Edit: I also want to say that the ratio of brightness between the two in those measurements seems much closer to what I experienced placing the HT3550 next to the HT2050A (which is very similar in output to the W1070). The HT2050A is definitely brighter but it’s not like the Ht3550 is dim.

In my comparison of the two (post 2 of my review thread) I actually found the HT3550 has a significant advantage in a theater like room when it comes to contrast/blacks as the HT2050A has no effective way to reduce lumens without also dropping contrast (moving from smarteco to eco). The irony here is everyone is roasting the HT3550 for not being bright enough— I’m excited someone is actually making a sub $2000 projector that is appropriate for dark cinema use. I think some of this criticism will calm down when the bright version of this projector is announced.

HT2050A on the left and HT3550 is one the right.

It's just a case of how the world works..... you can please everybody all of the time...

You do something to please 100 people, 100 other people will get upset/ mad about something... you please those 100 upset/ mad people and another 1000 will find something else to be upset about

Hello

My first post and two cents

My sources: Xiaomi TV BOX, Himedia Q10 pro, htpc (ryzen 3 based)
Receiver: old pioneer elite that do not support 4k, using hdmi switcher and splitter so I can keep it.

Coming from w1085st (I know I was able to put the ht3550 further away and I lost 4 inches smaller image), my room is really small and I am sitting at 2 meters from the screen, w1085 was home calibrated with sonde and Calman, no calibration made on the ht3550, room is fully dark.

The improvement from w1085 is really noticeable, with 1080p is small, but using 4k material the jump is large, I can finally watch 4k material without willing to go to my saloon with a Samsung TV, main improvements are Color and definition (I suppose because I am so close to the screen) and also black levels (iris on)
BTW: All three sources are able to send HDR, BT2020, and I am still not decided about the WGC.

On the bad side:
- HDR was difficult to setup in the htpc, indeed not a PJ problem.
- Motion helper produces half screen issues
- Noise of the XPR is quite high, silence mode produce a huge difference so I suppose Benq improved the fan and color wheel noise in the W1085 but not able to help with XPR. (with XPR noise level is similar to w1085st, without noise is really low)

Living room which will be light controlled once shades are up. Will have a roll down screen in front of the tv for weekend viewing.
Going to try out the tk800 tonight for GOT and buy the ht3550. But I really think the brighter version of the ht3550 would be the happy medium.

Gents,
I have low ceiling in my man-cave, and need to mount my screen (and projector) as close to the ceiling as possible.
Right now it's only 12cm/4.7 inches from the ceiling to the top of my screen.
My current projector hangs 18cm/7,1 inches from the ceiling, but has a little vertical lens shift, so it's ok.
But if I understand correctly it's not possible to shift the lens/video "up" with the HT3550, right?
So do any of you know of a VERY low profile ceiling mount for the HT3550? More or less flush with the ceiling would be good
I would rather not have to move my screen further down, due to the placement of my center speaker.
I have searched on Amazon, but cant find what I'm looking for.
Thanks

I was in almost the same exact position as you at my one place and the “best” ultra low profile mount that would work for my W1070 (and not break the bank) was Silver Ticket 3” low profile mount (STR-MOUNTSB) ... should also work for the HT3550 and I found it on amazon.

And yes, the lens shift only goes “down” from a level to the top of your screen position.

My screen is 4 inch from ceiling and I purchased the kanto lp mount and it works perfectly with the HT3550....

OK, found it on Amazon thanks for the tip, will try it out.
Anybody happen to know the dimensions of the projector?
If the mount is 3 inches, where will the lense be then?
I guess it's measured from the center of the lens?

Center of lense to ceiling is 6.5 inches with Kanto P101W mount

I'm new to projector scene, and I have come down to 2 projectors that interests me.

1) xiaomi 4k Ust laser projector
+ Alr screen for UST
2) benq w2700/ht3550
Will be looking for Alr screen too for better daytime experience.

Anyone can offer some advice?

I will be using in dimmed lighting, not complete darkness. On weekends night, it will be closer to full darkness.

Anyone tried both and above to suggest which should I go for?

Main usage are movies playback.
1080p as well as 4k hdr content.

I have followed this post on the w2700, and looking forward to recive my own. Its been a long wait (I finished the room for christmas), and today I got a new date, several weeks ahead. After reading more and trying with a cardboard box to simulate the projector, I now realised to my horror, that I have miscalulated the throw distance, and that the long awaited projector will not fit due to my tilting roof!
(I can get the distance, but I will slam my head into it..)

Frustrated and angry with myself, I have started to look for options with a throw ratio from about 0,7-1. I would like to get 110" or 120" display from 215 cm`s away (flat roof).

Do anyone have a sugestion for me?? The main use will be movies, prefreble 4k, and same budget as the w2700/ht3550, but I guess the options a few (if any).

Thanks!

Couple of observations after a full weekend of viewing with the 3550:
(100" screen with seating 11 ft away, projector mounted 10 ft away) All of my settings are out of the box still, need to tweak the colors a bit, definitely heavy on the reds.

1) 4K HDR from the Oppo is stunning.
2) 4K HDR from Apple TV is stunning. (one weird twist is that using the menu button on my harmony while in ATV somehow click s the menu for the BenQ as well.)
3) Ghosting is prevalent in sports off Directv Feed. Lacrosse in particular is very noticeable. Hockey, not bad but noticable.
4) Dynamic Iris does have some flickr here and there. I'm new to that feature so nothing to compare it to, but I'm on the fence as to whether to keep or disable.
5) Picture is slightly brighter than my Sony HW45ES in lower lit sports viewing so no loss there.

I have a mounting challenge where I need to put this in front of a soffett so my ability to fill a 100" screen from just shy of 10 feet is a big seller and I'm willing to overlook some flaws. If I were 100% movies I would not hesitate to keep this. I am not liking the motion handling/sports and may need to look at some other options. Epson 5050 looks like I might just squeeze a full picture so I may give that a try.

Received my unit Friday and picture wise I’m loving it. Seems a step up from the Acer M550 I had. My only issue is the noise. Fans are very loud in normal mode and when in economic mode the Xpr buzz is distracting. It’s rather loud. Is this normal or do I have a faulty unit? I notice Sage mentioned in his review that Benq had pretty much eliminated the xpr noise so I’m wondering what’s going on. For reference I have the projector about 4 foot above my head.

My Harmony remote does the same thing sometimes. Every once in a while, even though it's in AppleTV mode, it will toggle on/off the last thing I used in HT3550 mode when pressing the home button. I've seen this behavior bring up the BenQ menu, test pattern and WCG on/off each. It seems to be fine when the screen times out and I try again. I'm sure it's a Logitech thing though and not another issue with the projector. I've been using the HT2550 remote profile but I'll probably try downloading the HT3550 another forum member uploaded a while back and give that a try.

Congrats on your purchase. One quick note: You shouldn’t be seeing any motion blur with DLP as this is a pulse type display (it’s immune to ghosting or blur). When it comes to motion handling, DLP is the best in the business and the HT3550 is particularly good here. Are you maybe seeing RBE? Do you know if you’re prone to RBE?

What to do if you find yourself stuck with no hope of rescue:
Consider yourself lucky that life has been good to you so far. Alternatively, if life hasn't been good to you so far, which given your present circumstances seems to be more likely, consider yourself lucky that it won't be troubling you much longer...

Dead area

So I've put about 65 hours on my HT3550 and this happened last night... It seems the bottom left corner is dead.
The area is dead no matter what source I'm on. I sent Benq an email last night but haven't heard anything back yet. Hopefully they'll get me an RMA soon....
Has anyone else had this issue?

Have you had any of the issues that the 3550 is having with the 800M?
Sad day.. I returned my 3550.... will wait a bit before pulling trigger on a 800M ... Switched back to my Epson 2040 last night and honestly the 1080p content did not get much improvement over this.... will miss the 3D (definitely better on 3550) and the 4K content.

Yeah that was me on AVForums

If you put yours on eco mode can you hear the xpr then? Mine is really pronounced. Really don’t want to send it back as everything else is perfect.

Yes. Someone else had this issue. See https://www.avsforum.com/forum/68-di...l#post57894646

May have gone away by itself after a reboot?

I had the exact same issue a couple weeks back but on the other side. Restarting the projector fixed it and it hasn't come back. I'm sure you tried this already but it could be worth restarting a few times as it seems to be more of a mechanical issue.

I alsohave experienced the bottom left going black as pictured. It went away with a power cycle and it hadn't happened again.

Sorry, RBE stands for Rainbow Effect. All single chip DLPs create color sequentially and some people can pick up on this. Typically, those effected describe RBE as color separation (a rainbow) along the edges of fast moving objects. RBE sensitivity isn't uncommon but most modern DLPs, like these '4X' color wheel 4K models, are not especially prone to displaying the artifact.

I watched your clip. I see no ghosting or motion blur. I DO, however, see a lot of compression artifacts around the players on the field. But that's an issue with your source and not the projector. Unfortunately, garbage in / garbage out.

Thanks for taking the time to do that! I agree that the DTV feed can be garbage some times. It never looked that way on the Sony though which is why it's got me hesitating on this projector.
Thx again!!

Has anyone else had this issue?

Yes sir. My first unit did same. Did it regardless of source, as well as test pattern. It went away only after a hard cycle. I called and got an RMA for a swap. New has not done it as of yet.
