Have they done anything about the sequential contrast ? This has been the weakness and unfortunately a pretty glaring one. Any numbers ?

He owns a Balder CINEMASCOPE Barco with its new color wheel that should allow P3/DCI color space.

Barco definitely makes some quality units. I would imagine the other aspects of the unit are top notch. It is just disappointing that the constraints on sequential contrast are there.

This may draw him out from hiding. I think this video did more to confuse than educate.

Some might remember a couple of years ago at Cedia, a Barco rep was telling Mark, Mike, Craig and I about needing only 80 to 1 cr based on supposedly normal rooms. I was texting Darin that there was a situation at the Barco booth that needed his presence.

That was also the year that Barco introduced their half million dollar pj with IIRC 30k lumens. Despite the brightness, the lack of contrast was glaringly obvious. The picture looked washed out. The Barco presenter threw Stewart under the bus by saying if they would have provided them with a grey screen then the picture would have been a lot better. Darin had his work cut out for him.

Why would you say that? The Sony 5000 puts out the same amount of lumens as your Barco.

Yeah and Darin didn't even finish the demo. He walked out saying he thought he time traveled back to 2005.

I get why some people love brightness and the look of DLP. I am kind of baffled though by someone spending this much on a pj and living with such low contrast.

I'm baffled at how SIM2 could get 6500:1 native out of a Lumis Host back in 2009, and Jeff Meier measured 15,000:1 with the dynamic iris after calibration, and DLP contrast has gone backwards since then.
