thanks ... just see on any of the sports on demand channels if there's any 4k NHL games you can play.

So im running my second unit here. First unit had XPR chip making horrible sound everytime I switched hdmi source from the amp. Second unit is far more worse. XPR chip is ranting all the time, only silence mode kills it. Like in this vid
Should have kept the first one..

Now im waiting tk850 or uhd42. Noticed that the emerging summer sun is blasting way more light than I originally thought. Few extra lumens couldnt hurt, I hope.

I have had two different w2700 units and they both had one same feature. First of all I know this is nitpicking but kinda disturbing once U detect it. When the room is silent or the movie has a silent scene and U are near to the projector. U can hear a small ”beep” sound. Of course when the home theater is rocking U wont hear it. But when the room is silent, U can totally hear the beep.
I believe every unit has this and I can live with it. Just something I wanted to share

Although I love the pic mine throws out it is noisy as hell. Does anyone have any mods or tricks they used to mitigate the noise?

Check your Sharpness and 4k pixel enhancement settings. Turning those down may help.

It also depends on the source, for example, 4k Blu rays that have a 4k DI (like Gemini man) are extremely clean, but 4k streams (like Ozark) have a lot of noise.

When I say noisy I meant audibly the projector is noisy. The pq is very clean. I agree for movies with grain turning down the pixel enhancer helps alot.

That is ridiculously loud.

Popping in to post for reference in case anyone else runs into the same issue ... developed a brown discoloration in the top right hand corner of my projected image. Does not look like a dust blob to me, when i reached out to Benq customer service they immediately agreed and stated that is looked like a lens issue. 1.3k hours on the unit, August manufacture date. Applied for an advanced replacement yesterday.

I found I could fix my lip sync issues by changing D. Cinema to Cinema. Other setting adjustments also throw off the lip sync.

I am so undecided between this model and the UHD51. I love the total package that is the HT3550, but i'm really put off buying it due to the many reports of loud(er) fan noise levels and especially the XPR buzzing that seems to plague the unit.

Does everyone experience the XPR buzzing, or is it a lottery wrt which unit you end up getting....

Thanks

The fan on the Benq is silent if it's in Eco lamp. What is the size and type of fabric of the screen? Or what is the seating distance and room like (walls, ambient light) if you haven't purchased the screen yet?

As for the XPR noise, can happen on any projector. Even non DLP units can have a similar issue.

The first one I bought from Amazon it buzzed. The second one I got factory refurbished by Benq from Benq no issues so far.

Thanks - so do you think that recently manufactured units might be less prone to this issue ?

The fan is designed for cooling and ventilation for the projector, so when the fans speed up, it is normal to hear the sound of its operation. However, if the noise gets louder and it kind of interrupting the viewing, suggest to contact BenQ to verify if it’s something else to cause the noise.

Sorry if this is not the right thread, but has anyone else had the problem shown in the pictures below? I am getting different gamma values on each side of the screen, split directly down the middle. If I change gamma, it will go away for a minute, but then it comes back. I have update firmware, but it hasn't made a difference.

I don't have this PJ - even though I'm looking to get it, but issues like this makes me doubt whether i should. Apparently it's the infamous split screen issue that plagues this PJ, and to fix - you apparently have to toggle the Wide Color Gama on and off. Some say it works- others say it keeps happening even if this is done, so YMMV.

Hopefully someone can help me with some opinions. I've been doing a lot of projector research for my next upgrade and I'm torn between the Optoma UHD52ALV and the BenQ HT3550.

I currently have the Optoma UHD51ALV and was my first 4K after having the Epson 5030. I love the 4K image of the Optoma but heard the BenQ has better for blacks and dark scenes with the iris which has now become my biggest complain with the UHD51ALV.

My settings were all calibrated and I don't have issues with most images but I've noticed with specific movies (Terminator: Dark Fate 4K) the image is super dark in places. Almost so dark that it's hard to see. I notice in other movies but not as often or bad - but definitely noticeable. I'm in a completely light controlled room with dark grey walls with a black wall behind the screen and a white ceiling.

I'm drawn to the UHD52ALV for the additional lumens and what I've read is superb 3D. But being my issue is dark scenes, the BenQ seems better for contrast and dark scenes in general because of the iris, though I'm worried that the decrease in lumens - even from what I have now - will make all images noticeably darker and be bad for 3D. I enjoy 3D enough that I still want the option, but 4K is my primary method of watching.

The only issue I can see that my UHD51 has is the lamp life but I'm only at 2587 total hours split between Bright 862 hours and Dynamic 1742 hours and that seems too low to be causing darkness issues to that degree.

Ideally I'd like to be able to just compare visually compare myself, but not as easy to do these days.

Thoughts?

Seating distance?

Do the black issues happen with SDR as well?
Try watching some dark material with SDR and see how it behaves.

Anyone know what 4K Motion Enhancer actually does?
That does indeed help, but also introduces all the negatives. Inconsistent interpolation from scene to scene and very noticeable delay. I can sync the audio in AVR, but movies are not the only thing I do, so the delay is a no go for me :-(

From this forum, it seems that a call to BenQ will result in a replacement unit being sent out, ASAP.

I've switched off the HDR on the player and watched the same scenes and it is a bit lighter, but the image also appears to be washed out a bit. It's a trade off to achieve the extra lightness. I'm about 8 feet away from a 120inch screen. I don't feel like the bright scenes are dim in any way, so it's not just a dim picture overall - at least not noticeably so.

I've also swapped out my Xbox One X for a Sony X700. The image did look noticably nicer than on the Xbox and the scene felt like it had more depth, but not brighter.

No, I meant watch SDR video with dark scenes, not turn off HDR.

What is the type of fabric of the screen.

Upgrading firmware to 105 made a significant improvement to the picture quality. Only issue that still bugs me is the blur like ghost image that is created in fast moving scenes. Which setting improves this and what is the drawback to adjusting the setting that I should watch for?

What is the type of fabric of the screen.
I watched the Blu-ray of the same movie so I could use an exact comparison and it wasn't as dark and I was able to see more of the image. It was still very dark, but less so than than the 4K version and I know in general, 4K is darker. The screen is a Elite Screens Manual Series 12034 PullDown Projector Screen and per their website it's a MaxWhite 2 material. Thanks
