Thanks for the link. Do a review and score a gift card to buy some 4K UHD Blu Rays to feed to that shiny, new HT3550. This projector deal gets better by the day!

oh nice, I'll hold off for that review then... take your time, don't feel rushed by all of us I'd rather get a good quality detailed review then a rushed one!

Oh, didn't realize the TK800 was going to have a successor, that's fantastic! I was really hoping to get a 4k projector by April (Game of Thrones premiere)... so I might not be able to wait

The HT3550 is right around 55ms so we will have to wait and see what the 2nd gen tk800 yields.
I'm actually not a huge gamer, but I do like 18Gbps/60hz when it comes to using a projector as my computer screen (fluid mouse movements, video editing, etc).... weird I know, but even movement in 60hz (vs 30hz) is something I notice.

Thanks again for all the help scotty, I wish forums had a "give this guy a couple bucks" button

I cannot find any US sites taking pre-orders for the HT3550. Has anyone found any good stores to pre-order from?

Are we assuming that amazon.com will adjust the price?

Thanks so much!

Per @scottyroo they will be adjusting their price. I'm waiting to see some reviews, so hopefully by that time, Amazon will have adjusted their price.

$75 from benq for a review. That just made this even easier to make the decision to purchase atleast once somebody decides to correct their price. Can’t believe they are doing any incentives this early. Essentially brings the price to $1425. To think 2 months ago I was about to pull the trigger on an $1800 projector that diddnt have such a good color space or any iris.

As if confirmation bias isn't bad enough already now Benq is going to pay individuals for their reviews?!

Marking 101

From a business stand-point, it's smart. You get lots of people that have been waiting, excited, give a (most likely) positive review.
From a consumer stand-point, it's smart. Consumers who are 1st in line now get a discount, making them even happier.

Sure it'll create some bias, but that's the nature of marketing. Just like Influencers, just like discounts for Yelp/FB reviews, Referral codes, etc.

It's not just this projector. Thave have other amounts to review others as well. I plan on doing it for the 2050a I purchased less than a year ago if I can. $50.

Speaking personally, I wouldn't give a substantively better review of a projector I decided to pay 1500 for and keep and use for years just because of a gift certificate. A large number of reviews on retailer sites are fake/paid/biased anyway so people are on guard against that to a certain degree. A somewhat detailed user review, with a subjective conclusion, from someone who chose and bought and paid for a projector is something I find useful and I don't think a $75 gift certificate to encourage people to leave reviews is that big a deal. Obviously it would a make one feel a bit grateful but if you mentioned it in the review as being part of a good deal then I thinks it's fine.

Reviews from people who get the whole thing entirely free to keep forever are a different matter and I think those have to be viewed very critically, because why not give a great review of something free in order to get more free stuff? Or even just in exchange for one free thing. But even $1425 is still a big investment and I don't think you could buy a good review of something that costly for a $75 gift certificate.

Jeez... it’s getting salty around here!

I’m almost home. Review is inbound.

What to do if you find yourself stuck with no hope of rescue:
Consider yourself lucky that life has been good to you so far. Alternatively, if life hasn't been good to you so far, which given your present circumstances seems to be more likely, consider yourself lucky that it won't be troubling you much longer...

Does benq have an upgrade/ trade in program for customers who jumped in with 2550?

I see they have a trade in for 2550. But will they offer a from 2550?

They are paying to have an owner DO a review, not if they do a GOOD review. There is a line, however thin it may be! ;o)

I know the 3550 isn’t the only qualifying product, but it is the latest/greatest and likely the catalyst for reviews. I suspect this is a sure bet and Benq is convinced they created a category killer in the 3550. I would expect the 3550 to do for 4K what the W1070 did for 1080P. Every issue owners and reviewers raised in 2018 about first gen .47 DMD product has been addressed in the 3550 down to user upgradeable firmware. That alone is huge! I can’t tell you how many times I was ready to push the Buy Now button on a 51A or 2550. There were too many buts...not any more, at least based upon the feature set and preliminary impressions.

Would you sell your soul for $75? I guess some would, most won't. I think it starts to get iffy for most people if they give you something for free but I would hope most would take it under the condition that they are still free to say what they please. Either way, the closer to free one gets, the more I begin to not trust the review. Amazon was a good source for reviews at one time but now it's riddled with people that either don't announce that they got something for free or if they do announce, they give it a glowing review. I normally ignore the 1 and 5 star reviews. The meat of most reviews is in between (2, 3 or 4 stars) and where you are closer to the truth.

One thing for sure, I came to this thread (and to this forum) to learn and I continue to get a better understanding from most here. We're all smart enough to cut through what's PR, marketing and reality to a large extent. At the end of the day, we'll all make decisions that make sense for us. I for one look forward to the reviews, here and from the so called professionals.

I'm already biased. I'm already gonna give it a 5 star as long as it's as good as scottyroo and sage say it is.

For Audio and Video, I come to this forum for reviews and not those on sites that are controlled to some degree. I need to start finding forums for other items such as appliances. No matter if it's the cheapest or most expensive, or glowing reviews on the Big Box Store site, I get junk. Every time. LOL.

Regarding Amazon reviews, or any really, I do pay attention to the 1 stars. I typically look to see if the 1 and 2 stars are for the same issues. When I see an item have several 1-2 stars and they are predominantly for the same issues, then I count that as a risk. Sort of like the Epson 5040UB with the Power Supply problems. Many haven't had the issue, but lots have. I'd see several 1 star reviews about a power supply failing, I wouldn't risk it.

I will 100% agree to this for the small price of sending me a UHD 60 or 65.

Tongue in cheek comment aside I don’t have the UHD60 or UHD65 to compare head to head with. I know Chris Majestec who runs the Majestechs channel on YouTube likes the optomas and is reviewing the HT3550 right now. Maybe he can do that?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all the insight that you've both given to date and it's sufficient enough for most to know that this will be something special but I feel like we were strung along for naught. I'm sure more professional reviews are just days out.

Not too many decisions in life can't wait just one more day, but I guess buying a new projector must be right up there.

So some news on the $$ for review program from my BenQ contact.

About 18 months ago BenQ started this program for end-user engagement program. Per BenQ it was designed for current product improvement and also served as a feedback forum for new product development. Unfortunately some of the uber humongous online retailers consider this type of activity to be in violation of their review policy. BenQ has decided to stop this program starting in March so this program won’t be available for the HT3550.
