Comparing the same data with the 9300, there was a slight improvement.

Mike.
Those images would give the impression that beyond absolute black the Epson is actually superior. Very interesting.

Epson EH-TW9400 - QualGear Fixed Frame 100” - Sony x700 BRP & Panasonic 420 BRP - Sony 1080 AVR - IPL Acoustics M1TLs & IPL Acoustics AVC Pro Centre, Four KEF surrounds & 2 Sub boxes (10” Sub + 10” Passive Radiator)

There is some form of auto on the N series JVCs, which uses metadata, though how quite that works I'm less sure as they don't seem to mention HDR10+. Seems odd.

The alternative route is something like the Panasonic ub420/820 which does support HDR10+ and the latter DV, though I think for that to work the whole chain needs to?

I've got a 420 and the Epson slider is very similar, guess i need to find a HDR10+ disc and see what happens!

WOW.... A whole 10 discs.... They're really spoiling us!

I do have the new Alien one though, so I'll have a play tonight and see what happens!

How is the 3D on the 9400, does it have the issues the previous generation had?

It's discussed in this review of the TW 9400:

Agreed, not a lot of content yet. Even more surprising/disappointing is the odd selection of titles that were chosen for the HDR10+ format.

Thanks, but that's written in another language. Is there a way to click it to English or something?

The conclusion of the review is that there is no better projector available at its price point.

Yea I can understand that. Think the 5040ub is 32ms and I had no problem with playing COD and battlefield. In fact I played better than I did using my 65" 900F.

Where do you find the information about how long the discount runs for?

If you just go to epson's page, just click on the "Save 300 today" for the 5040, it shows how long it runs

Cool thanks. I never tried clicking on that before. Probably doesn't mean a whole lot unfortunately as they can keep extending it as long as they want.

BHphoto has the 5040UB on sale for $1999 and says there is still a free lamp rebate available from epson until 3/31/19. I'm not sure how that will affect any potential announcements. They definitely seem to be trying to clear inventory.

Thanks for the review. Looks like you are setup to directly compare this Epson with the out-going and in-coming JVC's.
Excellent! Will you write a comparison review?

Thank you. I'd like to know some things.

1) It seems like e-shift is not worth turning on for 1080p source materials. I keep seeing evidence that it softens the image up. For my seating distance/size, I do not see pixel structure on my current setup.

2) As you say with 4k source material, it's a different story. You also mention that e-shift is automatically turned on for 4k source material and you're not able to turn it off. Therefor, you probably cannot get any comparisons.

What I'd like to see is if you have a 1080p blu-ray, and a 4k blu-ray, can you have 3 comparison images? 1) 1080p source: e-shift off, 2) 1080p source: e-shift on, and 3) 4k source. I have yet to see a review that has these three images.

From what I have seen however, is that I would not turn on eshift for 1080p content. "softening" up the imagine is exactly opposite to what it should be doing!

On

1. E-shift softens the image, and reduses the MTF in the image if used. It can be used if you use 4K signal in. Then on the RS400, 420,440 and up to the rs 600,620,640.
Personally I used 1080P without e-skift on theese models.
And if you see pixelstructure on a JVC 1080P model you sit to close to the screen But e-shift on you don't see much of any pixel.

2. When you run 4K in you cant turn of eshift. The same on JVC and the Epson. My personal experience and I agree with you on 1080P turn it off. But with 4k signal in it look some better.

On my Nx9 I will probably never use e-skift 8K. I have checked but I will say no difference at all. So then its best to turn it off.

What do you want to know?

Sharpness: From one screen width back, on a well lit 4K scene, is one projector noticeably sharper than the other?

HDR: Is one projector noticeably better than the other with bright highlights, or detail in dark scenes?

Contrast: Obviously the JVC's are better in very low light level scenes, but at what point does the Epson begin to compete? Very subjective and many variables, but if you could give examples of dark scenes in popular movies that are clearly better on the RS440 than on the Epson and examples of scenes where the difference is minimal.

Thanks.

This is what I recently saw when setting the 5040 up in my new theater. Last place I used eshift with 1080p because I thought it would be better. But now I run eshift off and image enhancement on 3-4, much sharper image on spandex.

I'm having a hard time tracking this down, some hopefully someone here can answer. Is the ehsift on the 5050 2x or 4x? I'm looking for my first projector but with a primary use of gaming and the input lag on this one sounds way better than any of the dlp options.

It’s only 2 times instead of the 4 times that those DLP projectors offer which should in theory mean a less sharp image but the reality is that at normal viewing distance you can’t see any difference but what is instantly obvious is it’s superior contrast and colours.

This will me than likely be my next projector replacing my px747 but they are taking forever to release it. Someone else in here mentioned waiting till Sept for cedia and at this point that may be the right move.
