Do you have the new color wheel for the Barco? It very well might be the photo, but looks like the blues/purples are somewhat amplified. My Barco had a similar picture before I got the new color wheel (and had it calibrated). Extremely happy with picture now. Just wanted to make sure you got the new color wheel.

Yes I have the DCI color wheel and the pic not reflect the actual what i see

I just update and calibrate the projector itself and with the lumagen and with the intensity mapping every thing look stunning in HDR and the cinemascope V that’s the most I loved with barco since I have the Orion

Pls don’t go with the pic I am soo soo bad photographer

And happy new year

I believe there is an update for HDR playback. When @appelz was at my place installing my Trinnov and doing calibration work, he mentioned it. He might be able to speak to it. I haven’t updated yet bc will require recalibration or projector - which Ken Whitcomb will do when he comes back.

I’m also kicking around idea of moving from my Balder CinemaScope to Sony 5000 with some theater upgrades I’m doing- larger screen than my current 160”wide and going from 1.3 to 1.0 gain. I know dealer with floor model and considering. It’s still a big $ difference and probably squeezing small incremental benefit. I mean, the kids don’t really need to go to college, right?

Yeah I think incremental difference won’t be huge. But with my planned upgrades, I’ll be “done” (for now) on everything else. For me, it’s just another step in this addiction!

And if anyone is thinking of a Barco Balder PM me.

Barco not yet come out with new Firmware , the FW 1.6.35 still advance than any others Concerning your BALDER CS that replace colour wheel at site ,if you need the function " Auto white point dimming " you have to do some update software but might be not necessary as you use calibrator . Better talk to your Barco dealer .

Ok, so this thread was started in 2017. Its 2019 and these projectors are still being updated, which to me seems awesome.

Are they actually improving images with these updates?

Also it seems like a benefits of a Barco vs something like a Lk970 or Z1 or similarly priced Sony are:

Brightness - The Medea, Balder and Thor all throwing over 4k lumens
Cinemascope - No needed lens for a scope aspect ratio screen
Image Processing - seems like Barco is updating the tonemapping of these if I am understanding correctly, making something like a HTPC or Lumagem unnecessary?

Would love to see some updated comparisons since it seems the performance of these maybe be changing since this thread was initially created?

Interesting timing on your post. I just had @D6500Ken at my house today updating the latest firmware on my Barco Balder and recalibrating. Ken just did the calibration at CEDIA hq on the Barco Thor - and he was using some of the tricks he learned. I haven’t had a chance to spend a lot of time with it. Will report back.

Can you ask Ken about whether or not the Barco balder would need a Lumagen Pro for dynamic tone mapping or does the Barco do the same, internally?
Thanks
