BenQ W2700 / HT3550 Announcement and Owner’s Thread

Of course!

The only features that can’t coexist are the iris and the ‘smarteco’ lamp dimming. If one is on then the other will be off.

Yes, you would go through Benq but since I'm within the return window with Amazon I'd rather go through them because it's much faster and convenient.

I just purchased this from Amazon while it's out of stock. Is this place so tuned in that someone might have an idea of when Amazon will get more in stock?

They have been consistently replenishing their stock pretty quickly... should maybe ship out end of week/next week... no guarantees but it seems like availability is getting much better.

I know you can override DI no matter what through the remote button (which I think is a firmware bug or maybe it's by design . This is irrespective of it being greyed out in Menu (ex. during HDR).

Can anyone recommend a good ceiling mount for this? I need an extension likely as I have to take into account a ceiling fan. Ceiling is your standard apartment type ceiling but can figure out more specifics though I assume pulling something off the first listing on Amazon will meet my requirements.

TIA.

Welp my replacement is much worse with color banding and color issues very similar to the first one I purchased from BenQ directly. I’ll be sending this one back. It’s a bummer that they haven’t worked out all the QA issues but if you can get a good one then the projector is great.

I’ll be keeping the first one I received from Amazon. It’s perfect in every way except the small white horizontal line at the bottom I previously posted. Amazon is offering a 10% discount to keep it because they don’t have any replacements available. Eventually I’ll just get it replaced through Benq once they work out everything.

I have it connected to a 4K fire tv.
Netflix was showing 4K HDR content. I was messing around with the settings and suddenly Netflix is no longer showing 4K or HDR

When the 3550 searches source it says hdr10 so I assume it knows the fire tv is sending it 4K but Netflix doesn’t think so.

Is the hdr motion supposed to be off or low or what? I think I changed it and messed things up.

Thx

Just turn brilliant color on then off it'll go back to normal.
Hopefully firmware will fix all these little bugs.

Question Help: Netflix not showing 4K content on ht3550?

I have the ht3550 hooked up to a 4K fire tv stick. The projector recognizes the source as 2160p hdr10 4K but Netflix is showing only HD.
This happened after I was messing around with HDR and cinema settings. I reset the picture settings but Netflix is still not showing hdr or 4K for Amy show/movie.

Any ideas on what caused it and how to fix it. I tried turning everything offs and on but it’s not working.

Thx

Anyone know some good settings? I’m indecisive, if WCG has more color, why does it look more dull and greener?

Is anyone else getting slightly weird colors in HDR mode?

The colors I have a problem with are yellows and blues. Yellows lean way too red and have a mustard like coloring to them and blues are way too bright and overpowering. Almost like a neon effect. I've played around with color settings but it is hard to fix these colors without ruining the look of the other colors. Colors in SDR mode look great though.

My Optoma HD33 died on me a couple of days ago. It gave me PJ bliss for about 7 years. Only changed the bulb once. I put a meter on the lamp lead and it reads around 92v so I’m thinking the pj is good just the bulb went bad. Only about 200 hours on this one... However, when I changed the bulb last, the old one was still working...I put it back in and still no image.

Anyway, this led me to look to upgrade to a 4K. All my searches led me to the 3550. Now I’m scared to pull the trigger after reading all of the QC issues with this model.

Should I risk it and get the 3550 or go with the UHD50 which seems to be a winner.

Thoughts?

1st image is with WCG turned off, but to my actual eyes it looks more vibrante

2nd image WCG is on, but it looks more dull.

I don’t understand how this mode is supposed to have more colors?

Cool, I'm not a huge fan of the wcg. Just seems to have more pop etc with it off.
On certain movies such as BR2049 though it looks great.
Guess just something you have to get used to.

Sorry to hear that, was a great projector for 3D and had excellent Frame Interpolation. Hope my HD 8300 will still last me a while.

Contrast performance of the UHD 50 is probably worse than your old HD 33 - as the Digital Micromirror Devices decreased in size, so did contrast performance.

From everything I read about the BenQ HT 3550, I'm confident that you might consider it a worthy replacement of your HD 33, with the Optoma UHD 50 I'd have severe doubts.

After comparing tk800m and ht3550 side by side I realized that the ht3550 has more natural looking colors. Even my teen agreed.
And it is surprisingly bright enough for nature shows and sports even in a room with open windows.
Much much better than my w1070.

What if any changes should I make to the settings?
What is WCG?

I need to buy a motorized 110 screen. Any recommendations?

Thx

I’ve read this from a few members but this doesn’t work on my review sample. It does sometimes ‘confuse’ the menu but it doesn’t actually enable both features at the same time.

Yeah I’ve got one of the 3550s that allow both DI and EcoSmart to be enabled at the same time via the remote. It makes for an interesting effect for sure lol.

I'm also not very pleased by the performance of the HT3550.

I'm waiting for the announcement and the first tests of the real successor of the Tk800 later this year.

I didn't like the HT3550 when I first got it. The colors were off and muted, and the brightness was terrible. Once I got a replacement for it, it has been much better and meets the expectations that I had for this projector. The only issue is that the QA has been terrible for these at launch. If you're able to purchase another one, give it another shot. I ordered a replacement from Amazon and it was just as defective as the first one that I got. I ended up keeping my current one with a small issue a small row of "dead pixels" at a 10% discount.

How can I tell if my unit is defective?

Is there a test I can run to determine the lumen/color output?
