A bit off topic but how do you think this projector will compare to the new Viewsonic 4k laser projector? That one seems really interesting, but may be too good to be true situation.

Hi I can't on the DI in smartECO mode, may I know which fw version running in your ht3550?

I turned it off and posted about the problem, then came back a couple of hours later to watch more TV. I tried switching back and forth between Normal and Smart Eco mode with DI on, and for an hour or so it didn't matter which mode the lamp was on, I was not seeing any weird flickering like I had before. It stayed pretty much steady 100% of the time. After an hour or so it was when the flickering would start and it was extremely minor and very rare. At this point it was really late so I went to bed. I'm wondering if maybe just having the projector on for extended periods of time is causing this. Maybe the projector is running too hot is the issue, or just something else. Thinking back about it, it did seem like the weird flickering darkness problem got progressively worse and worse.

So I got up and turned on the projector about an hour ago or so and everything is fine again and i'll see how it goes as time goes on. I'll report back in a bit later today.

FWIW, my last projector was an Epson 3500 and in the 3.5 years or so I had it, I never encountered this sort of thing.

As far as a video goes, check out BrandonH's posted video I think it was from earlier in this thread. My problem's exactly like his, but just alot more frequent and obvious. Maybe his video was taken when his projector hadn't been on that long?

Later on I will look into getting a video as well once the projector has been on a while. Assuming of course that that's the culprit.

The viewsonic is almost 2x in price. No lens shift. No dynamic iris. Limited P3 coverage. It is sacrificing a few things to be ‘laser’ and is still almost double the price. However we can speculate all we want but we won’t know til it launches and we get go hands on with it.

I must have a bad PJ. I've noticed a couple of other things. I seem to have a glitch with switching hdmi inputs as well. There's the issue I described a page or 2 back about going to my DirectTV input on my AVR and it finding no source.

A new one I've encountered and this is really weird... When I'm using my Amazon Fire, it will run

fine with various apps such as CBS, youtube, Netflix, but for whatever reason playing anything on Amazon prime causes problems. What happens is of the 5 or so different videos I've tried playing, it will play no more than maybe 6 or 7 seconds or so. Before the screen will blacken out like it's lost the signal. I don't even hear the audio. Then it says No Signal. Then a few seconds later it will get the signal back but for whatever reason the video I was watching is back but paused. Not sure why Amazon Prime videos won't play but other apps will.
I experienced the resolution issues, my Zidoo Z9S will output 1080 60p to w2700 if I switch the HDMI input of my Anthem AVM60 to Panasonic UB900 and switch back even I have forced Zidoo Z9S on 4K 60p, I have to change the resolution from 1080p to 4K manually.

I can run it in Smart Eco by just hitting the Dynamic Iris button on the remote and setting it to on.

My FW is 1.0.0.

Also I got my Amazon problem fixed.

Has anybody compared the BenQ tonemapping vs a Panasonic UHD player? HDR vs SDR/BT2020?

My educated hunch is that it will most likely be similar. Last year HT2550 measured at 46ms. TK800 measured at 43ms. @sage11x has documented that projectors of various brands that feature the motion enhancer, even when off, the projector will have 16-20ms more input lag. HT3550 measures at 59ms. Bright variant will measure at ??? Who knows...

I don’t mind gaming on the HT3550. I really don’t. Some people won’t notice it. Some people will. The visuals are stunning though...

I appreciate your insight. I actually have the 3550 here. I didn't really notice any lag at first. Then I tried the 800m and could feel the slight difference in response. Unfortunately the terrible throw range of the 800m knocks it out for me. I'm really dreading having to buy the 5050 just to have better lag , but now that I see there is a difference it's hard for me to ignore. Was also thinking the new 4k laser Viewsonic as an option.

I really love the TK800M and wholly recommend it for a good all-rounder for those who can fit it with its placement limitations. If you prioritize gaming more than movies it’s worth a conservation. If you prioritize movies more than anything, HT3550.

I mentioned my game night I recently had in my review of the tk800m. I really enjoy it and think it’s well placed at the value end of the BenQ lineup. My main gripe with the TK800M is that most people who are looking at value will probably have smaller rooms and the zoom and throw ratio went in the wrong direction from last year. Granted the new lens is the sharpest I’ve seen, but as the trend for screens get bigger and bigger, projectors will need to trend towards brightness at that Goldilocks throw ratio of 1.15-1.5

Need help/advice with ceiling mount for my 3550. Previously had an Epson on top of an equipment rack 15' from screen. That doesn't work with the 3550 so I will have to ceiling mount. Ceiling is 8.5'. I have a 106" screen. Top of screen is 6.5' from ground. Projector will be 9.5' from screen.

What is the best way to determine how high the projector should be mounted? What mount is recommended? I was going to just pick one up from Best Buy but noticed they only have $100-200 ones. Amazon has several under $100 that are well reviewed. Is this a case of "you get what you pay for" or typical Best Buy Monster cable rip off?

TIA

A mount is not something you will continuously mess with once it's configured/installed. However, the more premium options do have more features and flexibility. Based on my scrolling this thread, there are two that keep popping up:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...projector.html
Which I think is the same as but looks different slightly (or it's upside down):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...GHAXLHDG&psc=1
I have seen some use $15 ones and I found this too: https://www.amazon.com/QualGear-PRB-...gateway&sr=8-4

Finally, one from Benq: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ustomerReviews
May have a better shot in getting it from BenQ.

Either way, I seek more opinions on this as you do. At least this way it helps the next person who doesn't have to search and scroll this long thread like I did.

Hey Scotty, happy to take this offline and I posted this another Vudu thread but I recall you talking about this so I ask here. I have zero 4K content so I plan to upgrade my Netflix sub to UHD. I also signed up for Vudu as I would like to have the option to buy a physical disc for collection (like Martian, BR2049, Terminator, Predator, Matrix etc. series. I have these in DVDs so I was hoping to get the digital conversion option. The problem is Vudu still wants me to sign up for ultraviolet to do disc conversion while telling me that service is shutting down and apparently only 8,000 titles are available (no wonder it's shutting down). Then it wants me to buy movies through 'movies anywhere' to redeam codes. This is more complicated than it needs to be. Is my best option to go buy UHD movies I want (physical disc) and pay a premium on Amazon or elsewhere? And what the heck is 1080x versus HD (1080P)? Prefer I pm you? Thanks.

Hi all, here is the color gamut measurement under HDR mode with Wide Color mode ON, Brilliant Color OFF,
in normal light mode projected on a 126" 1.0 gain white screen,
HT3550 (W2700) reached 96% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage with 23 nits @ 100% white.
For me, the picture is dim but still acceptable, if I force 24P movie run as 60P with Movement Enhancer HIGH,
I feel the picture will a little bit brighter, and the image is stunning if I force SDR blu-ray play on HDR with Wide Color,
it just like a giant HDR TV......
I know I should stay with 24P when I play the 24P movie, but my feeling told me HT3550 (W2700) run in 60P is much better than 24P.

Have any Canadians received an update to their order? BestBuy was suppose to start shipping today but it is now listed as "out of stock". I preordered March 4th and haven't received shipping confirmation so I really doubt it will be showing up any time soon.

Are there other vendors that sells this is Canada?

Scottyroo, I had forgotten to watch your video review of the HT3550 until last night. Good stuff!

I was watching it via the Youtube app in my Dish Hopper. Note that I also have a Harmony Hub and 950 remote. I was happily watching your review until you said, "Alexa, turn on Bluray". Guess what my Alexa did?

You can get rid of the green tint by calibrating no problem. I think what they are doing is using lamp native color temperature to max out on brightness. Easily adjustable.

I am having a hard time deciding between the 3550 and 5550. General consensus is 5550 better color, better blacks, sharper image and $1k more?

Hey kind of new to all of this. I am looking at the HT3550 for a new theater build. I noticed it is out of stock everywhere, with it only releasing recently, is it normal for a projector to already be sold out like this? Luckily my build doesn't need to be done till late June, but it's kinda crazy that this is sold out everywhere. I am really liking all the reviews and $1500 is the sweet spot for the projector for my build.

It has more to do with manufacturing yield catching up and it being in high demand early on. From what I’ve seen, the best success people are having with getting their orders is from BenQ direct.

"The Bunker" | Dedicated Theater Build Under Suspended Slab Garage
Testing: BenQ HT5550 | Epson 5050UB | 160" Dragonfly™ Fixed AT Screen
Denon X6300H | 9.4.4 (7.2.4 Discrete) | 9x Episode 900 Series LCR/Surrounds | 4x Episode 1700 Series ATMOS Heights | 4x Episode 12" Evo Subs
Sony X700 | Xbox One X | NVIDIA Shield TV

Thanks! Loved watching your review on YT. I kinda figured that with it being new and popular that the number of them is low to demand.

Question for you, never had 3d anything, my receiver and 4k player all do 3d as well... what kind of glasses are needed for 3d just so I know? I will porbably get it straight from BenQ soon so that we get it by June.

That was my experience! My pre-orders from Amazon and Fry's back in February kept slipping to the right. A forum member posted they were in stock at BenQ Direct a little over a week ago and I snagged one. Should be arriving this afternoon!

Dang that's awesome! So jealous, but we are moving soon and have a lot to do, and the plan is for the theater room to be ready by the time we move end of June in the new house... time will go so slow.

I bought this set of 4 off Amazon for my HT2050A last year for about $35 and they have been working well for the money. They're kind of cheap, but they get the job done. Hopefully they'll work with the HT3550 as well?
