Good news! My refurb unit has the 1.0.1 firmware on it. The noise from the DI is very quiet and it is barely noticeable even with the sound on mute.

I am also auditioning a HT3550 right now and not surprisingly the HT5550 looks to be better in just about every category. And the fan on it is so much quieter than the HT3550!

Has anyone had a stuck mirror and know an easy way to fix it? I just noticed a stuck black pixel in almost the center of the screen.

I'm wondering if BenQ will replace it for me with only one stuck pixel.

Just got the HT5550 delivered. Set it up on a table to check firmware before mounting it and about 2-3 mins after starting it the red temp light blinks and the projector shuts off. Guessing im going to be calling benq tomorrow. Bummer being without a projector and having to take another day off work.

Call back and speak with another rep. Did you buy it from them directly?

@Cinemiya , I am close to purchasing this PJ and posts like these are not helping the cause! Did you buy direct from BenQ or through a dealer?

From an authorized distributor.

I got it through projector people and it was dropped shipped from BenQ. The dealer ended up solving the issue but it was frustrating dealing with BenQ low level support. I think the dealer went through their rep to fix it.

Good to hear. That's exactly who I was planning on buying from, Projector People. I bought my EPSON 5030 from them back in 2013 and I've bought three other PJs for my office. Great company to deal with IMO.

Angry Benq dead pixel warranty

Dear all benq w5700/ht5550 user, firstly please apologize my poor english.

I bought w5700 in thailand back in december last year. it is my second projector (upgrade from w1070). during initial use I saw a bright pixel at the right edge of the screen which did not bother me too much since it is outside of frame. so I let it be not much concern.

But after two months during mid February, I started experiencing anormaly behavior like attach link to youtube video below. The w5700 frequently freez in a middle of nowhere on occation events. sometime quite often like every few minutes while another time hours.

I extensively ran many test to find the source of problem by change 2 players (PC and apple tv), 3 hdmi cable, 2 avr hdmi inputs, 2 avr hdmi outputs, 2 benq w5700 hdmi inputs and finally connect the player directly to the benq. Finally my conclusion was benq w5700 hdmi 1 input cause the problem. I always turn off every equiptments before plug and unplug everythings.

Then the dark pixel suddenly appear in a middle of the screen like this.

I contact the store I bought w5700 from they took it back and inform me today that benq thailand are going to fix it within two weeks.

fix it not replacing it, I don't happy with this but don't know how the replacement policy on those bad pixels on projector. and one more trouble on hdmi 1.

I thing the bad pixels warranty policy should be the same across the globe.

how does benq react to defect like this in another countries? anybody having experience like this? please let me know.

I just spoke to to BenQ on the phone and they are telling me that I must purchase from an authorized dealer or I will not receive be able to receive any warranty support. This is apparently their company line despite there being absolutely no language in their warranty fine print stating this.

Can anyone that purchased from an non-authorized dealer and had to RMA confirm or deny this statement from BenQ?

Just curious; why do you want to buy from a non-authorized dealer instead of BenQ directly? Other projector brands all have their own “de-authorized reseller” list because there are companies (or individuals) not able to follow rules like putting a used projector in a new package and reselling to people like you in all marketplaces like eBay or amazon or Walmart. If you were able to talk to someone at BenQ, try tell them your concern why those “non-authorized dealers” are better to see how they can help you. Also my understanding and experience is the manufacturer warranty will be only void on the purchases from “de-authorized resellers/dealers”, not “non-authorized ones”. Check BenQ website and search “deauthorized” to see if the dealer you are planning to buy from us on their list. Good luck!

I went to BenQ site and found this: https://www.benq.com/en-us/support/r...on.html%5b/url

I haven't seen anything. I'd be curious to see how it stacks up against the NX7/RS2000 too, even though I know they are in 2 different price ranges.

Funny thing is everyone seems to think the Epson TW 9400 has superior PQ just because of the better blacks, I auditioned both and bought the BenQ W5700 as it had a sharper and smoother more film like picture, I could see screendoor and digital looking image due to the lower pixel shifting of the enhanced 4k technology of the Epson.

True the motorized lense control is superior but I don't have a 2:35 screen and once my PJ is setup I never touch the focusing or zoom anymore.

I haven't compared it to the newer Epsons but my old Epson 2045 used to have the dirty screen effect really badly on panning shots. Same for my Samsung KS8500, I really couldn't stand it.

I know people crap on the black levels of DLP, but the motion clarity is so much better than LCD tech.

Preference is subjective.

It's difficult to get projectors properly set up in the right room, with the right personnel, etc.

How big was the screen and from what distance were you viewing it?

You can see one member's Scott review of the TW 9400 vs the BenQ 5700 on YouTube, he showed the difference in resolution and the LCD enhanced 4k definitely inferior and the shootout pics masked side by side he actually said the picture quality BTW the two were awash.

Hello,

I am considering this projector and am trying to find some pictures that show the performance with a few overhead can lights turned on.

I do not think that the HT5550/W5700 is a good choice for a lit room. Choose a brighter projector for that purpose.

It's designed for a light controlled room. It just doesn't have the lumen output to contend with ambient or artificial light.

You might want to look at the TK800 or an LCD projector.

Ummm... the screen is really the only important part when you are in a partially lit room.... bright or not, a uni gain screen will be very washed out...

. You could probably get away with the can lights on in the back of a basement.....like 12 feet or more away from the screen. Anything closer and it’s not going to work. I have Back lights on in a basement 14 feet away in this picture. It’s watchable.

If you pause and analyze each picture then you'll find more issues then there actually are. It's not easy to make judgements on pictures/video on the internet.

In real life content the higher contrast of the Epson would have and advantage. It's also significantly brighter. But it's the user's preference that ultimately counts.

You still haven't mentioned the size of the screen and room environment where both projectors were auditioned.

What is the source and intensity of the ambient light? How far away are the lights from the screen?
