Thanks man, looks very good machine! and with LG OS which is the best in market. My only concern is about price/performances: in the same short throw ball park we got

Led/smart
- LG Hu70la ($1.799)
- Optoma Hlu55 ($999 now)
- Viewsonic X10-4k ($1.200 now)
Lamp
- BenQ w2700 ($1.000 now in promo)
- Viewsonic PX747 ($1.000 now)

Which one would be the best for a lid living room for casual 50/50% 4k movies/gaming?

You can also add the Chinese projector JmGo X3 4K DLP $ 960 for aliexpress. Russian craftsmen were able to get the international firmware from the clone Philips S6 and were able to install it on X3, the projector received a more pleasant interface and many languages. It is also believed that X3 has 2 matrices 0.47 DLP (3840 real) horizontally. I was confirmed in a letter by an official representative of JmGo, but in words without supporting evidence.

@esegan thanks, do you happen to have the link for that "crafted" version?

Above all the above short throws, which one you reckon being best choice cost/quality/performance?

Thanks+

Already there are 3 optimized firmware from Philips S6 and 3 ways to install on X3, including .bin firmware. Owners have already installed S6 firmware on X3 projectors and are very pleased.

@esegan thanks a lot mate! Not a super expert in installing firmwares but will have a look. If you got download/install guides links feel free to PM me.

Overall, what's your experience with the X3 "S6" version? 4k/HDR/Gaming?

What do you dislike about the 3550? I am trialing one and an Epson 3800 at the moment. I am leaning toward the 3800.

A quick comment on this LG HU70LA

Pro
Brightness
Sharpness (better than my expectation)
Very good HDR tone mapping
good video processing
Smart Projector

Con
Placement
Black level (especially playing the low light picture)
not smooth when playing native 24P (as same as most DLP 4K does)

Will take measurement later......

P.S. Except black level and sharpness, it beat W2700/HT3550 every way.

Screen shot for reference only, my Sony ZX2 add many noises.

@chhanthony thanks a lot for sharing this first impressions! Would you mind sharing some video footage of 4k/HDR content and gaming?
I am actually undecided between the BenQ w2700 and this LG hu70la: usage would be on a white wall (then a 0.8 gain grey screen) in a dim light living room for 4K/HDR movies (Netflix and Amazon Prime via Amazon 4k Firestick) and gaming (PS4 PRO).

Which one would you suggest to go for?
Pulling the trigger on Black Friday so won't have much time to decide

That’s disappointing that you thought the black level was worse than the BenQ 3550. It’s terrible contrast and black level was the worst thing about that projector. Do you know if the LG has a plastic or glass lens?

All the 4K dlps have much worse black levels and contrast then the HD dlp projectors. You would think by now that the engineers would have come up with a solution.

Really???? Ugh. DLP projectors aren't the best at contrast and black levels to start with. You WOULD think they would have figured it out by now. So could it be that a 1080P projector with good contrast, black levels lenses etc would be a better choice than a 4K projector in this price range? I know about the Epsons, but I was never a fan of LCD projectors.

Actual on-screen contrast is always much lower than test scores that measure contrast with the meter aimed at the projector, yet it is on-screen contrast that our eye sees.

In this test they measured the on-screen contrast of an Epson TW9400 (UB5050/6050) / BenQ W5700 (HT5550) and with this image the result was 1140-1 / 890-1:

http://cine4home.de/wp-content/uploa...08/Bild49c.jpg

and with this image the result was 200-1 / 330-1:

http://cine4home.de/wp-content/uploa...08/Bild51b.jpg

http://cine4home.de/benq-w5700-vs-ep...nzimmerbeamer/

In both cases the results are close enough that our eyes will have a hard time deciding which is superior, albeit that the latter image is closer to a 2-1 ratio than the first image.

On paper the Epson UB should have a large margin of superiority, when in actuality, using on-screen contrast, the results are a draw.

That's why I have recently purchased a Marantz VP-15S1 and a Runco LS-5. Look hard on CL and you can find some bargains. I use these for my Directv HD high contrast watching like sports and use my recently purchased JVC RS540 for 4K movies with HDR. The Marantz and Runco have equal images when the event is not low level light material, like a lot of movies.

Okay, just finish the measurement and calibration, all measurements were told by

Software: CalMAN 2019 Video Pro
Patterns Generator: VideoForge Pro
Spectrophotometer: X-Rite i1 Pro2
Colorimeter: Klein Instrument K10-A

in a light control room (not a batcave) with 126" (123" actual picture size) JK N4 1.0 gain white matt.

I have to say LG have a very good setting adjustment system, and it works very linear.
The most disappointed on this HU70LA is black level, as measured, 0% is 0.117 nit,
the 2nd disappointed is contrast, it only have 400:1 FULL ON/OFF contrast.
Although the peak brightness only have 45 nits but it looks actual as bright as my old HT1070 with 70 nits peak brightness.
The color saturation is wonderful and the Dynamic Tone Mapping works very very well.
Many unwatchable films on W2700 like The Dark Knight Rise, Meg, Sing and Lego Batman,
the skin tones and sunshine were looked yellowish but now become look neutral.
Dunkirk image looks very very very wow!!!!
Sharpness might not compare to W2700 but the resolution is better.
With Dynamic Tone Mapping and Dynamic Contrast might lost some black detail but both should keep it ON.
Even the black level is very so so, but all other performance are far beyond W2700.
I never seen these color in entry level DLP projectors.

You will only aware black level not good the you are watching the low brightness scence,
but in the bright scence HU70LA provide a very good color saturation and even with plastic lens it looks have better resolution than W2700.

I tried took video with my phone but the color look very weird...but looks normal on my screen.
