My Dream Theater - Dream Team

Many of you here on the forum have contributed your knowledge, time, advice and personal experiences to help provide the building blocks for me to plan my "dream theater".  For that I am so appreciative! I am aware that there are many, many extremely qualified professionals here on the forum, some equal or possibly better, in their respective fields that would enhance my room, but for this build, I have selected a group that I feel melds well together for this team build. Here is the Team:

Acoustical Design and Engineering, Nyal Melor, Acoustic Frontiers, Inc.

Acoustical Tuning, Acoustical hardware consultation, Speaker design, placement locations, elevations, angles etc., All 3D audio consulting, Curt Hoyt. CA Hoyt Consulting.

Custom Audio Integration, Design, Installation, Consulting, and Coordinating, Chris Cooley, X-Treme AV, Inc.

Design Elements will be engineered and fabricated by Rayva.

And none other than Theo Kalomirakis, world renowned theater designer, coming on board to be the design liaison between all team members. Theo will design the project with all team members, to put it in his words "make sure the room looks the best it can, without the design impacting negatively the technology and engineering".

I think this will be a very interesting Theater build. Design work is in the final tweaking stage, equipment selection is nearly finalized.

Details to follow shortly.

Preliminary Equipment List

JBL SDP75 32 to replace Trinnov Altitude 32/16. Trinnov will be available for sale.
JBL M2's (3)
JBL 705i's (8) for ceiling aimed and pointed at MLP
JBL SCL4 (8) for bed channel aimed and pointed at MPL
Seaton F18 slaves (6)/ 1 SS2-8000
Amps - undecided but will be analog not DSP
Stewart 100 microperfed screen to replace 100 solid screen, and also Stewart AT fabric masking to replace Stewart solid masking material. Stewart 2.01 four way masking system to remain.
Seating undecided between Cineak Strato plus and Acoustic Smart Transformer series
Sony 5000ES remains
Lumagen Radiance Pro remains
Oppo 203 remains
Panasonic UB900 remains
Crestron control remains
Extron Matrix switcher for LED's remain
LED's (4) hidden and automated remain

Well known and well-respected names Lon, I am sure it will be great.

Theo Kalomirakis, that's a name I haven't heard on this forum in a long time. Does this mean you are going for his ornate style, or does he do other styles as well?

I am doing a more contemporary less ornate style.

Congrats!

Tell us your equipment list and are you building a new house or renovating your current room?

Goodbye to a great audio and video genius and writer... JOHN GANNON. I enjoyed your friendship, wit and a nice long run we took around Indianapolis at CEDIA years back... and for buying my Runco 980 Ultra years back... you saved my ass! Rest in peace.

Wow, congrats! I can’t wait to see what this team can come up. Theo’s designs are a kind of gold standard, so it’s great you have his “eye” on your project.

Please keep us posted!

Thanks,

Most exciting! Will you be designing for stacked 5000ES projectors?

Hi Jeff:

This is a gut renovation and expansion of my existing media room. Equipment needs to be finalized, but will include JBL synthesis M2's, most likely SCL's for in wall and cieling, Trinnov Processing, Sony 5000ES, Stewart Jumbo AT 2 way masking. Expanded room dimensions approximately 18' x 25'.

Congrats on what sounds like an awesome project. Those M2s are finding their way into a lot of high end rooms . What speakers are you replacing?

Does Theo typically do the acoustic design for his projects or just the "cosmetics"?

Looking forward to reading about your project's progress, and hopefully seeing some pics!

By the time you are ready who knows what new projectors will be out!

Maybe as you should simply set up for stacked projectors just in case?

I am replacing Aerials, Model 9's, CC5's, Model 6's, Model 5's. SW12's and Thiel Power points and power planes. New setup will be JBL Synthesis with Seaton subs, 11.1.8.

This is not your typical Theo project, but I'll let him comment further on his usual projects. I am very happy he agreed to join the team as the room was engineered first with Nyal and Curt without regard to cosmetics just performance, so I presented quite a large challenge for Theo.

The engineering of the room is now evolving slightly to make it more manageable from the cosmetic side.

Curious about this as well.

Current projector - JVC RS25 and Marantz VP15S1
Future projector - pre-ordered new JVC from AVScience

Yea. Since you are majorly totally redoing the theater, may as well set it up for stacked projectors, even though you may never need it.
The cost is build out is so minimal anyway! Will your new screen be the same width, 14' wide, or will you be able to go bigger?

Great gear, before and after, lol.

Hopefully getting everyone to work together is easier than the typical "herding cats" process with contractors and trades. These guys are all pros so I imagine they are used to working with others. Look forward to hearing about the build in detail.

Which / how many Seatons? new 18" models?

As mentioned above, your room dimensions are nearly identical to mine.

I am hoping to start construction next week. Build the extension shell, then gut the inside down to sheet rock and plywood flooring. I am hoping to be ready for tuning September. Probably overly optimistic at this point.

I have almost that except my amps are in two of the Masters plus six Slaves for a total of eight. My dimensions are similar to yours (a tad smaller) so you will have plenty of the clean, tight LFE that make the HT experience so much fun !!

Congrats on your new project. Given who is working on it with you and the recommended components, it will be stellar.
