Need a quick answer pretty please

Hey Gang,

New to projectors. Trying to figure out if the Epson 4010 will project a 100” screen in my room. The room size is 11.5 feet. Tried using Projector Central, but not sure how the sliders work exactly and don’t want to be wrong.

Been going back and forth between the Espon 4010 and the Optoma UHD51A.

- Do you think I can get a 100” image from the Epson in the 11.5 foot room?
- Which is the better Projector? Would be doing movies and gaming, room has very little ambient light.

Thanks for your help! Trying to make a decision by tonight 😉

Looks like the Epson will do a 16x9 image of:
- 99" at 11'6"; and
- 100" at 11'7".

The Optoma can do 100" at 9'2".

Both are very highly rated.

For 4k gaming with a pc or PS4 pro / Xbox one x, I’d opt for the uhd51A.

Throw is measured from the front of the lens to the screen. The calculator says the 4010 needs a minimum 9' 9" to throw a 100" image. Subtracting 9' 9" from 11' 6" leaves 21". But the lens is at the front of the projector and the 4010 is 18" deep which leaves only 3". But all the wiring connections are in the back of the projector so you need to leave space for that and the screen is going to be an inch or two off the other wall. So I'd say if the room is exactly 11' 6" from wall to wall that with the 4010 it's highly questionable if it would work. If you end up with even 1" less throw than needed the image wouldn't fill the screen from border to border.

The Optoma has a much shorter throw and would be no problem.

What kind of gaming 4k hdr or regular 1080p and is it shooter games like cod or sports games or others ? I believe tge 4010s input lag is like 28ms. For movies/tv, do you plan on watching 4k content? For the epson 4010 You would have to mount the 4010 about 2.2 inches from the very back wall to get 100 inch screen. It's 9 foot 10 inch throw distance with no zoom and with it being almost 18 inches long like 17.7 so with your room length that leaves like 2 inches of space.
The uhd51a is rated well also but I think it has higher input lag like 50ms

It is my understanding that the Optoma is almost a foot long from front to back, which means if you set it right against the opposite wall in your 11.5 room, you're really only working with a 10.5" throw at best. From that distance you can get you a screen size of close to 120" as long as you max out the pj's zoom. Like eljay mentioned, if you only desire 100" screen you can get that from a 9.2" throw with the pj fully zoomed, meaning you'd have to place it around 10.2" from the wall.

This is great info everyone! Yeah, I was afraid that I would be pushing it with the Epson.

With watching 4K content and playing on a PS4 Pro and Xbox One X it sounds like the Optoma is the way to go. Especially in that price point.

Thanks everyone! If you any more suggestions I would love to hear them or if there another projector I should consider.

Optoma has the shortest throw of any 4K model and has gotten solid reviews. Any of the longer throw models would be questionable for throwing a 100" image in a room that's only 11' 6" wall to wall. It's possible you might be able to squeeze one in but it would be a gamble. You really wouldn't be missing out on anything with the Optoma.

if you play call of duty or any of those kind of games the input lag on the 51a will be too much for you its around 59ms.
