DunMunro, thank you for your input. Optoma is not widely available here. Very limited selection. So, I'd better stick with BenQ.

Projector: BenQ TK800M. A/V Receiver: Denon X7200WA. Speakers: 7.2.4 Definitive Technology BP9060 (Left & Right), DefTech CS-9060 (Center), DefTech SR-8080BP (Surround), DefTech ProMonitor 1000 (Top Front & Top Rear), Jamo S428 (Rear). Media Sources: Windows 10, Nvidia Titan X (Maxwell), PotPlayer+madVR+LAVFilters, PowerDVD 19 for BD3D. Xbox360 for Kinect and couch-coop. Wii with motion accessories for fun. PS4 is getting dust.

That's what I want to avoid, because of how top mount Atmos speakers are setup. Unfortunately I can't attach pictures or SketchUp model, how it looks like, yet

So no grey screens. Grey screens would also do little to help with room reflections, it depends on the room configuration.
Thank you for a reply noob00224. So, even high brightness projector would not compensate for grey screen in 3D?

For 3D brightness is required and with projectors in this price range I would not like to get less brightness, YMMV.

You can't decide on a screen diagonal beforehand. 100" from 3m is small IMO.

If you're fine with the 50-60ms get the W2700.

I didn't quite get why I can't decide beforehand... You mean I can't decide until I feel the size with my own eyes in my room?

Attached is Projector Calculator from BenQ web-site with my room dimensions, throw distance and 100" diagonal.

Anyone have an issue with a blank screen after starting up?

Most times I start up the projector it doesn't display the hdmi source (roku) I have plugged in. It also won't display any benq menus.I have to unplug and re-plug the hdmi cable for anything to show on the screen. After I do that, it works fine, but it's annoying to have to fiddle with the cable when turning on the projector.

I've got TK800M. I will switch to the other thread, but just few final words here.

I think I regret now (from my first impressions at least) that I didn't notice your advise and didn't go for W2700. Because it's my first projector ever, I can't compare, so I was following numerous high score reviews from the internet. But I didn't expect that it will be SO bright. I can easily read a book that's how TK800M illuminates my room in the night. No cinema experience at all. Actually, it's even hurting my eyes with all that brightness, I even tried to put sunglasses on, heh. It is 90" diagonal from 3 m (10 ft) viewing distance.

I'm watching, playing mostly in the evening and night, after the work. And during day it is mostly news from internet, which I'm mostly listening than viewing anyway.

I'll try to exchange it for W2700 (HT3550) from my retailer.

The lag is the TK800M is about 40ms. How is it for your applications?

The lag is fine. Actually, it should be better, as my TV lag was measured at 50-60ms. I played BF1 and it was good. Anyway I'm not playing competitive FPS. Didn't play or watched movies much though, as I didn't receive fiber optic RUIPRO HDMI cable yet in order to connect my sound system. As of now my PC is connected directly to PJ through short HDMI cable with sound coming from PJ speakers. Without sound system connected no serious gaming or movie watching, heh.

You need better HDMI cables. When I say better, I don't mean more expensive.

Finally, got my refurbished HT3550 that I bought from eBay to replace my HT3050. It took it 3 weeks to arrive to me as I stay outside the US.
The difference in picture quality was night and day. heck my 8 and 6 year old sons could literarily tell the difference in brightness. perhaps maybe it was because of the aged and knock off lamp i bought and been using with the HT3050 for about 2 years now
I have been silently downloading and amassing 4k remux files over the years in anticipation of getting the HT3550. popped in planet earth II through nvidia/plex and the HDR10 kicked in. The picture quality was so great I was left in awe.
played some fifa 20 through the xbox one X and it was impressive. not that I felt any lag anyways as i don't play competitive usually just kick offs
Having said all this, I am still on the look out for any faults/misbehaviors from the projector as have been reported here frequently and there are non for now....

The refurbished projector came with firmware version 1.05 with 4 hours of lamp use

Unhappy Green Screen

All of the sudden I am getting this when I turn on the PJ most of the time now. I fix it by changing the input and then back. It's not permanent, but annoying AF. Anyone know why this is happening and a permanent fix for it?

Hello everyone,

I have this projector for more than one year and I just noted some color diference or degradation when switching from 1080P to 4K in my Xfinity Device.

I got the 4K Xfinity device since I got the Projector and I always had been used on 4k, but in the last week the device os setting in 1080P and the other day I noted the color difference, please see the attached pictures.

I really like the one with color as looks like more realistic.

Is there any way to fix that in the projector? Or maybe is some settings in the receiver "Marantz SR6012" also attached the video settings from the receiver just in case

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply.

I don't think it's an issue with the HDMI cable or seating. What I have to do is change it input with the source button and back and all is normal again. Sure, I can keep on doing that, but it's not normal and inconvenient.

Not sure if the green screen is an indication of some kind of imminent hardware failure.

If you don't want try it is up to you, it's what I would do. When changing inputs your causing a new HDMI hand shake so if the connection is a little flaky it may work the second time. You didn't answer my question about the menu. If the cable isn't the issue I would do a factory reset. Next is warranty with BenQ.

anyone using the 3550 for xbox one x? I just got one and got it hooked up to my sony 940e and 4K HDR gaming is wonderful. But I'd eventually also like to game on a 4K projector since I plan to get xbox series X AND PS5. And are there any other projectors that are in this price range now that are better? Just getting ready for next gen and want to make the best choice for projector screen 4K gaming!! The advantage to this is I can literally take down my 3050 and put this one on the exact same mount, no paying a pro to remount a new projector in a new location!!

Upstairs - Sony 75x940e: soundbar - Klipsch R-20B: game system - XBOX One X
Basement - BenQ HT3050: screen - Elite 125" motorized ATS: speakers - RF-7IIx2, RC-64II, RS-41IIx2, RS-42IIx2, AVR Denon x4000 -- subs PC-12NSD + RW12D: game system - PS5
Bedroom - LG 65eg9600: soundbar - LG SH3K

Can you show some pictures of 4K HDR gaming? I have a HT2050A. Eventually I think I will do the same thing like you for my PS4 (or new PS5 if my budget can be “approved” lol)

I am. I have a 65" Sony 900e that I use every day for gaming, as well as my HT3550. It's a pleasure on both. Xbox One X, def getting the series x as well.

My replacement has developed the split image issue. It will pop up for a second than disappear. It is intermittent but very distracting when it occurs. Has anyone found a fix for it? I am on the most recent firmware.

There is no issue. Benq know this bug and can't fix it since 1 year.
I did 3 RMA and 3 different units with the same Split screen.
I couldn't keep this projector with these problem.
After 1 year, they accept my return of my ht3550 and they refund me.

Would the W2700 (HT3550) be worth a 400 dollar (360 euro) premium over the W1720? (v2 of the W2550)
I'm doubting between the two.

I've actually seen your videos when I searched this projector 4k gaming lol. I won't need one til November when the Xbox Series X hits. I'm really hoping it dips below $1500 toward $1k but I've not seen it in that ballpark yet.
