ChiQ A5U UST with Dolby Vision support - review

This is a interesting development.

I'm not sure which forum to place it in, as it retails for 2600UK pounds.

Any official info about the DV support? I can't see anything where this is being marketed as a DV projector, which seems pretty odd. Almost as if it is accidental that it supports DV...

If you look at the video, they actually have DV menu options available when the signal is detected as DV. I'm pretty sure that's not accidental.

You are correct that they zero information on any online outlet about DV support...maybe they underestimated how impactful this feature could be and didn't highlight it in the marketing of. On another note, most of their marketing materials online and print seem very rushed and not put together very well so maybe it's an oversight. There is an official from CHiQ on the forums, maybe he can shed some light.

Why no DV badge on the projector and as others said, why no mention anywhere other than Vincent's review?

Probably because it isn't anything to brag about. Did Vincent focus on it in his review? Nope. That's a big indicator right there. It's a projector after all. A laser projector with inherently poor contrast and brightness necessary for good HDR, as are most projectors.

It seems almost identical to the B5U although the True Color menu has an extra "White" setting which leads to additional white balance controls. I hope this is included in the upcoming B5U firmware update.

It has been confirmed by @CHiQLASER in the B5U thread. @kraine has also speculated that the CHiQ projectors were able to beat other manufacturers to the market because Changhong already has the DV license for their TVs.

Hold up. So some random little outfit out of China is able to beat every other manufacturer to market with a DV-capable projector?

Assuming this is actually licenses DV and not a hack or some other kind of flim-flam on the part of ChiQ, what's the excuse going to be if JVC/Sony/etc. don't have support in the next revision of their projectors?

By all accounts ChiQ are a big deal in China.... they already use DV in their TVs that they sell thousands of.

Or so I have read.
