The move to 8K or 16K will not excite me. I have some 1080P stuff that looks as good as much of my 4K stuff (and sometimes better). My move to this projector was all about HDR. And the only reason I purchased the Lumagen and Panamorph Paladin. And unless someone invents HDR PLUS (whatever the heck that might be) that is 10 times as good as what I already have, I'm done in the display department.

And yes, I know I have made similar claims before about upgrades in general. But this time, I am so sure of it, I put it in writing to my accountability partner [my bride]. And in fact, did the same on my surround processor and amps and speakers. 99% of my HT spending is on source material.

Speaking if which, any recommendations for worthwhile upgrades from BluRay to HDR on older movies?
I read on Twitter that industry insiders have said there will be no 8K optical disc format. Period. Good luck streaming that bandwidth. I just plan on buying more good and great movies on 4K Blu-ray.

Interesting but not surprising - particularity as streaming becomes the dominant method of viewing movies.

Any recent HDR purchases of previously owned 1080P stuff that you would recommend?

I'm watching " Shaun of the Dead " on 4K tonight ( I bought the " Cornetto Trilogy on 4K - love " Hot Fuzz " too ) - I'll report back tomorrow. I'm seriously behind on watching movies - especially favorites re-bought on 4K. Just got the Daniel Craig Bond collection. When it comes to movies, I have a permanent backlog of stuff to watch !

Absolutely...... I am still awed on occasions as to what MadVR can do with the good old 1080P Disc..... I have had friends comment at times on just how good the "4K" content looks, only to be "Red Faced" when i inform them its 1080P...

" Midsommar " is a new Blu-ray that looks super sharp - if you happen to like horror movies !

Thanks Craig.

Something else to check out.....the series "Outlander" 16:9 ....even if its not your "cup of tea" do yourself a big favour and check it out just to see how good 1080P Bluray can look!! .........Its "Stunning"

Id happily put it up against 90%+ of "True 4K " content.....

I have it on my NAS currently and haven't watched it yet. So I'll take that as a note to self to make sure I view via the 4500 !

Yeah I'd read quite a bit about it and seen the trailer. Looks like a real trippy piece and quite creepy!

The drug scenes are very realistic - from what I've been told and what I can remember from high school !

Say Craig,

I'm thinking/wondering if a person did purchase a (Back-Up) B-Stock would it have the JVC Full-Warranty ???
Next thing would that Warranty (Start) as soon as the (Official-Purchase) took place ???

My screen would not be perforated. I have not picked the screen yet. It can be of any gain. That room is like controlled and totally dark at night which is when we watch movies. A tiny bit of Ambientlight during the day. It is not a bat cave. Some light reflections from walls which are not all black. 29 ft throw distance. No hush box.

If 29' is lens to screen, I'd probably say ( if it were me ) maybe 145" - 150" ( max ) diagonal, and a StudioTek 130 for sure ( or other 1.3 gain screen ). And I'd sit around 10' - 12' away ! YMMV.

Craig

so you are saying if i move my projector (RS4500) back outside my theater room in lieu of a hush box - roughly 23'8" lens to screen i should not see a significant drop in brightness from approx 16' -10" from where it is now, i know a complete calibration might be in order from the move -

Screen now is 2,40:1 150" diagonal SI screen innovations Zero Edge Pro medium border Pure white 1.3 gain - Plenty of brightness from where it sits now.
Chad B actually had to cut the SDR back a little bit when he did the calibration. Yes i am running high laser in HDR - Medium in SDR (next to never run in SDR- unless there is that one Blu Ray movie that has not been released in 4K yet.

You will see some drop in brightness, but how much and whether it's still bright enough for you, hard to say. What I do know is if your throw distance is 29', you won't be able to go much smaller than 140" diagonal ! Since you have plenty of brightness now, creating a separate " projector room " like I did might work great in your case ! It's a lot easier than building a hush box in many ways.
