HDR - means 4K HDR

4K - means 4K SDR

4K / HDR - means available in 4K SDR and 4K HDR

Good information and spot on. I was confused too when I first started with Kscape. This thread is a wealth of information.

I downloaded Once Upon a Time in Hollywood this morning in 24 minutes and watched it this evening without incident. When I saw your post, though, I checked again and got the same error message you reported. Apparently the Kscape server is having problems this evening. Glad I did my download this morning.

HT setup: Sony 75XBR X940D UHD HDR TV; Kaleidescape Strato Movie Server 6 TB and Terra Server 24 TB; Yamaha RX-A3060 AV receiver; Sonamp 2-1 2channel 100W power amp; Crestron Control System; 2 Rythmik FV18 subwoofers, 6 Hsu HB-1 Bookshelf speakers, 1 Hsu HC-1 Center speaker, 4 Focal ICW8 in-ceiling Atmos speakers; Oppo UDP-203 4K HDR BD player. Anyone having issues with new K app?

I cannot see my movies or anything on ‘remote’ page. The screen on that page is black and prompts me to wake up player by touching screen. I do this but no player shows.

I have the right IP address for the k server. Even tried IP address for my player.. it’s on the same wifi network. Even when K is powered on I see nothing on the app. . Does The player have to be running (active hdmi output to projector) to see this? Thanks.

Goodbye to a great audio and video genius and writer... JOHN GANNON. I enjoyed your friendship, wit and a nice long run we took around Indianapolis at CEDIA years back... and for buying my Runco 980 Ultra years back... you saved my ass! Rest in peace.

Be sure to finish your download when you can. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is wonderful, Tarantino at the top of his game.

No issues with mine(iOS). Have you rebooted your K system?

Assume the issue he is having is with the main iOS app and not the second screen (iPad)? The main/new app doesn’t show your movies, only what is playing. Movies I believe have to generally be looked at from your display. SJ

I’m out of town but will be back to try Tuesday. I rebooted the K player but not the Terra server. I tried the IP address of the player and server but still no luck. The devices have static IP addresses. iOS device (iphone) is dhcp on the network.

I’m able to locate each piece via it’s IP address on my computer. Strange.

I haven’t redone loaded the app. I’ll try that.

Stay tuned... and thanks for the suggestions.

Some decent pricing on titles that I wanted to double dip but couldn't justify pricing.

the deals are pretty nice, but what i really want is a promotion where they go back to their $1.99 or whatever it was D2D offering for a limited time. I think the goal of everyone in here is to go 100% digital, but with a $5.99 price to do so, when im basically paying somewhere in the $6-$15 range for a disc usually, makes it hard to justify. Until we get MA (fingers crossed), i wish they would throw us a bone and offer a cheaper D2D option. Otherwise i'm going to continue to keep buying like 30 blu-rays like i did today, all for around $6-$8 and load up my disc vault.

JTR Speakers, RSL Atmos, Kaleidescape, Lumagen Radiance Pro, Marantz Processor, Emotiva Amps, JVC RS540

Guys, is it common for Magnolia to sell a Strato S 6TB for price of the older Strato 6TB model?

Just happened to me today.... my dealer was going to take a few days to get it and I needed one asap for calibration. Stopped at the local Magnolia just this morning to check if they had a unit in stock....they had 1 strato S 6TB priced as a Strato 6TB....bought it immediately.

Was just wondering if this is normal for Magnolia....

They technically do not stock them. They had a customer that ordered one and then changed his mind for the 12TB. But 6TB was already shipped to store....so they had this one sitting there for 3 months...

I'll PM you the price....dont think we are allowed to post prices here...

Thanks. That is a unique story and maybe why your store wanted to let it go, vs sit on it. Good deal!

Has anyone done an A/B blinded comparison between Kaleidescape and Apple TV 4K for HDR content ?

I have been skeptical about compression artifact in streaming media for the longest time , but my understanding is Apple and other premium content providers have basically made 4k material identical to the Blu Ray source for the human eye. If this isn’t the case, please post pixel peeping screen shots showing the difference !!

My integrator has basically said Kaleidescape is dead.

I had (emphasize HAD) an integrator/dealer who big time bad mouthed Kaleidescape last year. However, I determined that this was a pattern for this dealer, badmouthing anything he thought I could be buying from a different dealer. And when this dealer bad mouthed, it was not just about the product, but the stuff he would say about the company and its management as well! And eventually I realized this dealer was just full of BS! And this dealer still lists Kaleidescape as a brand that he carries on his website. I no longer have any relationship with that dealer. Kaleidescape isn't dead but very alive. And a dealer trying to claim that compressed streaming media including Apple is a good videowise looking as Kaleidescape noncompressed or the 4k disc itself, at least with quality projectors and big screens, is feeding a bunch of pig-crap! Get a new dealer/integrator who knows what he/she is doing and talking about in a positive manner! I am very happy with my Kaleidescape and my Kaleidescape dealer who has sold me my Sony VW5000 projector and other stuff who is a very positive person without unnecessary put down of other persons or products.

On my 14' wide screen, I have compared Kaleidescape and also 4k discs, to streamed movies on my Apple TV 4k. The positive difference between KScape or disc vs Apple TV 4k was quite obvious to me. Now Apple TV 4k movies streamed still can look nice - but on the whole Kaleidescape/4k disc simply looks appreciably better comparing apples to oranges.

I also tried a few movies a while back and you just couldn’t get the color depth and overall richness of the picture. Just seems more solid on K or disc. But, the Apple versions are pretty good. They also can change depending on internet connection, etc. Now, the sound is a little more obvious in a good system. SJ

If this isn’t the case, please post pixel peeping screen shots showing the difference !!

My integrator has basically said Kaleidescape is dead.
I had actually recommended to a friend to be careful jumping in with both feet with Kaleidescape. I have already, so I can't look back. The quality is there to be sure but there are things we all know that point toward issues. Lack of immersive audio option on many UHD titles, some studios not on board, their temporary, ostensibly complete, shutdown without even hinting to their dealers. Their lack of updating recognition of titles added to their premiere system(at one point I had eighty movies that the system didn't recognize that I had to go to IMDB for the information and I had to add my own cover art if I wanted any). To their credit, they have since cleaned this up completely but it was a year.

I personally love Kaleidescape and use it a ton and have had a good experience, simultaneously,I can see why an integrator might be really cautious in recommending it. I know a dealer who was on his way to install a complete system,(had it in his trunk) and I was the one who told him that Kaleidescape had closed down!
