I'll be moving from a 4K passive 3D set, and I've been quite spoiled by the feather-light glasses. Any recommendations for a pair of comfortable 3D glasses to go with this projector?

Some photos of my space for those wondering about brightness. My basement gets a lot of ambient light and made daytime viewing with my HT2050 nearly impossible. Overall, the HT3550 is a HUGE improvement for daytime viewing. For reference, the projector was in Cinema mode and I have an elite screens Cinegrey screen (1.0 gain)

Thanks Sholzer for the info and the pic. Looks very good with all that light.

My HT is in my family room so there are windows but I have like 15% window tint on all my windows so it's worked out great for my older 1080p Epson 3500.

Have you tried HDR material to see if the light output is still adequate in your viewing space?

The brightness of the HT3550 appears adequate for non HDR, but is the drop in lumens output in such a well lit environment render a washed out image for HDR and 4k?

@sholzer

That doesn't seem right. HT2050 Cinema mode is 1255 lumens according to projector central. The HT3550 is 981 according to Kraine. And Sage has mention that the HT2050 is brighter than the HT3550.

Hi, does Vivid mode seem brighter than Cinema mode?

Are they giving any confirmation if they will ship it anytime soon? I see it being out of stock everywhere else.

Any idea how would HT3550 compare with HT8050? I know they both are in entirely different price ranges but Benq has ref 8050 on sale.

The ht2050 might not be having a new lamp. Even more likely the lamp might only be half bright.

@sage11x turned me on to the Bodnar. Im having way too much fun.

FWIW I’m measuring 58ms input lag on the HT3550. A full frame faster than @kraine .

Yeah, I think lamp life is the culprit here.

That being said here is the projector and mode I use almost all the time in my living room with a 120” 1.1 gain screen.

Occasionally when I’m watching a predominately dark movie I’ll set the lamp to standard. I’m not sure if the fact that its a UST helps, it’s still much better than I was expecting. In fact I nearly didn’t buy it because on paper it looked like it might not be bright enough. Brightness is probably the biggest advancement projectors have made in the last 5 years. I remember when I first got into the hobby a little over 3 years ago most projectors I looked at were measured well below a 1000 lumens.

Some how some way the HDR image on the HT3550 seems brighter than SDR. Auto tone mapping FTW.

Their top priority is taking care of the “mishap” folks like suba. That’s why they are taking on y he huge expense of overnighting these too all of the first batch folks.

2nd batch should be here from China next week

No HDR on 8050, no 3D. Didn’t receive favorable reviews because of that.

Yes but i heard that the 8050 did receive a firmware update , had to be sent to benq that it supports hdr and some other stuff, don't remember everything .

Check the slickdeal thread
" Update: Had to send mine in through RMA and they sent an overnight label. A week and a half later I get it back, but it's brand new and has HDR and 3D. The old one definitely did not. Total score!"

So if the auto tone mapping is as good as people are saying, is it that necessary to have a really good 4k blu ray player? I finally caved and just ordered the 3550!!!

I'm currently using my XBOX X. Was considering something really nice that's renowned for it's auto tone mapping, the Panasonic dmp-ub820. But considering the price of the thing ($500)!!! I'd rather not buy it if it's not going to really offer that much more in performance.

Do NOT spray air on anything else for that matter in your projector. You will get dust on the lens and have dust spots all over the image. You probably won't be able to get rid of them without sending it in to be cleaned.

The lens path is sealed, but dust can still get in. You can use an air filter in the room. Do not use compressed air.
Benq offers a service for cleaning projectors, can't remember exactly how much, $50 (?) but definitely under 100.

I'm hoping the HT3550 fairs better for dust than my HT1075 did. In three years I've had to open it up twice and use compressed air in the dlp assembly via a tiny access cover that you're not normally supposed to remove. Not exactly for the faint of heart but it got rid of the dust blobs. I'm not sure if my replacement HT3550 will be here today or not like Subacabra's. I got automated emails about it being issued but no tracking numbers. I'm very interested in testing the iris behavior to see if my first unit was just worse for some reason, especially after Kraine's review said it worked so well.

Yea I was actually surprised to see that much of a difference. I don't typically watch during the day time down there, it's pretty much only used for "movie nights." I had about 270 hours on my ht2050 bulb when I sold it and I was using a custom picture mode from recommendations on here, so that may have had something to do with the brightness as well.

Also thinking back, that picture may have been from youtube in HDR. I'll take some more photos today when the light is about the same in HDR, Cinema, and Vivid.

Definitely get a dedicated Blu Ray player. I got the Sony x700 on recommendation from @sage11x and it handles tone mapping much better than the Xbox I was using.

I'll do some wierd custom dust filter addon, to add around the projector . That should help with dust in the long run.

Thanks for the tip " No spraying air " XD.

I keep seeing mentions (in this thread) to the discrepancy of the actual measured brightness on the 3550 -

This sounds suspiciously like the difference between having the color filter engaged vs disengaged (for wide color gamut).

The 3550 seems to do about 1200-1300 with it off, outside of the "brightest" modes, and engaging the filter will easily drop that down to the 900's with it enabled.

Disclaimer: I don't own an HT3550, this is just speculation based on what I've seen so far.

What more or less can you expect in the HT5550 over the 3550?

Looks like HT5550 has 200 less lumens.

Better zooming and throw range.

100,000 for the 5550 vs 30,000 contrast ratio in the 3550.

A slightly better lens as well?

HT 3550 appears to be little quieter fan wise. According to projector central. And has about double the lag?

This is what I dug up from the PC site plus IIRC what I've read online about both.
How did we let this post slip by and not congratulate you for being post #2 ,000? How fitting.... 2,000 posts hit the day before final production units hit the street.
