@subacabra how far away do you sit from that 125" screen? Just wondering as I'm thinking about going 125" too. Those videos look fantastic and you remind me of myself playing Xbox One as far as gameplay lol

I'm almost tempted to try the HT3550 out and see how I like it although I saw some RBE on a TK800 I looked at yesterday

Postponed until 11/27. I’ll update here and on my review thread as information comes available.

Were you bothered by the RBE on the TK800? Reason I ask is I can see RBE fairly easily if I move my eyes rapidly across the screen or sit WAY too close (like a couple feet from the screen). But under normal circumstances I don’t notice it and it’s far from a bother. For the record: my eyes are pickier than most. A lifetime of video games has caused me to be very sensitive to motion artifacts.

Wait a minute, what about 1.0.3? I'm still in 1.0.2.

What I missed?

Thanks

It was not as bad as my old optoma and when he showed me the tk800, we were standing about 5ft away from the wall. Also the wall was light gray paint if it matters. Man I really want to accept the HT3550 lol but idk... thats why I started leaning towards the 5040ub although one thing that bothers me is that its like a half 4k with its bandwidth.

Hey momofx, I sit about 11.5 feet from the screen. Very immersive and fun!

Yes it should have been better than your old Optoma. Until the advent of 4K, I don’t know that Optoma ever fielded a projector that wasn’t “2X”. As I mentioned in the other thread: all 4K quad shift DLPs are “4X”.

The HT3550 is unique in offering native 24Hz film support. If your are especially RBE sensitive it would make sense to run all of your sources at 60Hz (simply disable 24Hz playback). The reason for this is to make native 24Hz possible, BenQ slightly slows down the color wheel and DMD. For comparison, your old Optoma has an effective colorwheel speed of 120Hz. RGBRGB DLPs and ALL 4K quad shift DLPs run at 240Hz. The HT3550 is capable of running native 24Hz content at and ‘in between’ 192Hz. If you disable 24Hz content the Ht3550 will return to a color wheel speed of 240Hz.

Do any of the online retailers allow returns? I think the only way I'm going to be able to make up my mind is to buy a few of these projectors and see which one I like best.

@sage11x what difference will I see or what does it affect disabling 24Hz?

Like every other 4K DLP it will engage a 3:2 pulldown. This could introduce telecine judder but I find most people don’t notice this. Mostly just die hard film nuts like myself...

Looks like it is out of stock on the 2 main websites.

Though I see someone took you all advice and is selling a used one on eBay lol. Kinda a lot but then again the retail price did go up. So I guess not then.

Don’t worry so much. Many many are happy and just don’t post as much as people with issues.

Mine has had no problem since I got it end of August from Amazon. Replaced a 1070 perfectly for me.

HDR using the same inputs en cables works on my Samsung TV. I tried inputs directly in the projector but also no luck. I already sent one unit back but my new unit has the same problem. Not sure what is causing this? Thanks in advance.

Images shows up likes this on the PS4 and Shield. Here I have it connected through a 4k HDR capable splitter.

Make sure your hdmi input mode isn’t in “limited mode”

When I updated firmware mine got put in that mode and everything had a purple tint rather than your green tint but it could be the same issue.

Changing it from limited to auto fixed it.

Looks like more are trying to take advantage of people on eBay with charging too much, in my opinion, for a used BenQ HT3550 projector.

Does anyone know if B&H Photo and Video price match with Amazon ? I mean projector sold directly from Amazon LLC not third party sellers.

Hello

@sage11x
Is there any way to add a custom resolution in the firmware ? (let me explain ^^).
I don't like the cinemaster motion smoother of the Benq (micro lags at scenes change and sometime not smooth enought - the first hobbit movie for exemple).
So use ATM the projector with a computer as HTC and use "smooth video project" to improve motion smoothness.
As "smooth video project" working great with frame rate * 2 (instead of 23.976 * 5 \ 2 to get 59.94hz), i use a custom refresh rate of 47,952hz (23.96*2) created in my nvidia driver.
This working perfectly but as it's a custom nvidia driver resolution it's limitating auto switching with most video player.

So long story short, as the benq W2700 working great in 47.952hz and in 48hz (tested both because i own some pure 24hz bluray), is there any chance to get 4k and FHD (both 47.952hz and 48hz) added to firmware as official resolution ?

Thanks for reading me ^^

OT but... YT removed one of my videos the other day and did not even bother to notify me as to why they did it.

Don't believe it's stupid youtube.
Lots of older folks on av forums, so it's likely someone reported your video.

Gotta admit though, it was surely nsfw

Do you guys, owners of this projector recommend it over Optoma UHD380X? Could you put some brief reasons as well?

Benq has a RGBRGB color wheel (better colors) and the Optoma does not.
Benq has an active iris for better blacks.
Benq can do 120Hz at 1080p, although I understand that the Optoma can be "hacked" to do the same(?).
Benq has a good DMT.
Benq covers 96% of DCI P3 with the filter.
Benq has 24p mode.

Read more about 24p in this review:
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/68-di...l#post57659896

Optoma is brighter.
Optoma might be sharper.
Unclear if Optoma has a 24p mode.
Unclear how much of DCI P3 the Optoma covers.

The Benq is a dark room projector, the Optoma is more a sports/ambient light unit.

What is the fabric of the screen and what diagonal?

Im planning to buy something at size of 133" with regular fabric which I can find in dutch market.

Afaik OptomaUHD51/52/380X uses RGBRGB colour wheel as well.I red somewhere that DCI P3 coverage was something like ~80%. It promotes 24p as well.

I've bought a UHD51 but I'm experiencing a noise and going to return it back i guess. I'm thinking to put something more and now I am between UHD380x & W2700. BTW I have a dedicated dark room for playing movies but still would like to able to use it in daylight sometimes.

The UHD51 does have a RGBRGB color wheel, but the 51ALV/52ALV/380X do not.

Users with screens that size are happy with the W2700, but using the DCI P3 filter cuts the brightness by 30-40%, so not going to work for 133", maybe 100".

If the unit has a buzz send it back and get a new one. The actuator can be noisy on any projector, but there have been more problems reported on Optomas.

Is the UHD51 bright enough for daytime use?

LE: the Optomas claim they can accept 24p, which I think is different than what the W2700 is doing.

UHD51 is not bright enough but UHD380X will be ok i guess (3500AL). When I put €200 more I can get UHD380X or W2700 with cash back discount.

PS: I don't know exactly if the unit is really noisy or it is just regular noise due actuator like you said? Here is my units video

What I missed?
Looks as if Benq removed firmware 1.0.3 from their website because it caused problems.
Hence v1.0.4 will be the next proper upgrade from v1.0.2

PS: I don't know exactly if the unit is really noisy or it is just regular noise due actuator like you said? Here is my units video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gYGkxWnMO4
From the video it sounds loud, but I'm not there in person. It probably should not make that noise.
This issue has been reported on the Optoma threads, but I don't know if this is the normal sound or there is something wrong with the unit.

The only way that thees projectors get close to it's advertised lumen rating is by using the Bright Preset. This has a green tint.

From the reviews:
https://www.projectorcentral.com/Opt...51A-review.htm
https://www.projectorcentral.com/Opt...ALV-review.htm

The brightest mode shows a green bias, as with most projectors. However, it is minor enough even with default settings to show with only some images. Most people will find Bright useable at least occasionally in rooms that require higher brightness for daytime viewing. Adjusting settings will also deliver more neutral color. Note that changing the brilliant color setting—usually the easiest way to improve color in the brightest mode—has no effect. Optoma says this is intentional, to ensure that Bright mode is always bright.

Otherwise these are the lumen values:

The W2700 is less bright than the UHD51:

Why not get the Epson HC3800 (TW7100 EU)?
And a grey or ALR screen for daytime viewing?
How much light is in the room during the day?
