I know it's a very (very) far fetched demand for help, but here it is.
The image quality on my HD80 has degraded, in some serious way.
The story so far. I bought it when it was new on the market here in France, and it has been working very fine since then.
One day, the dreaded time for the lamp change came. But i took my time. I think the PJ stayed off for something like 4 to 5 months, unplugged. I then sourced a replacement bulb, advertised as "genuine", changed it, boot up the PJ again, and voilà !
The image quality is severely degraded in the darker scenes. Like the dynamic of the image is compressed and is completely lacking details in the low end of the spectrum (so to speak). In bright scenes, no problem. In dark scenes, everything tends to turn to green-gray "blotches", details are lost almost completely.
Is it possible that the replacement lamp is the cause for this ? I had some doubts about the fact that it's a genuine lamp to begin with.
Firmware-wise, the PJ has never been updated, so it still has the original, factory one.
Any advice welcome.
