HT1070 - did my lamp fail?

My lamp has a lot of hours on it. When you turn the projector on, the benq logo comes out, projected on the screen. Then, after like 30 seconds. The projection turns off and the cooling fan speeds up faster than I've ever heard it and the red 'lamp' indicator light comes on.

I just wanted to make sure there isnt something else wrong and waste $200 ordering a lamp

There is no way to know for sure. This why in any projector when the lamp reaches its expected life it should be replaced before it fails. Keep the old lamp so you can have a known good lamp to test with instead of playing Russian roulette with expensive lamps.

I saved a lot of theater dough by just buying the bulb and replacing it inside the lamp housing. I think I paid $35 for the, is it Omron? bulb. Just be sure to wear rubber gloves and try not to touch the glass. Mine wasn't difficult but I'm sure some might be.
That doesn't sound like a lamp issue to me though. What does your manual say? You said the lamp had a lot of hours on it; did you happen to notice if it was over the recommended hours? If so, I would replace the bulb and hope for the best.
Good luck.

Sounds like you have an over temperature error/condition.

If the lamp life is exhausted, the LAMP light will light up orange.

You have three indicator lights on top of the projector case, POWER, TEMPerature, and LAMP.

You need to note which ones are on.

Assuming RED - RED - OFF, you have a fan problem.

Assuming GREEN - RED - OFF, you have a temperature problem.

Assuming GREEN - RED - RED, you have a temperature problem.

Assuming GREEN - RED - ORANGE, replace lamp.

I would suggest that you look for a repair shop. Royal Camera does this type of repair and is doing free estimates through the end of the month.

I looked up the manual. It starts out booting up as green, off, orange. Or "lamp life is exhausted." The picture is being projected during this time. Then, after 45 seconds, the projection shuts off, then the indicators switch to off, off, red. Which is either, 1. The lamp needs 90 seconds to cool off, or 2. Please contact your dealer for assistance

Either way, I have a lamp ordered, directly from Benq. Hopefully it solves it.

How many hours did it work before failing. If you bought the lamp directly from BenQ it is unlikely it's defective but always a possibility. Knock off lamps a very likely possibility. Tuff situation to be in that can always be avoided if people would replace their lamps before they fail.

Unplug the projector for a few minutes. That will force a reset. Plug it back in and turn it on.

You could also check and see if the lamp is properly seated.

If it's still not lighting up, it could be the lamp/power supply ballast.

I stuck my old lamp in and it still does the same thing. Lights up for 45 seconds and then shuts off.

The new one fails to light up at all. That pretty well confirms that the new lamp is bad.

I cant seem to get ahold of anyone at benq. I emailed them on Sunday and immediately recieved a generic "we recieved your email. Well contact you soon." I called their 800 number several times on monday and Tuesday and after about 15 minutes, it goes to voicemail. I've left a few voicemails. I cant seem to get ahold of a real human.
