Isn't that the same specs as the G270? But 10k retail more expensive than the G?

Looks to be the same unit just tailored to high-end residential market.

I wonder if they'll release this in Japan. If so and they keep the same kind of premium pricing percentage for the US as for some of their other models a person might come out ahead flying back and forth to Japan to buy one and then for any warranty work, if necessary. :)

What is rec.2020 emulation?

Cool... But feeling rather deflated re price. Oh well I guess we all half expected that kind of pricing for Sony laser. My 1100 won't be going anywhere fast I guess!

How much larger is this than 1100ES? Is the new Sim2 Laser PJ on display at CEDIA? (the one that took them 3 years of R&D to develop it although still 1080p)...

rabident 10-15-2015 06:53 AM

Does the 5000 have lens options? I think I read the 270 had a 0.8x short throw lens option.

mporlier 10-15-2015 08:13 AM

That is a BlueLaser Phosphor light source. 5000L with the SXRD chip is a good mix. You should get killer contrast. THis should be a good product. As for REC 2020 emulation that's news. Laser Phosphor has issues exoending the color gammut. I am curious to see how they do this. Me beleif is only RGB Laser can acheive this nativly but I may be mistaken.

W.Mayer 10-15-2015 11:09 AM

Looks like the homecinema Version from the 270.

donaldk 10-15-2015 11:28 AM

CEDIA: Sony launches VW-5000, HT version of the G270 LASER-Phosphor projector

The 'emulation' we discussed when it was introduced with the G270. Sony announced it does full P3, adding that "by taking advantage of its professional calibration tools the VPL-VW5000ES allows the user to choose to emulate the BT.2020 color space, as well. This ensures compatibility with upcoming home video formats".

I.e it does not offer the full colourgamut, but its electronics allow for input of at least the 2020 container that can carry regular 709 gamut or P3, or the full 2020 xyz co-ordinates.

Marc is right that it should offer better on-off than the Barco 6K lumens DLP, or the 1200:1 Christie G series, single DLP LASER-Phosphor projectors.

Edit it does indeed, that's what we concluded from yesterdays'spec, image from Walter The Lion, and today's product picture provided by Sony. Wolfgang posted the video, while i was typing my post, he beat me to it, though the link above posted the image before that, lol.

It is about 3-4 times the VW-1100, 'slightly';-).

LJG 10-15-2015 11:34 AM

I just came back from demo at cedia, the projector is fantastic!!!! Love it

No color filter needed for P3 so 5000 lumen P3 high contrast.

Mark_H 10-15-2015 11:40 AM

Now we need real world details.

The piggy bank is looking very nervous....

I am definitely in on this! This projector is the first to check off just about every item on my list.

Plenty of brightness for a 14' wide or larger screen. 4K res. high contrast. great optics. reasonably sized. laser illumination. HDR. simulated Rec2020. with true DCI P3.

Considering all the features, I think its extremely reasonably priced.

donaldk 10-15-2015 12:20 PM

Will it allow for stacking, or did they eliminate the G270s blending/matching features?

Does anyone have a weight rating on this yet? Also will this be ceiling mountable like the 1100es or does it need a dedicated stack?

LJG 10-15-2015 02:42 PM

Donald

Fully stackable, I believe up to 4 for 20,000 lumen output, I know for sure at least 2.

LJG 10-15-2015 02:44 PM

Should be fully mountable

Watch this video: The 5000ES looks to based on the GTZ270 commercial model. It is 88 pounds.

I watched the video, thanks for that. So the 5000es is 88 lbs and that is double the weight of the 1100es. I presume this means it's not ceiling mountable?

uderman 10-15-2015 03:03 PM

Lara money, I am out. I was hoping for $30k

Uhm 88 Kilo projectors are ceiling mountable! people simply forgot they could;-).
http://bbs.flagnet.org/pix/mount4.jpg

LJG, so a full rebadge, there were a couple of people with a pre-order/name on the list for the G270, are they still going for the G270, or is there reason to go for a VW-5000? Overhere the VW projectors are distributed via Sony Professional anyway.

NickTheo 10-15-2015 03:19 PM

Hah! Well I was more asking if the projector intends to have mounting points on the bottom so that we CAN use a ceiling mount rather than just the feet I see in all the graphics for it and in the YouTube video that was posted.

If anyone is at CEDIA that is there to look at this beast I'd love to know what mounting options they say are available and also if they have any specific mount they recommend for it. Right now I'm using a Chief mount for my 1100es that's great but I'm not sure it's rated at 88lbs.

What's the GTZ-270's MSRP? I wonder which unit is cheaper? Looks to be the same lens as in the VPL-1100ES. I don't have the money to purchase the 5000ES, so I may have to stick with my 1100ES for a few more years unless something else is announced that catches my attention.

You need this new pj Seegs108! Find a way to afford it. I'll be one of a few buyers probably keen to purchase your 1100 if that helps.
