (BrilliantColor) off until switching to the Apple 4K. Reds were changed in a weird way. All other sources were fine. I'm trying to keep the same settings across all inputs of my AV receiver. I've reduced the issue with Dynamic Black off and with the Lamp on Bright instead of Eco. Doesn't totally eradicate the issue, just lessens it for me so far.

I'd rather have BrilliantColor be an OPTION that I can tweak freely and have it not introduce any kind of issue like it is now.

I have a manual PDF for the UHD60 and I can't remember where I got it from. I know it and the HD33 I replaced both have their manuals on CD.

Thank you for the link. I'll download it when I get home for sure to get some insight on the UHD51A.

TI marketing-speak aside, I found the following comment about BrilliantColor on a TI technical forum:

Quote:
The CMW sections aren't used for color creation, not even secondary colors, rather they are added to their complementary colors to pass more light for greyscale. All full-saturation colors are created as normal with the RGB segments. Brilliantcolor is used to boost midtones/greyscale and as colors blend to white. If your application requires color accuracy and/or proper color-to-white balance, you should consider leaving brilliantcolor out of the design.

Your finding pretty much hits the nail on the head of all my observations to the tee in regard to BrilliantColor to date. Especially "and as colors blend to white" and if the color is light blue/cyan.

This looks like the same pdf that we pulled off the uhd300x European page a month ago or so.

Seems legit. Would love someone who actually has a real retail manual to confirm.

This is what came in the box.

That's it, the whole thing. The back side is warranty and safety information in multiple languages.

There is usually a CD that has the manual on it that you have to save or print out on your computer. Are you saying that was not included as well? That doesn't make sense.

I think more and more companies are going to online manuals so they can be updated as needed.

There was no CD in the box with the projector I received. However, it was a review sample, so it's possible that it doesn't have everything that comes with the retail package.
