Do you focus the image after it warms up for 30 min? Does it change from there the next you let it warm up for 30 min?

I can finally join one of these owner's threads! Received my first ever projector yesterday and opened her up this morning. It will probably still be a couple more weeks until I get it installed since I don't want to break the rule of installing the projector before the theater is finished. The manufacturer date is July 2019. Being a recent manufactured unit, should it be a little less glitchy or is it a complete crap shoot and based on pure luck?

Well, i always need to refocus when i start it up!
Cus its sometimes more blurry to the left and sometimes more to the right but then its sharper in the opposite side!
I havent tried that you said but i can try not to do anything for 30 minutes and then dial in the focus!
Its quite annoying to suddenly see the text some minutes in a movie look blurry
But ive only used the projektor for a couple of hours so it might settle over time

Best regards mr HuxFlux

Only on certain goods Trump thought might upset people during the holiday season. Projectors are subject to a 10% tax starting 9/1.

Edit: Sorry I’m at work but you should be able to find the full list on ustr.gov. You may need to look up the HTS subheading for projectors separately.

Edit edit: thanks to my contact for the assist. HTS code is 8528.69.45. You can find the list here: https://ustr.gov/about-us/policy-off...steps-proposed

It's like Thor with "Thanos", we don't say that name here.

I pulled the trigger on a 3550 today (will get it Friday) in part due to the ridiculous price increase, I have the HT2550 here already (along with my HW45es) so I plan to do some direct comparisons.

I considered ordering a 5550 as well but that would be as a replacement for my 45es and I know it's not going to compete regarding contrast/black level so I will wait to see what the next round of PJ's have to offer.

Well... I had an issue with 1.06 HT2550. Also the HDMI port one only showed static after the update. I contacted BenQ about it. They were quick to act on the issue.

Benq had me overnight the projector back to them (at their expense) but to my luck they have no more HT2550 projectors In inventor. They are switch them now for HT3550 for free (which was overnighted to me). Props to the awesome customer service and making this right.

So now Im here.... Joining this thread

Does anyone use D. Cinima setting? It just seems dark.

Just a heads up,

For those considering ordering the HT3550 from Amazon... DON'T.

They say it's in stock but I just had my order process through 5 different suppliers and charged 5 times (have to wait 3-5 days for a cancel to clear the authorizations).

It looks as if they are having a hard time getting this unit and will keep submitting a payment authorization every time they switch vendors (after discovering a vendor does not actually have it available to ship).

It would seem to me that they should verify on their end that they can actually ship the unit before they seek payment authorization, or am I expecting too much.

You can try Best Buy. They say it won't be delivered until the 28th, but on both my orders I was told the same thing (2 weeks) and they were delivered within a few days. I did delivery to store since nobody would be home. I returned my first one (defective), second projector is perfect.

Thank you for the suggestion, the issue with Best Buy (should I decide to return it) is that they have a 15% restock fee ($225) once opened.

Amazon claims to have found one to ship but I have no shipping confirmation and they could not tell me where it was shipping from (it's supposed to arrive tomorrow, not looking very likely).

If they don't get it shipped today I am going to cancel the order and move on.

Ahhhh yes. The dreaded restocking fee. That’s actually the reason I did an exchange instead of return on my first 3550. I actually tried to sell the new unit sealed but found no takers so I gave the new unit a try and it was much better than the first.

Did you buy from Amazon Prime or did you choose from other sellers and pick a non-prime option (or if prime was sold out it may show a non-prime option by default)

Hi all, I haven't seen this posted but wonder if others w/ HT3550 also see this artifact at bottom (the red light bar - sometimes just black) on the projected screen? - when projector mounted on ceiling.

I've tried different cables and same cable w/ my old 1085st has no problem. Also going direct to projector from source makes no difference.

I also noticed (on the 2nd picture) there appear to be a notch of the bottom of the lens, wonder if that's what's causing it.

Just wanted to check before the unit goes back for RMA.

Thanks!

I don't have mine yet but that has to be a defect (if it's always present, be it black or red).

Best of luck !

I hope I win the 3550 lottery but any little flaw and back it goes, I have done the multiple samples thing far too many times.

Don't look for the defects. If you're happy with it, be happy with it, because what you get as a replacement may be worse.

Does anyone know that if the projector gets reset do we lose all the pre calibrations that were done at the factory?

It shouldn't lose that when factory resetting it. In fact, it does not even lose any modification made in the different modes by the user (if any). In the manual I think I recall reading all the things it maintains with the config reset.

That’s odd. I mean that’s great you don’t lose the calibration. But then what’s the point of the Mode reset under the picture settings or the reset under the system tab in the menu.

hxxps://youtu.be/FFmk0qVqxwY

Regarding this problem again. I've contacted BenQ Europe and this is what they said (Translated by me):

"When the processing needed to show a 4K signal takes place, our W2700 will, at the same time, detect the internal temperature to control the pixel shift; once the device reaches a certain level of temperature, the projector needs to re-calibrate to keep showing a 4K resolution. This "re-calibration" takes between 0.5 and 1 second, resulting in the observed phenomenon. During this time the resolution will be 1080p temporarily until the re-calibration process has ended, that it's when the resolution will be 4K again."

Makes sense? at least for me I think it does. I noticed it more when my fan was acting up and had to use the "high altitude mode" to make it normal again. This trick has been mentioned in this thread before also, because sometimes is like the non altitude mode becomes the high altitude one and the other way around... something that I hope is fixed in following firmwares... anyway, the thing is I factory resetted it, and since then the fan came back to normal and so the pixel shift. At least I been observing it very closely in the last 3 days and noticed it maybe just once. Soo ¯\_()_/¯

I hope they keep polishing some of those things in following updates though.

The Mode reset yes. It resets the mode config to factory defaults, but you don't lose the calibration. I was talking about the system wide reset

Got ya. So the mode resent will just remove any user changes that were made to the projector after it was calibrated. I was just kinda worried that after I reset the mode that I also may have lost the calibration lol.

Question Brand new HT3550 - fan making chirping noise?

Hi - just had the projector delivered 1 hour ago. Installed it, ran through some menus, went upstairs and when I came back down the projector was making a "chirping" noise. I assume this is not normal
Is there a break in period? Is it something I could have done installing it? I took a video of it

Thanks!

Just FYI, don't put too much stock in the factory calibration - I believe all the projectors ship with the same CMS adjustments. Each unit and each environment is different.

Noted. That’s good advice. Thank you!

Still working my way through this entire thread, but was hoping I might solicit some advice on how to proceed with what is now my 3rd HT3550...

First Unit - Unfortunately at this point I hadn't found this thread and didn't note the HW revision on this unit (though the focus dial did have a pin on it which make me believe it was at least a somewhat newer unit) . Overall it looked very good to me, except for some rather extreme focus issues. Upper left and lower right corners were very fuzzy compared to the rest of the image, and appeared to be out of focus in 'opposite' directions. ie dialing in one corner made the opposite corner worse. Colors looked good to me, especially in HDR, though being my first projector there may be issues I'm not aware of / looking for that I've missed. Focus was bad enough that I contacted support, who was very helpful and immediately issued an RMA

Second Unit - Clearly a refurb, including a sticker labeling it as such. HW revision 1-101. Upon mounting this unit, I could tell immediately the focus issues were gone. Great clarity across the entire image. Unfortunately, as I started to run some test content through it, I saw issues getting stuck with a split image. Typically could cycle picture modes or stop/start HDR content to clear the issue, but annoying none the less. Also nothing concrete, but felt like the colors didn't pop in quite the same way. I'd discovered this thread by then however so maybe it was all in my head. Updating FW seemed to reduce the frequency of the split screen issue, but did not eliminate it. Unit was also significantly louder than the first, both the fan as well as the internals especially when shifting in/out of 4k/HDR. Another RMA was issued.

Third Unit - This one arrived this morning, HW 2-103. Box wasn't obviously reused, and no refurb sticker on this unit, no obvious signs it's a refurb, so that's promising. Got it mounted and the first thing I noticed is that I really had to move the vertical shift to the extreme to get everything aligned on the screen despite using the same mount with everything in the same position. It's ceiling mounted and I was just barely able to get the image low enough to fit on the screen. Not sure if this means anything but figured it's worth pointing out. After getting alignment dialed back in, it became apparent that there are again some slight focus issues in the upper left / lower right corners. Much less severe than the original unit, but certainly worse than the first replacement. Colors seemed more in line with the original unit to me. Not much time with it yet but so far noise levels seem more in line with the first unit as well.

So where I'm stuck now is how to proceed. While still showing some focus issues, its probably something I could live with. That said, after seeing just how clear and sharp the second unit was, it's hard to not notice it. I could roll the dice again and see what happens with another RMA, but I feel like I'm as likely to get another problematic and potentially worse unit than I am to see an improvement. It's also becoming something of a hassle constantly unmounting / remounting units on a weekly basis. Is the fact that both newer revisions I've received showed similar focus issues as compared to the older revision simply a coincidence or something inherent to the newer revisions? Should I see if support is willing to let me hold off a few months while they hopefully sort out these issues and try another RMA then? Any thoughts from folks who have been more closely involved with this projector for a while would be appreciated.
