Apparently the LS 700's support 3D from Blu-ray players (probably DLP Link).

Should be interesting to learn what kind of creative Frame Interpolation (FI) they will use, if any.


I'd guess that for both LS 700's they'd be using the same 0.47" FullHD DMD, one for FullHD applications (only) and the other one to create 4K images.

Hope they release the full specs soon!!

According to the Viewsonic X10 4K has a 0.8 throw.

Sorry for the noob questions about LED projectors, but what is a LED lumen? It sounds like a marketing term.

Do these LED projectors have colorwheels or are there 3 LEDs (RGB) for the light source?

2400 lumens seems a little high unless it is "boosted" by some white segment on a colorwheel like with a traditional bulb or laser

Yes, all color lumens. Also, if you read the story I linked to above about LED lumens, the colors are more saturated than those of UHP lamp projectors, and more saturated colors are perceived by the human eye to be brighter than their ANSI lumen rating. So if measuring a lamp-based projector and an LED projector at exactly the same ANSI lumens the LED model should be perceived by the human eye as brighter even if it doesn't show up on a standard light meter. It's not unusual for reviews of LED projectors to include comments that they appear at least a little brighter than they actually measure.

Now if a manufacturer states the brightness of an LED projector in LED lumens it means they are already adding the perceived lumen factor in at whatever increase they want to claim, and there's some debate about what percentage increase we actually perceive. Of course manufacturer specifications always need to be taken with a grain of salt. So it remains to be seen how many lumens independent test measurements will show and how that translates against the brightness of lamp-based projectors that most of us are used to viewing.

Yes I read the article and it seemed like the difference was minor even if you used a more accurate meter. This LED me to wonder, if the difference is small, then why even create confusion over a handful of lumens? Especially when the manufacturer's brightness spec is often overstated to begin with.

The different light meter showed only a minor difference. But you actually view with your eyes, not a light meter. So the key statement in the article is the quote below where I've bolded and underscored the key word:

The 1080p one mentions lag, but the 4k one doesn't. However, even that's just marketing materials - we won't know until some reviewer tests them.

I'm very interested in knowing more about the LS700-4K. Let's see how it compares with the Optoma UHZ65.

If I can't get my hands on Epson 5050ub within the next 60 days, the LS700HD will definitely be my next purchase.

I would like to know the natice contrast for this projector. I can deal with any TV or projector with at least 5,000:1 native contrast. Anything below that and the blacks look greyish and distracting during dark scenes in my opinion.

No DLP projector has been measured with 5,000:1 native contrast. For 3LCD you need to move up to one of Epson's UB models with their Ultra Black panels or a JVC or Sony LCoS model to get 5,000:1 native contrast.

There are typically not major differences in contrast and native black levels among similar DLP projectors as TI's DMD chips are the limiting factors. I would expect the new ViewSonic models to be at least comparable to the LG PF1500.

The x1000 is a little disappointing to me. Rec709 is surprising to me considering that it has an rgb led light engine. I’m hoping they can eek out at least 90% of dci-p3 by launch. Also up to 100” is really too small imo. I would be really bummed out if I purchased this along with an expensive UST screen only to see 90”-100” tv’s with much better picture come down in price in a year or two. Hopefully it can be pushed to a larger size without having any distortion or focus issues.

They do to me.

I was ready to buy the benq, until i saw the input lag.

I absolutely refuse to buy a projector with high input lag. Companies should know better by now.

This thing seems like its gonna smoke the benq.

I seriously doubt it will be better in terms of input lag. Nearly all DLP projectors use off the shelf control boards to manage video processing. This is why the lag times are nearly identical between different brands.

That's ... just not true at all .... There are DLP projectors with <10ms input lag, and there are DLP projectors with 70+ input lag. From the perspective of gaming playability that's the difference between world class and nigh-unplayable in many games.
