As long as my UHD51ALV detects a signal on HDMI 1 it will default to that input and I don’t have to change sources. It could just be displaying the last input used though but either way I’m not having to choose my source at start up.
As far as the Digital zoom I don’t use that but if you are setting it to -1 you may want to look for a projector with a shorter throw distance if you can’t move the projector closer to the screen or use the the manual lenses zoom to zoom out enough to fit the screen.

Hey guys so I asked this on the UHD50 thread but no reply yet so I figured I'd ask here as well for maybe a response since the UHD50 is the sister projector to this one.

How do you go about updating the firmware on the projector? Is it as easy and simple as just going to the Optoma website and downloading the firmware onto a USB stick and sticking it into the projector and update that way like one would do with a TV?

You download the firmware update and read the included instructions:

The first set of instructions lays out the needed hardware:

Quote:
UHD50 C07 System Firmware Upgrade Package Release Date: 4-11-2019
Required Hardware:
• UHD50 Projector
• Computer, Laptop, Ultrabook or tablet running Windows, 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10
• USB-A to USB-A Cable
• Small USB Flash Disk (256MB or larger) – must be formatted in FAT32.

HDMI/HDCP Issues with Projector and blu-ray player

Hi,

I have recently purchased an Optoma UHD51 projector, and have it hooked up to a Sony UBP-X700 4k blu-ray player via a HDMI 2.0 cable.

The issue is that the screen will flicker and distort very often, but intermittently. This only happens through the HDMI source, and will not occur when I am on the projectors main menu.
(Please see picture attached). This issue would also sometime have a popping noise come through the projectors speakers at the same time, but not through my external speakers.

I was experimenting with some of the settings, and the projector has an option for HDMI EDID 1.4 or HDMI EDID 2.0. When on the EDID 1.4 option, this issue does not occur, however this also limits frame rates etc.

I was also testing it with a ps4 (not pro), and that would not work either way until I turned off the HDCP option in the ps4 settings. And then again, it would only work correctly when the EDID 1.4 setting was selected.

I have had this projector replaced because of this issue and am still having it. I have tested the blu ray player and hdmi cable with a 4k tv, and no issues happen there, just with the projector.

As far as I'm aware both HMDI ports in the projector and blu-ray player are HDCP 2.2, so I have no clue as to whats causing this issue?

Any help is appreciated!

If you traded out the projector and still have the same issue, the projector is not the problem.

HDMI is very finicky. Just because your HDMI cable worked with a 4k TV does not mean the cable will work with the projector. I would try a new "certified" HDMI cable like:

The Optoma 51 like the 51a and 51 alv are very sensitive to hdmi cable specs and sense a 1.4 versus 2.0 high-speed cable with builtin internet, audio and dual streaming. 2.0 hdmi handles [email protected]/60 (2160p), whereas 1.4 hdmi can only handle [email protected], and sometimes not even that. Also, cable length is important as well as the gauge of the cable that can handle 18Gbps. Try another cable. If you go through Amazon, you can usually return it if it doesn't work, but make sure you read the return policy of the seller.

i still rock UHD51A since a release date. I'm bit disappointed UHD51ALV was released shorty after cause i would definitely go with this one.

I definitely need something brighter then UHD51A and I'm wondering if we are going to have any new models coming ?

I'm thinking about selling UHD51A and buying a newer unit.

If anyone is still reading this thread I would like to ask about what color settings are you using, for normal use and HDR (maybe even 3D, but that's not so much important)? Would like to see what you guys have and try it out, it might be better, than what I have right now.

Do you mind sharing a link? It's a bit frustrating to find something on a thread without find option...

It's not even optimal using anyone settings, when with projector really depends on your lamp use, but without proper calibration set up, that's the only thing I can try.

There are some HDR pluge patterns on youtube that you can use if you have a method of streaming HDR from Youtube.

Just goto youtube and search for " 4k HDR test pattern ".

My Sony UBP-X700 4k BD players allows me to stream 4K HDR from Youtube.

Will give it a go with my UBP-X800, but others already pointed me out on R.Masciola's HDR-10 UHD Test Patterns thread, that without colorimeter you won't achieve much. At the moment I have nothing else to try, so this might be still better than nothing. What was your experience, did you get better colors that way?

I got better colour in SDR ISFday by setting the contrast and brightness via the pluge pattern. I haven't experimented much with changing the HDR settings since they seem good as is on my low gain grey screen.

Also, I selected HDTV as my colour space for HDR and that seemed to reduce the over saturation on the reds.

I don't use the ISF presets, but for HDR Native color space is what's been working best for me so far, in terms of less over saturated colors (reds and some blues), not noticed that anything is being lost with that color space either.

I have an Optoma UHD51 projector with a damaged lens module. I got it reasonably cheap off eBay. By messing around a lot, I was able to get it into usable shape. Now the image is more or less in focus. However, the zoom still doesn't work at all. I would like to replacement the whole lens module. Does anyone know where I can get one?

Look up video projector repair shops. Ask some of the major dealers online. Optoma will probably fix it for you for a price. Might cost more to fix, than you paid for it, though.

Here is a list: https://www.projectorcentral.com/repair-suppliers.htm

Thanks. If none of them will sell me a lens module for a reasonable price, the replacement part will eventually turn up on eBay. I can certainly replace the module myself, I've had to take it apart to sort of fix it anyway. When I received the projector, it was impossible to adjust the focus properly, one of the lenses was badly decentered.

Can the UHD51/51A do 120Hz in 1080p?
It's not in the manual.

Can any 4K Optoma do 120Hz in 1080p?

I've read user reviews that state this is possible.

For which model?

I saw that the UHD50 could be placed in 3D at 1080p 120Hz, and then the 3D deactivated, but could not find anything else.

This video review states 1080p/120hz is possible and states the lag as ~25ms:

at 3:20. From 3:30 he discusses input lag at 60hz and 120hz. From 15:30 he discusses input lag at 120hz with examples.

The UHD3000a is similar to the UHD51ALV.

As is usually the case, I'm a late adopter to any new piece of hardware. My budget dictates that I wait until something goes down in pricing before I buy in. That usually means that the accompanying thread for gear that's new to me is dead by the time I come around.
In this case, I got a pretty good deal on this projector earlier than I thought I would and so I'm going there are still enough people around to discuss my new toy.
I've read as much of the thread to get it mounted square with the proper cables to throw a 100" image with a certified 20 foot cable run from my amp.
I have been able to properly trigger HDR mode and have achieved a stunning picture using some of the values from this thread.
My primary source will be a 2017 NVIDIA SHIELD playing 4K HDR remuxes. I'm curious as to what settings people are using for this purpose.
It seems that no matter what settings I use on the SHIELD or KODI, or what my amp displays, the info from the projector settings seems to indicate that I'm only displaying 8 bit color.
While the picture is mind blowingly better than my retired HD25-LV, I'm wondering if I'm getting the best out of the UHD51A.

What frame rate is reported by the UHD51A?

Does the bit depth increase if you use 24P?

I set KODI to use the refresh rate of the source which is always 23.976 for all my material as I only watch movies in my HT.
The projector reflects this but shows as 8 bit..

There have been numerous threads on the forum regarding the NVIDIA SHIELD and bit depth issues. IIRC, there have been some firmware updates that improve the situation.

I see... Your response has sent me down the google hole...
I imagine that my setup is not unique..I have a newer model Onkyo receiver that I'm sure is passing everything new unmolested.
Can anyone here chime in with there best SHIELD/KODI settings for playing back 4K 10bit HDR on this projector?
I've got like one day off in the next 2 weeks and would like to spend it watching a movie or two with my kids rather than them watch me fiddle with settings..

I would test your setup with a direct connection from the video source to the projector and once that is sorted out, then move on to testing it through the Onkyo. There have been lots of threads where amps have not been passing the entire signal through and trying to debug the NS and Onkyo might be challenging.

latest Firmware for UHD51A (with Alexa)

I found a C09 firmware for the UHD51 (without Alexa)
dropbox.com /s/u2s7gsfo3gineh5/UHD51.zip?dl=0

Can I use this firmware to flash my UHD51A (with Alexa)?
If not: what is the latest firmware version for the UHD51A (with Alexa)?
