The new AVPro UNC uncompressed fiber unit might be the way to go. It’s pricey but if you add up all the cables I’ve bought it may save money in the long run. I’m guessing you have the AC-EX-444 or the previous AVPro fiber kit that did do some compression. I don’t believe the UNC uncompressed kit was available yet then. I think it’s only been out a month or two. When it syncs...the 5000 is one hell of a projector so if this solves that then Sony should include them with the projector.

I had yesterday another occurrence of the PJ just switching off and I managed to see that both LEDs were red, no blinking, before it switched to green.
Nothing else happend and when switching on again it works then.
Temperature is at 28/82, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Ideas?

For those of us with the Apple 4k TV:

With my Sony VW5000ES projector & Lumagen Radiance Pro: I like to watch Star Trek Discovery on CBS All Access, which here in US is only broadcast in 1080i, having my Apple 4k TV set at 1080p. I also prefer 1080p output for other HD programming on my Apple 4k TV. But whenever I switch to or from 1080p or 4k for video, I get issues with the video picture getting way too big or where the remote doesn't work except for speech and I have to use speech to go into Settings and turn off the voice accessibility which I never turned on!

However, Apple recommends and sells on their website (and Amazon) the following 2M 8k HDMI cable for their Apple 4k TV:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have gone in and switched to every video resolution possible and not had one issue. So you may want to try this cable!

Mani and I, both with Radiance Pros and Sony VW5000ES projectors, got into a discussion that sometime back, we recall that someone here at AVS Forum
mentioned that per Sony engineers, the projector won’t display accurate 2020 color space unless it sees HDR2020 input. Both of our setups were done with the Radiance Pro doing the HDR tone mapping and outputting SDR2020 to our projectors, and if my memory is any good I think I was then told then the calibrator was able to expand the color of SDR2020 to a wider range. Is this the best way to tone map HDR in our setup, or is there a better way? Our video looks awful darn good already! Thanks.

that's what I recall that someone talked to Sony engineers and was told that Sony5000 needs to see the HDR flag from incoming signal to properly display Rec2020 colorspace.
Steve ...On different note , even if picture looks darn good , doesn't mean that we can't throw some extra money to make it look better .. , or believe or feel that it looks better

New Radiance Pro Microcode and the VW5000

Has anyone been able to get the 5000 to display a raster loading the new microcode after the 011119 update? I will get audio from output 1 of the Pro but no picture on the 5000 from either 2 0r 4. A reboot to the old code sets everything to normal. Am I missing some specific way of performing the change?

John

I am considering buying a 5000. Is the 5000 still the best in this price range?

I thought the jvc units at $15,000 price point would be excellent but I read too many issues with them, including ghosting.

I had the wolf dcx 1000i in the past, which had list of $80,000. Last year, I bought an Epson 4000 which for $1500, was superior to the wolf. Such is the advancement of technology. I am actually very happy with the Epson but am considering the 5000 because of a good deal.
I use my projector 40% of the time as computer monitor. 😊.
I don't want to deal with lumagen etc. Just a plain Jane set up for dish, Amazon fire etc 😊.
I am am seeking comments and suggestions. Considering that the 5000 is already 2 or 3 years old, I can easily wait another year if there's next Gen comi9.
Thank you

I thought it was “thrang” that said this. Can’t remember the details. But it also came up in the Lumagen thread and I think it was Kris Deering responded after he evaluate when he got a chance on a VW5000 with a Lumagen Pro and recommended going with the SDR2020 mapping in the Pro.

I hope I am remembering this correctly!

I have played with the old and new microcode. At times I have had the new microcode working for a bit but then I change source and too often blanks
out. I'm done with the new microcode, it sucks with my 5000. I am using the old microcode forever and happy doing so.

welcome to the Brighter side

I was used to Sim2 Lumis HOSt for years. Getting used to non DLP image was initially an issue . But once you watch a good 4K transfer on Sony , there is no going back. Transformers, Last Knight on Kscape is a good start .

I’ve seen this projector at Arts. Single and stack. I’m amazed every time. I’ve see. It at Rob Hahn’s on a 19’ screen and no anamorphic lens. I’m super excited. Should be up in running in a week. The theater is maybe 2 weeks out. 21 months no theater. The subwoofer response should be incredible. I cannot wait!

Now have to look at a Strato....

Not sure but what’s the blu day player of choice these days? I do have an anamorphic lens.

Here’s my status - screen, projector and M2s in the garage...

Hi Bland

I have been into Kscape environment for some time and have never regretted it. Video quality is bar none. I have Cox Gigabit ethernet connection. , so My download speed on terra server is 15-20 min for a 4k movie.,(600 Mbps on average ) My only recommendation regarding Kscape is , that if you are going to go that route , get a terra server and a strato C player. That way you have much higher download speed and you can add C players in other rooms and have 4K playback handy.

That’s what I have been waiting for since last year . From my readings last year , the premium is more for audio , otherwise not that different than its cheaper version video wise . Let us know how it compares to Oppo

Just to clarify the sequence...

When the 5000 randomly shuts down; is that when you see the red/green led pattern you described or is that the pattern when you restart the projector?

Is the restart you describe a soft (power on) or a hard (pulling the AC input)?

It ran for a few hours already when I noticed the picture disappeared so I turned quickly to the PJ and saw those two red lights, then it switched off to green.
After that switching it on again worked fine then.

Kind of as if switching it of manually, but then there wouldn't be two red lights.

That's where I'm still confused. My 5000's on color is green and the off color red turning immediately to flashing green on power on and steady green when the power on sequence is complete. Are the EU's projectors different? Also, have you performed a hard reset (Ac plug out and back in after a minute or so). Are you sending an HDMI signal to the PJ from a new source? I assuming you do not lose audio at the same time.

John

I’m going to be using the new Paladin. I do not have a Lumagen, PJ does the stretch?

The best player for projector owners by a wide margin. However, very similar to the 820, but with much higher end build quality. It also has some additional settings that the 820 does not have re HDR projector settings. Really enjoying mine.

Are most here using Lumagens with the Sony? I’m not excited about adding one if I can get most of the performance within the Sony and a player like the 9000. Thanks

The Radiance Pro is great particularly if you have multiple sources, not just 4k blu ray, and need HDR tone mapping. If you just need 4k blu ray, sounds like the new Panasonic 4k player is a less expensive and good way to go though. (Not that you ever listen to me anyway!)

Maybe here I’ll listen... I can always add it if I feel I see issues.

My sources will be Xfinity, Blu Ray, Strato. So not many. And an anamorphic lens.

Good to know. Thanks.

Goodbye to a great audio and video genius and writer... JOHN GANNON. I enjoyed your friendship, wit and a nice long run we took around Indianapolis at CEDIA years back... and for buying my Runco 980 Ultra years back... you saved my ass! Rest in peace.

The madVR Envy is coming. Could be a very formidable video processor.
