My observation at cedia was actually the complete opposite. The Sony demo had the 5000 ES on a 16 foot by 9 foot screen, but it did not look as good as the JVC to my eyes. I did, however, also see the 5000 during the wisdom audio demonstration, which was on a smaller screen compared to the 16 foot by 9-foot screens exhibited by Sony and JVC. The Sony actually looked much better during the wisdom audio demo on the smaller screen, but that might have had something to do with the fact that Ken Whitcomb had calibrated the projector for the wisdom Demo.

My bias before seeing these demonstrations was that I like Sony, so I was actually surprised to see that I preferred JVC during the demos

The RS600 throws an incredible image, especially with 4K content, considering the price. I use the RS600 on a much smaller screen than the 5000ES, but I agree that it would be very hard for most people to tell the difference between true 4K and Eshift 4K with real content.

The biggest limitation of the RS600 is its light output.

I have pre-ordered the RS4500, to compare to the 5000ES and the RS600, but I'm having second thought, based on the feedback so far.

I was also told today that Sony will have their 1100ES replacement, which will be a 4K Laser with 2500 lumens at $25k. It will be built using the new 4K Laser engine of their Ultra short throw VPL-VZ1000ES.

I was wondering how large your screen was again? Seems you have had plenty of units to compare the RS4500, and in a real home theater environment.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I look forward to hearing more.
The 5000 is starting to be quite long while ago from when I saw it / got hands on with it. It was definitely still an image that really impressed me, especially noting the screen viewed on was very close to my owns size of 150" 2:35 or approx 11.5" wide. The rock solid, ultra sharp picture was something very impressive with the 5000. I would like to see it with the latest firmware to see HDR again as it wasn't working right when I viewed it. The RS600 can't be faulted at the price really. In a dedicated environment it lights up my screen with no issue - easily kept up with the 1100. The new 1100 replacement sounds very interesting as well, particularly if you don't need reams of brightness. I may check with my local Sony projector contact on this upcoming unit and see if there's any further info yet.

I'm about to write to the JVC supplier to ask them to pass on my thoughts on the 4500, particularly those concerns as mentioned previously to see what feedback JVC might give back.

They wouldn't be able to build them fast enough for all the people that would scoop them up. I'd be first in line, "Here Sony, Take my money and call me when you ship!!"
Just don't understand there thought process on this.

The optics on that ultra short throw projector must be really fantastic to shoot a picture up against a wall screen from a foot or less back and correct it to look right.
Well, will just have to find sometime to occupy my time, perhaps:

Bobcat,

I totally agree! It makes no sense to me why they put a priority on bringing out a second generation short throw, slashing the price from $50K to $25K, while increasing brightness from 2000 to 2500 lumens.

Seems to me this laser engine in a standard front projection setup would be 100 times more popular.

That short-throw unit is pretty darn incredible though!

Sony should have released the front projector first.
Guess I'll just have to wait until the 1200es is released next year.
Meanwhile I found something to occupy my time!

I have mentioned this before, but as a reminder, when the RS4500 is in HDR mode, (no filter in place) you are not getting Rec709 color. You are getting how ever wide the color space is without the filter. Someone should be able to measure what you are getting with the RS4500. It will be wider than Rec709.

Well, although I had planned on picking up one of the 4500's, I decided to wait for a while to see if JVC fixes some of the issues with an updated unit.
If the fan noise wasn't so high after it running for a while, would have bought one.
Just didn't want to take the chance as it is quite an investment to have and not be 100% happy with. Then there is the hassle of selling it at a loss and replace it with someone other brand projector.
Yes, I could have gotten one of the latest JVC E-shift units, but wanted to stick with a true 4k projector, so the 675es is on the way.
Since the new Sony projector has a planned release of 1/2018, will see what happens between now and then.
In the meanwhile, the 675es will replace the 1100es to hold me over, and will sell the 675es when I pick up the new Sony or an updated JVC.

Meantime...

Yup, it is, and I won't need the HD Fury to fake it into believing it's seeing the latest format of the 4K signal.

Per the Sony rep that ccool96 talked to witch gave him the release date and price, wonder if JVC will drop their price to 25k to match Sony?
