I have to say after being in the business for many years you get to experiance almost everything and not all stands up to the raving but with the Alcons that is not the case, I have to say for the first time I was so impressed with what I heard I now understand the hype and agree with Peter and Lasalles endorsement.

It was a pleasure meeting Tom Back, Tom youve done so many things right with your design, I was truly impressed, can I say blown away!!

Keep up the good work Tom.

We've had Alcons CRMS running in our showroom in Oslo for a number of years now, and we recently added a RS20i plus a number of extra channels (now 16 in total), plus superb calibration by mr. Walter Fortmuller himself and now the quality is simply breathtaking!! Glad to hear you enjoyed the system too, Tom is a true magician!!

Cool

The real magician at the show was that object processing renderer with dsp room acoustics enhancements.

That was me being object-tickled in the background. This will be the solution to microled front channel soundstaging.

We're doing Auro-3D, not Atmos, and the VOG is actually made out of four separate previous Atmos speakers as we would want to be able to enable Atmos too... So, full 13.1(3) Auro setup right now, but VOG currently consisting of 4 separate, duplicated channels... Sounds great in my opinion, and since room is quite narrow, about 15 feet, wides would not had made much sense anyhow...

Cool CEDIA 2017: Alcons ties a ribbon around refined immersive experience

"Last year we demonstrated the ‘ultimate’ sound that is possible with Alcons, showcasing an 11.1.8 ‘cost-no-issue’ system with 24 channels of processing, proving that our products can deliver very high SPL levels with undistorted studio monitor quality. This year we bring a similar set-up, but with different components, for a further refined experience", said Alcons co-founder Tom Back.

Taking place the 7th - 9th of September at the San Diego Convention Center, the CEDIA show is one of the premier showcases for the North American home technology industry. High Performance Audio Room 25C sees Alcons again working in cooperation with Barco Residential to present the Alcons Pro-Ribbon Immersive Experience, but on a larger scale than last year.

CEDIA 2017: Alcons ties a ribbon around refined immersive experience

Last year's showcase was voted the Best Audio Demo by specialist AV news outlet rAVe Publications.

This year’s facility presents a fully-fledged immersive pro-ribbon surround system, complemented by a Barco Loki HDR 4k projector with a wide ScreenAcoustics UltraWeave V6 AT screen. Processing will take place through a Trinnov 32 channel Altitude, fully driven digitally into the amplification.

This year's Immersive Experience showcases Alcons’ high-end, C-series home cinema systems and features the public debut of the CRMSC-SRHV, a brand new surround speaker in the CRMSC cinema reference monitor range.

"Delivering exceptional clarity and power from a compact, visually unobtrusive unit, the CRMSC-SRHV can be used in both horizontal and vertical arrangement, thanks to its rotatable waveguide with 90 x 60 degree dispersion", the vendor said.

"Last year we had a full room for every demonstration and it was clear that there is a real buzz about Alcons pro-ribbon technology in the residential market," says Alcons US national sales manager David Rahn. "The response was overwhelming and we had many ‘best of show’ comments from visitors. This year we are looking forward to making an even bigger and better impression together with our partners Barco, Trinnov and ScreenAcoustics."

Alcons is a Dutch manufacturer of professional speaker/amplification systems designed around a proprietary ribbon tweeter, the Pro Ribbon. That entered the Hometheater market around two years ago, from the large venue, commercial cinema and theater market as well as live re-enforcement. Offering undistorted audio at very high volume.

Alcons Pro Ribbon Immersive Experience takes place in High-Performance Room 25C (upper level).

Bumping sentiment before cedia 2015, it appears the hyped upcoming dynaudio is just a rehash of old studio work some of it recently removed form Disney for not handling ATMOS, nothing revolutionary there. In fact my Munro Acoustics Argent Design Dynaudio THX on steroids design was more advanced in 2009.

Which the Quested bested and then the Alcons bested. Why do companies keep on going back to what has proven to not work under atmos?

Someone said a Dynaudio that plays at 125. My ears perked, thinking they were coming out with a passive speaker that did that, that would be a good contender to alcons, and in jest I wondered if Alcons Dutch Ship would start taking in water...

Then it appears that the system under wraps is just the studio mastering monitors powered by datasat. Im sure it sounds great but it does not address the basic problem of using single esotars, and the studio speakers being four way lose the integral sound that the dynaudio passive enjoy from.

So fresh prediction for this cedia.

... seems the dutch ship is doing this at CEDIA instead.

The New MIGHTY GIANT CRMSC-SRHV

CRMSC-SRHV The CRMSC-SRHV reference pro-ribbon surround. The RBN202 pro-ribbon driver, the 6.5" special-suspension woofer and SIS™ cable compensation deliver the most dynamic, undistorted and crystal-clear surround sound experience possible.

Attaches with u bracket, or can be custom stand mounted like Uwes' q's. Improved vertical directivity, and the best weaponised NEW 6.5 woofer in the industry. I never met met a 6.5 woofer i could not blow at the mid top position, so this is welcome relief.

This is an awesome tool for channel sufficient microsystems. This is a whopping controlled 1-20 90 x60 window, the other ribbons and AMT'sare 60 by 30.

GAME OVER CD's & AMT's

The design this year is by walter.

The most flexible Immersive audio speaker of the present

I envision for my condominium systems to have a high level of flexibility in bass management for playback depending on time of day and day of the week, the dynamic range and slope adjustment for night modes from Dolby are great but i envision more. Shutting off different bass modules depending on the schedule.

Here are 2 building blocks to really take this flexibility to the limit by having three layers of bass management working in unison with this peaker, soon there will be 60 channels available on the trinnov, i envision the following built around these 2 guys.

1- This speaker
2- Directional base add on tower module array of three of these weaponised 6.5", these can also be used in ceiling to create the desired ceiling speaker (but this only applies to the width channel and surround columns, and for the 40,60,90,-45 tops. The other speakers in the room would not have a directional bass module because that is going to mess up things. For those other channels you have:
3- zoned bass modules combining multiple common area speakers into a zone.
4- you 4 LFE

size comparison of old vs new

For quadraphonic music and atmos the lr and wides plus the 110 degree rear i plan on adding additional headroom, then a dedicated in wall jl audio.

Sound and Vision said:
But I would drive these with the 8 channel sentinel end of 2018. One per 2 channels.

Known for manufacturing incredibly powerful and accurate subwoofers like the Fathom and Gotham, JL Audio introduced the smaller and more installation friendly Fathom IWS in-wall subwoofer system at CEDIA. This slimmed down model will allow theater owners and music lovers to enjoy deep and tight bass in a far more discreet manner.
Part of the magic of getting significant bass performance from this new design is a ported enclosure that mounts inside standard 16-inch on center stud openings. Yes, a ported in-wall subwoofer enclosure. This unique design vents through a slot located at the perimeter of the 8-inch speaker driver and enhances the sub’s efficiency and low-bass output. The enclosure measures 61.626-inches high and fits between standard 2x4 wall construction, and makes the sub’s effective displacement 27.5 cubic inches.

The new, thin-line, long-excursion woofer has been specially designed by JL Audio for optimum performance within the enclosure. Powering the sub is a rack mountable amplifier with up to 600-watts of power which is programmed especially for use with the new speaker. The amplifier features DSP and incorporates JL Audio’s powerful 18-band Digital Automatic Room Optimization (D.A.R.O.) along with high-pass crossover outputs. A single amplifier can drive up to two in-wall subs for more even bass response.

As expected from a JL sub, these produce deep, clean, and quick bass. The sub is rated to play down to 30 Hz, with a -3 dB at 28 Hz, and 10 dB at 24 Hz.

The single sub, IWS-SYS-108 will retail for $2000, and the dual sub IWS-SYS-208 for $3000. Both products are expected in the second quarter of 2017.

Thanks for posting preliminary pics Peter, but here are Walters actuals... It´s really HUGE this time, almost intimidating!! We´re on site, hopefully everything will be set quite soon! Using CRMS MKIIs across the entire front stage (including widths), and the surrounds will be different (but still 4" Pro-Ribbons). Basically the 4" ribbon will be featured all throughout the soundfield with the exception of the rear surr (and heights obviously...). I can also confirm the 6x ceiling CRMSc-SRHR 60x90, enabling immersive installs in low ceilings!!

Hopefully we´ll see a lot of you guys here come Thursday!!

Hi Donalk; no this time we are simply using black duvetune to cover the walls, mainly focussing on adding some diffusion around the listening position and get rid of as many points of rattle as possible... The TexLnt is quite nice too, but does tend to overdampen somewhat in the up- and mid frequencies... As always, setting up a demo in a show like this is quite challenging, but the size of the room this time certainly plays in our favour...

Cool

Man with those coupled with the 4 inch deep JL audio in wall subs i could create a wonderful system with directional bass. Awesome. Time to sell my systems.

Now the 8 channel amp next year and we are good to go. A 2 part number system. Love it.

It solves 2 things I asked Tom for last year, never saw them coming.

This and That.

Best Part those speakers will hit 130 and sound relaxed. So Excited!

I recognise that boot, says made in Austria.

Yes, this is the initial prototype, the final version will be designed differently with recessed connectors on the back so that it can easily be mounted as a surround or flush in the ceiling (albeit still tiltable).

My custom install company in Norway has a client waiting for these new wonderboys too, so hopefully sooner rather than later, and as soon as I know the ETA I will post it here...

Peter and I had a chance to listen to The Alcons large venue setup yesterday, semi-private showing as they tuned up for todays
Presentation. Amazing clear sound and imaging for an out door system. Very clean and non fatiguing for the loud volume they had it at.
