My bad, I should have written W5700 and W2700 as I'm not aware that this dealer network exclusivity applies here in Europe.

There is one little thing I do find annoying about the W5700 / HT5550 already now - BenQ highlights the black casing to reduce ambient light reflections on the casing, nevertheless features the green "power on" LED indicator on the projector's front side.

I doubt that LED will be bright enough to cause any concern. Who knows, maybe they’ll let you shut it off in the menu.

Those pesky LEDs can be very annoying, especially in a batcave for which the HT5550 seems to have been designed.

IMHO, BenQ better rethinks the LED position or encloses a "plug" to close this 'leak'.

Interestingly, the HT3550 doesn't feature a front LED, according to my experience its white casing would be a lesser problem than this green-lit front LED.

Have any of you math majors figured out how to guesstimate the range of this projector with its 1.6 zoom? My screen is 106" What would my short to long distances be? It's not on Proj Central yet.

I'm seeing 10' 5" to 16' 9" for a 106" diagonal on the 5700/5550.

FWIW the Optima UHD65 has a similar lens range (1.39-2.22) versus the 5700 (1.36-2.18) to get you close.

EDIT: I see the JVC UH-LX1 has the same range as the 5700 so any calculators that have this unit should give you what you need for distance.

Excellent. Looks like I will be close to the sweet spot at a little over 13 feet.

I will be getting some hands on time with this HT5550 at BenQ's HT3550/HT5550 launch even in NYC on the 21st. Anything you all would like me to test for you?

With your familiarity, hopefully it, at least, does everything the 3550 does as a baseline.

Since I am looking at this projector for use with an A-lens, it would be helpful to know how far the projector lens is recessed from the front casing or lens housing - whatever is in place that would stop the A-lens from closing the gap. Coming from the W1070, hopefully not more than 1/2".

Related to that, is there an aspect ratio menu setting that will stretch a 2.40 letterbox image vertically within the 16:9 frame, while maintaining the horizontal.

BTW: Do you happen to know the answer to these questions as it relates to the 3550?

Awesome, thanks so much for the offer!

Questions I have:
  1. is the black level lower than the 3550?
  2. it lists a higher dynamic contrast than the 3550. How was that achieved?
  3. sage mentioned in the HT3550 thread that the PJ he received back now does native 24 fps playback (instead of doing 3:2 pulldown to 60). Will that be available on the 5550 as well? How was this achieved?
  4. US MSRP and when it will be available to purchase

- creative frame interpolation - how well does it work, are interpolation artefacts visible (in the higher settings)?

- lens shift mechanism and range - since a horizontal lens shift is also available how precise is the lens shift alignment (i.e. does the horizontal lens shift interfere with the vertical one, is it tight or loose?) and what lens shift range can we expect (e.g. could you put the projector on the same horizontal axis as the center of the screen)?

- does it feature a digital image shift, i.e. could you move a 21:9 image segment (has the letterbox bars on a 16:9 screen) up or down?

- does it have blanking and if so, what's the blanking range?

- supposedly the blacks are blacker than with the HT3550, would be interesting to learn if this is something worth writing home about

Many thanx in advance.

Is the 3D performance the same on both?

I’ve confirmed with BenQ that the HT5550’s dynamic iris will be improved over the HT3550. That’s is great news as the Iris on the HT3550 is already very good. One feature is the ability to close 100% which the HT3550 iris cannot do. This gives the HT5550 infinite FOFO contrast which it great for black cut scenes. . NO GRAY SCREENS.

That's great news😊

Can you check how many calibrated lumens we can expect, with and without the filter?
I'm worried this projector gonna be quite dim in HDR with the filter on, even for my 110' screen.
Can we at least expect the same calibrated lumens as the W2700/HT3550?

If any one knows the answer please feel free to answer

Why the heck do manufactures opt to go the dealer route when it just makes it harder for the normal average joe to purchase rather than have it available in retail like amazon, bestbuy etc

Thinking April. But it’s a dealer model so no idea yet what stock levels will be like.

There's an event on the 21st that will hopefully have more information like release date and pricing.

I hope there will be some reviews soon as I'm not buying until I see a (trusted) measurement of the black level.

Looks like it's coming out mid-April in Australia: https://www.stereo.net.au/news/benq-...-4k-projectors

Some price hints for the UK with a release "imminent": https://www.whathifi.com/news/benq-i...hdr-projectors

Haven't found any info for the US yet...

Some dealers are listed here: https://www.benq.com/en-us/support/d...resellers.html

Thanks a lot! Went straight to page 15 to evaluate lens shift range and think there might be a misprint:

"The lens shift is expressed as a percentage of the projected image height or width."

E.g. it states max. vertical lens shift to be "0.65V" of image height but for example 125 cm x 0.65% I get less than one centimeter.

I therefore have to assume it's correctly "65V", i.e. 125 cm x 65% = 81 cm lower down or further up.
