OK, need some help again guys. I can't keep bothering Carl. I can't seem to install the Dirac Live software onto my XP PC. I keep getting an error message that I don't have valid Win32 application.

Any ideas?

I had similar issues until I tried a win7 32 bit machine. Now it works with my Mac too. Try win7 if you can.

Does the initial .bat not install all that for you? The problem is that when I run the .bat file I get error messages that I don't have a valid win 32 application.

A little handy tip for you all. It's probably in the manual but I do not remember reading about it. And big thanks to Neil for letting me know about this.

I quite often want to listen to one source and watch a different source at the same time. Ie, listen to my linn ds via stereo 1 input and watch news on TiVo via hdmi.

Well just go into input source selection screen for your source you want to listen to.

Then click the video source input you want, hdmi and keep clicking it till it cycles to the hdmi port you require. Then click back on to your audio source, in my case stereo 1. And bingo. You now have sound from stereo 1 and visuals from your choice of hdmi input. Most simple.

Dave,

Try doing the install NOT using the '.bat' file and install in this order:

#1) Matlab libs
#2) Java
#3) And finally the Dirac Live application.

You will need to install the ASIO drivers for your mic preamp (and don't forget the software security dongle) before running Dirac Live. It should be that simple!

Carl to the rescue! Looks like I had a badly formatted USB. Carl sent me the required software and it installed first time no problem.

I have also been speaking to Carl about connecting directly to the RS20i. Anyone else doing it this way? How did you get it to communicate with your laptop? Again through advise from Carl, I believe you need to find the IP address in the RS20i, but it would be great if someone could provide a step by step to how they did it?

Use any VNC software you'd like. The stuff that's included works fine ( in the Dirac pack ).

OK, started the Dirac setup and I get no sound from channels 9-16. 1-8 are working fine.

My input screen reads like this,

So I guessing that I need to have it read 1-16 for the HDMI input? If so , how do I go about doing that?

Also, in the Dirac live setup manual , it says to set set the fader to 7 on the home screen. But the problem is that the fader is different on the RS20i. So what is the equivalent setting of the fader 7 of the RS20i? 15?

You're problem sounds more like a routing issue: are the channels setup as 1-16, 1-8 copied (1-8, 1-8), or something else?

the Dirac software just needs a base-point volume for the measurement; when you get the pink noise preview you need the number displayed to be green; I want to say -12 or greater. It's just looking for somewhere in the 85 db range for the output of the loudspeakers.

Again- for lack of output on channels 9-12 (remember, Dirac can only do 12 channels ATM) make sure the channel routing is set to something like 1-16 under routing.

setup

routing

Hope this helps, Dave.

Dan you were right, I had the 4 subs routed to one channel.

About setting the levels. Should I be trying to aim to get this output from the manual. This would mean getting 91 db's from the sub in the proxy software before entering into Dirac setup?

It depends if you're trying to get Dirac to tune each sub independently or the 4 of them as a unit- if all 4 subs are one unit then yes, set them to around 90-91db C as a whole (all 4 running pink noise), otherwise do each one at 91, and see what you get after the Dirac has run. It will take some tweaking either way when you're done.

The short answer is to try at 91, and if it's too much, throttle back to 85- you'll see when you get the Dirac noise preview.

Such a low reading would imply that the mic is not picking up signal.

So when you hit the play button you get sound from the selected speaker? And this is loud?

Check under Asio driver that you have your usbpre selected and the correct input selected on input.

Second check that you have phantom power enabled, if required.

Another thing to try, to make sure your USB pre and mic are working properly, you can use them to do a REW sweep or even record sound in windows.

Check the gain on the USB pre.

Dave -- I had the same symptoms when I had the wrong ASIO driver for my USBPre V.1 -- Be sure to use the Ploytec driver as nothing else will work.

Also, according to Datasat tech support, the USBPre I needs a 32 bit computer, while the USBPre II requires a 64 bit computer...

Lots of little things to remember!

And, UPS came through and delivered my RS20i 4 days early!

I was able to hook the unit up and had it running and configured within 15 minutes -- Kudos to Carl Huff for the tip on how to clone the settings from the previous AP20 including the Dirac settings and port them over to the new box -- huge time saver! My family is actually talking to me again now that the theater is up and running again. No, they're not too spoiled.rolleyes.gif

Thanks!

Much appreciation to the folks at Datasat for getting one out to me sooner than originally thought - they have been really good to work with.

A little too early to tell performance differences, but my immediate impression is I can see the RS20 case is quite a bit nicer than the AP20 case. Thicker metal with a nicer finish, and the screen seems a bit nicer with the different color scheme. I am also definitely getting a placebo effect, as my brain is telling me that video from all sources looks better with the new one than it did with the AP20. Only problem is I am not running any video signals through the Datasat!

This one was literally just built, but does not have the mythical Dolby card in it... I was hoping it might have been in there, but no luck.

The constantly running fan is still irritating to me though - I just don't see why it needs to be running when in standby. Waste of electricity, but more importantly a source of dust for the innards -- Really should be addressed in a firmware update.

I am going to run DIRAC again later this week as I moved some furniture around since last time, so hopefully it will be smooth going. I'll report back then - Cross your fingers!
