Thanks Eric.. I appreciate it!
Finally, my qualia died - after 6 years! Fortunately, I had bought an extra unit, years ago, as a back up. Truly, I appreciate the Karl Zeiss lens of this projector. I am swapping in my back up unit.. Not an easy task for ceiling mounting!

I plan to use it, for another year or so - until the 4k units become less expensive.

Sony Qualia 004 beamer power failure

I'm the owner of a recently buyed good 2nd hand Sony Qualia 004 Beamer. The superb technique and build quality still fascinates me, even beside the fact that the beamer already exists since 2006. So it's an 'oldie'. I enjoyed viewing several movies and connected the beamer on the ceiling in my living room (in the Netherlands). But suddenly there's no power anymore. When I tried to start up the beamer once, nothing reacted, (because of the mains supply?) No light, no fan, no indications on the beamer screen. Seems only a 'dead system'. I measured the power on the powercord entrance. It's 230 V, so there is input. I checked and measured the fuse inside (15A), the fuse is OK. I don't know what the cause is, or how to repair. How can I measure if it's the powersupply unit of the beamer or something else? Also it's difficult to 'dismantle' part(s)of the beamer while hanging on the ceiling, but I'll give it a try. Does someone had the same problem and how was it solved? Or know how to do it? I see on ebay that I can buy powerunit-parts (USA) but how do I know if they're good working and if that's necessary? The beamer costed a lot in 2006, I payed a nice lower price in 2019, but I hope I can repair it, because I love the beamer, the design and specs. I also have a new spare-bulb , but the inside bulb seemed to be OK, because I got no warnings (1700 hrs). I have a users manual but no service/repairmanual. Does anyone have this manual perhaps? Sony isn't supporting the beamer anymore. Too old (...). Suggestions?

it's been about 10 years since I installed my Q004. A couple of bullet answers for you:
  1. IIRC, one of the regulars on this boards repairs Qualia 004's. Try a search in this thread. I think this person may be your best resource.
  2. I also seem to recall that Sony replaced defective power boards at no charge early in the ownership. i'm fairly certain that mine was replaced.
  3. I may have an owner's manual at home - will look if you still want it. It was rather limited so I doubt it will help you.
  4. I also
have a PowerPoint on replacing the lamp - if I can find it.

i'm traveling now but will be happy to look if you like but recommend finding the repair source who has posted here in the past.

Search for Sony Qualia 004 defect

Thanks you both for your reply. I've sent an pm to Curt Palme now to see if he's responding and if he can help. I do have a (pdf) user manual at the moment, but not the service-(repair)manual. At the same time I am interested in the ppt for replacing the bulb! At this moment my first priority is to get the power-unit (or other course of the malfuntion) repaired. Thanks for this assistance and if there is more information or help, I'll appreciate it very much!
