I get that. I'm just trying to decide what route I want to go. If this was out now I'd probably buy it and plan on using it for a 4-5 years at least. But I'm also considering something like the new BenQ for less to get my initial cost down as I am starting from a blank slate and then planning on upgrading a little sooner when native 4k stuff is more relealized. If we have to wait till September Epson will be out for me due to lack of full 18gbps hdmi on current models.

Don’t understand why you lot across the pond are haven’t to wait for the 6050ub/TW9400 that we already have. I can’t advise what’s best for you but having had this for about 6-7 weeks now it’s easily the best value sub £3K on sale and surprisingly currently one of the best if not the best at HDR.

I'm waiting on this one to replace a panasonic pt-ae8000. I agree that if something even better arrives in september that i might just want to wait until then as well.

I'm also hoping someone who has had the panasonic and this new epson 9400, and can provide some opinions about the difference and whether this is all the upgrade i would need for several years.

No home cinema tech is particularly future proof. Though it ticks almost all of the current formats. 4k pixel shifting, HDR10 and HLG.
Dolby Vision probably won't come to projectors and HDR10+ is very limited.

The Epson is bright, does good 3D, good blacks and contrast and throws a great 1080p image too.

DLP 4x pixel shifters are a touch sharper, but colours are iffy, struggling to do Rec.709. HDR is generally hit and miss.

JVCs and Sony natives are 2-3x the cost and up and still the Epson gets compared to them!

I don't know of anything in the price range that gets close or will do for a while.... Native 4k would be nice and laser light, but i don't see either being at the Epsons price for a good few years.

I was just at a local AV store yesterday and my friend there said she thinks is will be late April to some time in June before it is released in the States. I was there checking out the 4050. I liked it, but want to wait and see what the new models will be offering.

Well the 5040/6040 came out in August of 2016 and the 4010/4050 came out in September of 2018. Let's hope it not that long.

I would have expected the 5050 to be released around the same time as the 4010. The 5040 is the same generation as the 4000 which was released mid 2017 I believe.

not sure I understand the delay especially with the power supply hardware design fail with the 5040. You think it would be cheaper to get them out of the supply chain asap.

When this projector was discussed LAST SUMMER I was 100% in. As soon as it came out this was the upgrade for me. 7 months later I'm now going to wait until CEDIA passes to see what else is announced first.

Is [email protected] possible with the new models?
I don't think it was with the old series, but I'm not sure.

There is a rebate offer on Canada market that has been extended from end of Feb to end of March. So I don't think that nothing will come up before April. Remember guys that the least reliable person to make the question about when this bloody thing will be released is the salesman. He wants to sell what he has in stock now and they will hide any potential information about a new product that he might have.

I want Panasonic to get back in the game. Release a native 4k home theater projector as full featured as our ae8000u with the same auto aspect ratio switching like we have now and they’d have a unique option again. Nobody else does auto zoom and focus for aspect ratio changes like our Panasonic that I know if. It’s a fantastic feature for us scope screen owners.

Panasonic still makes commercial projectors. I hold out hope they’ll get back into the home theater arena.

+1. It would put it awfully close to the JVC x790 and 1000 more than the current price of the 5040. I was expecting more like 2500-2700.

Early implementers should expect to pay a premium price for new products. The 5040UB's original msrp when first introduced was $2,999. After about 9 months on the market Epson reduced msrp to $2,699 and then more recently msrp was reduced to $2,299.

I'm not sure the 5050 is worth $1000 more than a 5040. It just a minor upgrade. I'm in a position with my current set-up that I can easily wait a little longer. So, I'm going to wait to see what Cedia 2019 brings. The 5050 technology is already almost a year old.

I agree except in this case it was released like 6 months ago. That's the real issue here the delay coming to the US makes it hard to justify that premium if it does in fact release at that price.
