If you listen at moderately loud levels (similar to a commercial theater) "action" would likely be best for action movies, while "movie" would likely be best for all other movies ie drama, thrillers etc... If you listen at moderately to low-ish levels then movie+action has the boost in dynamics for all movies. I believe that's what Chuck conveyed to me. Seems to make sense based on the posted curves for movie, action, and movie+action. I only listen at moderate levels.

I typically use the Movie target for 90% of my film viewing. I will try neutral on occasion if I feel the dialog is a bit soft.

I do however, take advantage of the DSP built into my Triad subs. There is one target preset built into my sub "cinema mode" which gives a 3db boost at 35hz and a sharp rolloff at 25hz which is to my liking. That combined with Movie voicing works pretty well.

@Grex. I generally watch Movie or Action, rarely Action+Movie, though I will give it a try more...I use Music voicing for Music, and Neutral for most TV

I'd love to do that.

I'd probably use Action for music, and Movie (or Neutral, if that means no Re-EQ) for movies, because I have the SSP set up to drop the bass (sub) by 6 dB for movies compared to music.

Adidino, when you say "neutral" do you mean Lyngdorf bypassed/off?

Thrang - I referred to it as well on my post.

Neutral is one of the voices which is flat target response. "Bypass" will bypass all the filters applied by RP.

Uploaded the McIntosh MX150 Voicing App program in the Known Issues and tips posts at the top of the thread.

Confirmed working on Windows 7, but I do not think it works under Windows 8 (according to addino's early testing)

Agreed - I'm really not sure if McIntosh markets this product as well as it deserves. Not only does the hardware and Room Perfect create a superb sound, the voicing editor provides incredible flexibility for fine tuning and personal preferences. It really should be touted much more prominently - when people think of amps, McIntosh is on the top of many lists, so they don't have to do too much. But when you think of high end processors, McIntosh rarely comes to mind, so there should be proactiveness around the product...unless its near EOL!

I spent some time getting this curve to overlay the Harman SDEC curve as close as I could. The red trace is from the SDEC plot. The green is the newly created curve. I cannot actually hear this curve, so I rely on others to see what it sounds like.

I cannot use a target curve, per se, in the SSP. But the way I tune my room, it tends to agree with Harman's empirically derived target. I'd say with the bass rise that would be my Music mode. Less bass with movies, which I have to achieve by reducing the sub gain 6 dB.

I also have the option of a similar highpass near 20 Hz, or running without the highpass. The latter is my normal mode. I only activate the highpass if movies are too bass-rambunctious. wink.gif

I'll experiment. Perhaps a modified version of this curve with a 4db cut on the low end would be a good target curve for movies.

Roger and addino - thanks for the target curve posts - I uploaded them tonight but too late to test them out...

My ability to edit custom curves is hampered by my laptop screen resolution and non-resizable edit window, so I haven't played much - but roger, what combination of settings gave you the 3db rise in the low frequency?

The boost comes from the 20 Hz high-pass filters' Q=1. Each gives 1.5 dB.

I don't think it is a problem, as whatever RoomPerfect creates in the end for the applied EQ filter will be calculated to avoid saturation. And if it were me, I'd probably apply a lot less rolloff < 20 Hz, or move them lower, but the exercise here was to clone the Harman curve.

And what is that Gain control for, right under the Name? I see no effect.

To keep things orderly, I swapped 2 of the 6 filters. Now top row 1,2,3 deal with bass, and bottom row 4,5,6 deal with the high frequencies. There's no change in the curve, but if you want to edit, this wold be a better place to start.

Watched about an hour of Dark Knight with this curve engaged. Very impressive... I really love this target curve. Need to test other films but works very well with DK.
