The HT5550 is an 80's Italian Exotic car. Looks awesome, great performance, but quirky and in the shop more often than you would like.

I thought that mostly applied to the expensive, Italian SIM 2 front projectors?

It’s time for me to pick one of these up.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an affordable AT screens that will still show off the colors and resolution of this projector? I’m looking for something around 120”.

Thanks! 👍

I laughed out loud reading this...

As far as I know: directly from BenQ.

I'm not sure that's correct if you are talking about through the Benq website in Canada. I've tried and the link to the Benq store takes you to the US site where the shipping details tell you the projector can only be shipped within the United States. There seems to be no way around this by just going through Benq.ca.

Hm...

I’ll ask.

I have updated my HT5550 with the Australian software and it works fine. Features as explained in the post. Hard to see any dramatic change in picture quality but being able to adjust the auto iris is a nice feature. The projector seems much more stable when switching signals on the hdmi input.

Are any of you using an AT screen with this projector? If so, which brand do you recommend to get? I am contemplating going this route but want to make sure the picture wont suffer because of it...

Does installing the Australian firmware affect the US warranty? Why isn't the firmware available here?

It's not out yet in the US? It was supposed to release on or around July 1.

I installed the firmware last night and I think it's a big improvement. DI on middle for SDR and low for HDR seemed best for me.

Even middle for HDR there was noticable pumping at times, but nowhere near as constant as prior to the new firmware.

Also the motion enhancer was much improved. I thought it was my Nvidia Shield dropping frames this whole time, but it was the HT5550. That issue has been fixed and its noticably smoother for me.

My version number still shows 1.0.0 however.

This website suggests that there is also an update to the TI chip that requires sending the HT5550 back to a service center. The posts also state the firmware version number will not change even though the firmware has been updated.

This is correct and I detailed this a little ways back in the thread. One firmware update can be done remotely by the user. The other update requires the unit be serviced (sent in).

Danield appears to be on the right track. I was informed that BenQ is working with Best Buy Canada to offer the unit through it’s online store. I should know more monday.

Sage,
Do you know if Benq will reach out to owners proactively or should Technical Support be contacted to arrange shipping?

I hear this sound anytime the source changes from SDR to HDR or if you change the picture mode to D. Cinema.

Thanks Sage
I had a look at Bestbuy.ca for fun and they are already selling the HT3550 through a third party which is a well-known HT specialist. Probably be the same for the HT5550
