The UHD65 has a larger 1.6x zoom lens and it uses the .66in 4K XPR DMD, that has better resolution than the .47in DMD in the UHD51A. Having said that there probably isn't that much difference between them, when viewed at the same image size, but if you want that extra level of performance, it will cost considerably more.

There are lots of published reviews on both of these projectors.

Contrast and blacks will slightly favour the UHD65, noise levels are very similar, but also slightly favour the UHD65. The bottom line is that to get that little bit of extra performance, you have to pay a premium.

I have a UHD50, which is very similar in terms of image quality to the UHD51A. If someone offered to trade me a UHD65 for my UHD50, I would certainly do it. I am not certain that I would have paid the premium for a UHD65.

in this case 1000 euros of difference, for not having 3D and for having few improvements. I agree with you!

I confirm that the 3d of the uhd51 is excellent.
however I have the possibility with about 1000 of difference to switch to a uhd65 and I wanted to understand the real differences.

I went through the same process when trying to decide which projector to get. It was either going to be the udh51 or the 65. I bit the bullet and went with the 65 since it had a bigger chip and better blacks. Another consideration for me was the light border you get with the 51 over the 65. My screen has a felt lining but I did not want to have to mess with making sure it is always lined up perfectly. I also had to make the decision to give up on 3D since my last projector had it. I do not regret giving it up. The udh65 is an awesome projector. I am glad I made the extra investment. I did see some reviews comparing the 65 to other projectors, that also helped me bite the bullet and go ahead and spend the extra money.

Here's two tests:

https://audiovision.de/optoma-uhd51-test/

https://audiovision.de/optoma-uhd65-test/

However, the UHD65 was tested with a very early firmware.

I don't know why you're concerned about blacks. These projectors have poor contrast and I assume it will be placed in a non treated room. So black level at least should be very similar.

In terms of sharpness, it depends how big the screen is, how far away the seating position, is, source, and other things. Personally I would not spend 1000$ for these differences. The UHD51 is sharp enough.

actually the room is dedicated.
black does not seem better to me than my previous hd33 so it suits me, of course if uhd65 is better, and it is better also on other factors ....

The base of the screen is 330cm and I am seated at 400cm

What does dedicated mean?

There are many many other factors that have an effect on sharpness. Just saying the difference in price is not warranted.

You are correct, I did not have both of them in house to compare them. I did not want to spend the money for both to compare them side by side or knowingly want to buy both knowing I was going to send one back. I’m sure I would have been happy with the uhd51a but in the back of my mind, I would have wondered if I would have been happier investing a little more money initially instead of spending less money for something that ‘might’ be as good. That’s my mindset. After reading as many reviews as I could, I just bit the bullet and got the 65.
