Well problem solved and waiting till Monday to buy the lg hu70la and to build the diy hc grey .8 gain screen.
Keep in mind that the 70LA can do at most ~700-800 lumens and some users which have tried negative gain screen though it was too dark.

I've also seen the white on black spandex to lower the gain.

My white on black spandex is too bright to the point i run my pf1500 at eco setting and with reduced brightness.

Once the hu70la gets here i will test white on black spandex and if too bright then gray spandex it is.

I presume by that you mean once calibrated, and in movie mode. I'm getting 925 lumens in uncalibrated Movie mode (medium or warm).

In putting together a hands-on of the black version, I checked the other reviews out there and it's confusing. Nobody has the same numbers. Projectorcentral basically says 800 lm is the ceiling. My numbers are extremely close to what hometheaterreview published; I think you can get around 900 lm out of it in movie mode and 1200 lm out of it in the HDR effect mode, but clearly your mileage may vary since projectorreviews.com managed to come up with numbers that are all higher than any of these.

For the sake of my hands on, I'm calling it "approx. 900 lm maximum" in movie mode.

Projectorreviews and passionhomecinema have had higher measured values for some projectors:
https://www.passionhomecinema.fr/blo...is-de-gregory/

From my experience with the W2000/HT3050 and others in the series I tend to favor PC's measurements.

Rob Sabin is the Editor-in-chief over there so I'd expect good work. Even so, in this case it's inconsistent with what I measured, and what 2 other review sites measured, and ultimately I feel it is too low a number. I can only speculate that it could be an issue with the meter or the review unit they used. Regardless, this projector is appropriately bright for a unit carrying a 1500-lumen spec (even if it does not reach it, it comes closer than halfway there).

In my case, I am using HU70LA with 126" JK 1.0 gain white screen, projector to screen about 10',
I measured only 42 measured only 42 nit with full power in SDR or HDR mode, it equal to 577 lumens only.

Lucky color brightness of LED is much better than lump base projector.

Still waiting on amazon to ship my lg projector as tomorrow is the 26th and not even a tracking number from amazon.

Angry at lg that the technological advancement of 2020 model is just it's available in black.

And that the hu70la is the only projector sub 1800 that's 4k led.

Just waiting till 2021 and some better 4k led or laser models to put my lg hu70la on the sales bin.

Just angry at lack of progress in 4k led laser projector models.

Sorry about the rant just angry I went amazon instead of faster delivery from b and h photo.

Hours till my projector gets here feels like weeks.......sigh.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think that people would've paid $2000 for a differentiated home theater-centric black version if it included even just manual lens shift.

Or an iris, or some kind of adequate dimming function.

Hear, hear! Even a very small lens shift would make lining up the mounting hardware with the screen a breeze.

Based on what I have read, sharper picture, poorer black level and contrast.

My

My projector is still in transit but will probably get here at last by thursday.
Then my experiment will be can the hu70 la in a black velvet batcave approximate the levels of my pf1500 in a white walls ceiling cave?
We will see.

This does not mean I am OK with lg as the way I feel is extreme anger at the lack of projector technological progress.

Being overcharged 200 dollars for a black plastic in the 2020 model makes me want to find an lg rep distributor and enthusiastically recite the abbreviated version of fornication under consent of the king along with a hearty YOU for several long minutes.
