Update...Well that didn't take long with my projector order. After a lengthy conversation with a BenQ rep (since my order still hadn't shipped), it was determined by their third party, post-order, fraud processing service that 1) they didn't recognize my email address domain and 2) the web order IP address (VPN) was physically too far from the billing address. Forget the shipping and billing address was the same and credit card approved the purchase. As a result, they wouldn't accept the order, it would be cancelled and a refund would be issued in 3-5 days. I was told if I wanted to reorder over the phone that should be no problem. I wonder if placing an order while on vacation would also be turned down.
So I asked how many units were in stock - twenty six. "Could I be assured I would receive a unit with the latest firmware 1.0.1?" It was indicated they don't pull units at the warehouse for updating, and that the technical group was located elsewhere. If I were to receive an older unit, they would be happy to overnight both directions for me. I was informed it was a minor update anyway. ("I'm somewhat skeptical when it comes to customer service/support statements in general.")
I declined to place another order. I'm gonna sit back a while now and see what others experience with these stocked units, and what new products might be introduced in the coming months from various manufacturers. I imagine that sometime in the future (could be now for all I know) all units will come updated.
