BenQ HT3050 vs 2050a

I was about to grab the 2050a, but see Amazon Canada has the price up to $949 from $899. grrr. But now the 3050 is down to $1099. But the 3050 is a few years old, is there any reason it would be better than the 2050a?

I doubt it is any better may even not be as good. I defiantly wouldn't pay an extra $150 for it.

OK, thanks, that's what I was thinking as well. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

The HT3050 comes from the factory with a calibrated picture mode that promises 100% rec 709 color gamut coverage with dE error of < 3. It also has better internal speakers.

The HT2050A is technically newer but, really, it is a refresh of the HT2050 which debuted alongside the HT3050 a couple years ago. Still, it gets a significantly longer warranty (3 years vs the 1 year of the HT3050) and a new “fast mode” which drops input lag from 33ms to 16ms.

Personally, I’d go with the HT2050A. The difference in color fidelity is appreciable but not something most people are likely to notice unless the projectors were side by side on the same screen running the same content. If everything else were equal I might feel differently here but the lower price when combined with a longer warranty and less input lag makes the HT2050A the winner in my book.

What's really nuts is that BenQ charges an extra $189 to extend the HT3050 warranty from 1 to 3 years.

Thanks Sage, I went ahead and ordered the, 2050a should be here today or tomorrow! Hope this is my last try, didn't have much luck with the Optoma UHD51a or the HD27HDR.

I had to return my HD27HDR as well after the lamp failed...after 3 months! Didn't even have 100 hours on it yet. Had to pay $30 to ship it back to them, then they took three weeks to fix it before they sent it back. Will never buy another Optoma product. Worst customer service ever. Cut my losses and sold it on eBay, going to order a 2050A this time around!

I really liked my old HD70, that's why I went Optoma. But I gotta say, this time around the Benq is just so much better. Switching inputs is smoother and doesn't screw up my PC monitor. It's been a great unit for me so far. The only drawback is my Optoma(and the others I tried) seemed to shoot a more square image, but that may just be because I am at the limit of lens shift, the Optomas had a better offset for my application. But it's not a big deal.
